Can someone tell me when the BCA mould stopped being used? Im a bit confused because am I right in saying that the early Titan Tron Live figures used the BCA mould? Hopefully someone can clear this up for me, thanks.

Hopefully someone can clear this up for me, thanks. October 2001 is when the final series (#5) of original BCA Backlash figures was released to select stores. Titan Tron Live was an entirely new concept when it was introduced in 1999. None of the BCA molds were used for it, head sculpts included. The newer BCA style, which more closely resembled the TTL figures in scale, ran from August 2001 to November 2003, then they too were replaced by TTL figures as the resident bargain bin KB Toys line.

Man Ringside series 3 sounds like pure fire! I’d have loved to have seen a BCA Pat Patterson and Gerald Brisco as well as a new Jackie and Debra. The Double Slam Debra was complete garbage (Toyfare one was decent). It’s so crazy to look back at these “rumored” lineups. We can go back and see how vastly different the lines actually came out. It’s also just a little bittersweet. It leaves us wondering what could have been. BCA is arguably one of my favorite eras due to my age. There’s no way we can recreate it (save through customs) and even if we did, it wouldn’t have the same simple, cheesy magic (kind of like how Mattel’s retro series just doesn’t capture that same Hasbro magic imo). You also gotta wonder if some of these many many rumored BCA figures were proto’d. Like maybe one day a random Brisco or Patterson may surface. Possibly even that rumored Tennessee Lee or infamous “WrestleMania Celebrity” like haha! These often passes through my mind when figures randomly pop up. Fingers crossed that maybe we’ll get some random BCA protos crawl into our lives! Yeah, I do like the paint apps better on the ToyFare Exclusive Debra than the 2 Tuff Series 5 figure. I'd wager a good 75 to 80 percent of the rumored lineups on the web back then had no basis in reality. Just a bunch of figure fans like ourselves who want to believe in something and kid ourselves into thinking this or that could happen. That's not to say there weren't people with legitimate access to information from Jakks, because there were, but often their news would get misconstrued by second-hand reporters or internet trolls looking to stir the pot. I think the truth with Ringside Collection Series 3 lies somewhere in between. Patterson and Brisco probably weren't coming down the pike so soon. Neither were Dok Hendrix, Michael Cole, or Kevin Kelly. Besides the supposed JR and Slaughter re-releases, other names mentioned like Shane McMahon (suited in Superstars Series 8), Debra (with Double J in 2 Tuff Series 5), Jacqueline (the only Diva in Signature Series 3), and the Cameraman (a prominent piece in the Grapple Gear Series 3 "Raw Live!" set) all made it into the line before TTL took over. Because there was a sense of urgency with getting those names through, I'm more inclined to believe they were part of a Series 3 than any others.

Haha it’s hilarious reading some of those rumors. It’s so cool that the site is still up! And that blue suited Shane was one of my favorites back then!
The BCA era left a lot out as did the TTL line did. I sometimes find it ironic we got BCAs of Godfather, Val Venus, Terri, Jackie, Bulldog and Bearer but no TTLs for them.
I don’t know about you guys but every time I come to this thread I get nostalgic. I REALLY wish I hadn’t had sold my 150+ BCAs for a buck each! I see them often at flea markets but the prices are just too much for me to reason to buy. I’d be willing to spend $2 or $3 on them loose but when you start going $5-$8 loose, it’s too much. I’m really hoping to find a bulk lot of them for a good price. Especially since my brother (he’s 6...yeah BIG age gap) watches the ‘96-‘98 era Raw Is War episodes with me. It’d be awesome to relive my childhood with my brother with the BCAs!

The 2001-2003 era BCAs just didn’t have that same magic the first set did. I didn’t really get why they were even made. I think Jakks wanted to try something new with an old reliable concept ("bone crunching action"), except it was never to going to get the attention that it deserved so it failed. They introduced Real Scan heads and new articulation at the neck and waist to "improve" upon the old BCA sculpts. Is that what fans wanted? Probably not, but I don't think the BCA figures of old would have satisfied either. Most collectors had moved on and begun to embrace TTL figures by the time these were on display at Toy Fair in February 2001. Then they hit stores in the fall and after a few decent assortments, Jakks went back to their old ways and nixed original body parts in favor of using the same molds over and over again. Fast-forward a decade and a half and the very same thing could be said of the Mattel Retro line, though I'm still holding out hope for it and wish it all the success in the world.

So for those of you that collect loose, how important are accessories to you? Do you need each weapon that was released with each figure, or is the wrestler enough?
For me personally, if it's a piece of entrance gear, article of clothing, or signature prop then it's a necessity. Examples include Goldust's wig, the LOD shoulder pads, Jim Cornette's tennis racquet etc. Items like axes, scythe's, clubs, doors, and other weapons that we wouldn't see in a wrestling match I couldn't care less about. Borderline are things like folding chairs; I'd like them but I don't consider them necessary.
Where do you stand?

Figures are, obviously, why I gravitate towards the line, but the weapons are incredible and the best part of collecting Jakks figures from the late '90s-early 2000s. The BCA cloth accessories are no slouch either. I just don't think any company with a wrestling figure line has proven themselves worthy of measuring up to Jakks' output as far as the weapons are concerned. The molds used today are more than acceptable, and no one should need to care about detail on a wooden crate or dumpster toy, but Jakks set the bar so high that I don't think it will ever be topped.

LOD’s shoulder pads, Cornette’s racquet, Bearer’s urn...that’s pretty much it. Most of the BCAs accessories are so off the wall and weird (STOMP especially) that I don’t really need them.

I enjoy the Jakks rings better than most any other out there, but accessories for a figure are a must for me.

Agreed. Unless they are wrestler specific, it doesn't matter. I'm looking for a few hats actually...

Does anyone else find it weird that more BCA prototypes haven't come up in recent years? It seems like we would have had some "2up" versions of BCA heads, sculpts, or other unreleased items pop up. Did Jakks really stick to the script that well in the BCA years?

Purchased these at a Comic Con yesterday. Road Warrior Animal and Sting were booked to be there but Animal dropped out and it turned out Sting was only there for the Saturday, ugh! Still, I got a Commissioner Slaughter at last! Bossman has his balaclava which is a bonus. Also picked up JYD and Roddy Piper LJN thumb wrestlers.

I had the blue version of that Shawn Michaels growing up and adored it. The likeness is spot on and he was perfect for doing all of Shawn's signature moves. his mid 98 to early 99 release dates were a bit odd though

Did Jakks really stick to the script that well in the BCA years? Yeah, a little bit. As much as I would like to see more, I don't want a whole bunch of auctions to pop up at once. I'd like to be able to bid comfortably on one or two items. Somebody, somewhere, is sitting on a treasure trove of BCA prototypes and unused parts. It might not draw in the same number of bidders as Hasbro and LJN for their respective WWF lines, but I do think there is good money to be had in never-before-seen BCA era pieces. The reason why we haven't seen more is probably because they are sitting in storage, packed away in a corner of a garage or rented unit and they haven't crossed the mind of the owner (likely a former Jakks employee) in at least 15 years. If it was that way for Terry Lattimer, then it's likely true of others who worked alongside him. Give it another five years and I'd bet something big will surface on eBay or Craigslist. rvd3434 scored big on the Ministry Bradshaw sculpt and I found that pretty impressive.

Maybe this will help someone else. I've received several loose BCA's in the mail lately that have absolutely REEKED of smoke. If you soak the figures overnight in a solution of vinegar and water it eliminates the odor.
Certainly wouldn't recommend this method for carded figures. ; )
