This, the Savage has is coming out for a variety of reasons but one of the big ones is as bait. They're throwing it out there for the non believers to be converted to buy at least one figure and perhaps continue to build a mattel collection even if they didnt initially intend to. I can see how the news would bother the jakks only people though, some of the biggest blanks in their classic collection cant be filled by a figure in the same style. to each there own but if that was there plan it didnt work out to well with me... like with steamboat... they got me to buy that only because jakks didnt make it... i took the head and extras the body i couldnt pay somebody to take off my hands... Well the thing is, they still got people (like you) to purchase even if youre just using the heads and accessories. Had they not put out a steamboat or savage, people much like yourself may have overlooked them and not given the figures a chance. So, their plan worked to some degree even if they cant persuade you to continue buying more. But at the end of the day, everyone can like one or both companies as they wish.

I'm glad to hear Macho signed. I have tons of Jakks modern and legends, but I'm not biased against Mattell. In fact, if you want to collect newer guys sooner or later you'll need to jump to Mattell.
The larger dillemma is with my legends - because the Mattell and Jakks scales are different do you re-buy everyone you have in the new line? That doesn't make sense to me.
The advantage Mattel legends has is that they are elite and more articulated for a more dynamic pose (assuming you're a collector and simply display). But in other ways I like the Jakks figures better than the Mattell with all the joints.
But to me, the Murphy's Law of timing is what kills it for me. For the foreseeable future there willbe no Hogan or Flair - so I'm not going to re-buy new legends and miss the two greatest.
I have a few Jakks Macho Customs with the Ada Chan head and they look perfectly fine. I'm curious if the different scale was done to force people to choose and I'm sure some re-buy all the old figs.
For now I stick with Legends in the Jakks scale and pick up Matell modern guys and call it a day. Frankly, I have virtually every legend I want and the only hole was Macho that the customs fill nicely. Unfortunately I do not think Jakks will sign him as well - I'm sure Mattell is exclusive.
. .. of course, in wrestling never say never and in two years time Hogan and Flair are back with WWE and I'm contemplating raiding ebay for all these Mattell legend figures, lol.
. . .my advice is to enjoy the collection you have.I also do not think Macho signed jsut b/c Mattell offered a ton more money - I think WWE lifted their Macho Man ban since they finally released that DVD.

This is not a knock on pro-Jakks people or whatever, as I have built a 13 year wrestling figure collection on their product, but after seeing the TNA/Legends figures...I gave up. Jakks is so lazy with their production values and attention to details. I hate DA, and will only give my TNA favorites in DI one extra glance. I am intrigued by what could come of the RI figures, but what we've seen wasn't too baiting. I've been very picky with Mattel, just because I don't wanna completely start over, but they've definitely won me over...long before Macho was announced.

Perhaps, but also remember, there was no way Mattel would've been able to have the figures in scale with Jakks -- the Jakks figures aren't even in scale with each other. Bigger guys like Kane are pretty close to Jakks size, just more realistically proportioned. But Mattel decided to scale the wrestlers with each other, which meant a lot of them would have to be out of scale with Jakks figures. Plus it being a new line, they had to come with their own sizes. If the figures looked too similar to Jakks, they'd have been blasted as rip-offs.

I'm totally fine with both Jakks and Mattel releasing wrestling figures. It doesn't bother me since I collect both lines. I don't have any plans to giving up one line so I can start with a new line. Both lines can co-exist. Granted Mattel is doing an excellent job on their Legends line, with the signing of the Von Erichs, Savage, etc.

I was a Jakks guy all the way, but have recently bought up a bunch of Mattel figures as well. I still have high hopes for Jakks Classic line, but I am more than a little frustrated that they haven't put out more info about it or even gotten the first line up in stores. Mattel is kicking thier a#@ right now. Steamboat, Savage & the Von Erichs! Jakks needs to get moving and fast. Supposedly they are going to put out Japanese and NWA figures...well, Zbysko, Masked Superstar, Blackjack Mulligan, Inoki & Muta would be a good place to start!!!!

I collect both companies products. I look at the bright side and think of how exciting it is to have 2 strong collections going and I have things to look forward to from both in the coming months. The RA TNA line, the Legends line, and the NJPW deal are all great things that keep Jakks in the game IMO. If the main TNA line were not DA I would have NOTHING to complain about with Jakks. But I will admit after SDCC,Mattel has pulled ahead with me. I considered both to be equal and had no real preference ,but man Mattel knocked it out of the park a couple days ago. I really hope Jakks can counter with images of equally exciting products that ties the score again with mattel. And I think they can quite frankly. At the end of the day though,I buy both. It doesn't matter if it says Jakks or Mattel. It just matters that I like it enough to part with my money. And Macho Man and The Von Erichs have already told my wallet what to expect there. And Sting and Jeff Jarrett from the LOTR line have also.

No, not really. There are zero names that Mattel announced that I need/want in my collection. There are two "legend figures" I want which are Jeff Jarrett and Owen Hart. Jarrett's getting them and there's a good chance Jakks can make an Owen Hart. There's not a chance in the world Martha signs the contract, and if she does, there isn't a chance it'll be with Jakks. Actually that last part couldnt be any more incorrect. IF by chance Martha did sign over Owen rights it would be with Jakks and their line. No way will she ever do business with WWE or Mattel. That is obvious with her recent lawsuit.

Tragically, you're right. If Mattel got a hold of her seeking out a contract to produce an Owen Hart for WWE's Legends line, she's probably go insane. But if Jakks approached her with an offer for Owen to appear in a Legends of the Ring series, in NO way affiliated with the WWE, she might... MIGHT consider.

WTF. No way am I starting over the collection and going to Mattell. I prefer the Jakks RA figs anyway. But yes, it is very frustrating to see the Von Erich's and Macho Man signed by Mattell. This may explain why I have not spent any money on action figures in a long time.

My biggest want right now, is for JAKKS to get excited about their new Legends line and start giving us some news with line-ups, protos, and just give us an ounce of encouragement that they actually care about this line.

OP: Honestly man, I feel the same way. I was completely against Mattel... but man, they're getting it done. And Jakks really pissed me off with their half-assed effort down the stretch of their tenure. I hate to say it... but I might have to invest into Mattel. I'll start with the SDCC Undertaker.

The announcements did it for me. Seeing some of the protos got me to break down and buy Legends Steamboat today, and I'm considering some others. I wont be collecting many other mattels besides a few legends and the occasional Elite to get signed like Morrison, etc. But yes, the announcement of Savage and the Von Erich's got me to buy the occasional Mattel. Although the 14.99 price tag is killing me.

I quit collecting mattels becasue I know I wouldnt be able to keep up financially with the collection. Im not spending thousands of dollars again after I just did that with Jakks. But mattel has outdid themselves and if Jakks wasnt making TNA I'd be spending more on Mattles.

Has anyone else heard about the Rougeaus? Someone posted it on here but that was the first I've heard of them being signed.

Jakks has about the same chance as Mattel does for releasing an Owen Hart. And that is NO CHANCE AT ALL. Martha Hart would sue the asses off of Jakks or Mattel or WWE or TNA or whoever releases an Owen Hart, because Martha hates wrestling.
