It's been almost 10 YEARS ( next March) since I last bought a mint figure of this guy online, and for close to the original retail price. This hoss presented itself to me in the form of an add-on item sold by a third-party seller on Amazon. Once I saw the price was reasonable for a MOC BCA figure ($5.99), I went ahead and added it to my cart. Not to mention, I was holding out hope that I might possibly win an exclusive Stone Cold Steve Austin figure for the second time in my life (still, nothing compares to your first). Unfortunately, much like the WWF's attempt at making a star of "Dr. Death" Steve Williams, I failed miserably. Look at this smug bastard rubbing it in my face. Oh well. At least I got a half-decent BCA figure out of the deal. I mean, yeah, it's just a repainted Mark Henry figure with a head looking like a perverted Paul Bunyan, but he's my Sexual White Chocolate dammit! Before I go completely off the rails, I thought I'd make mention of the change that was made to the skull logo on Dr. Death's right thigh. You'll see in the images below that the reference photo/original prototype figure skull does not at all resemble the skull on the finished product. It's funny to me that they end up using the skull logo of the other Steve Williams, which I can only assume is what they had the rights to use at the time they were rushing this figure through production.

What would the average price for MOC BCA figures be? I bought an old WWF chest off of a woman on Facebook and she brought a tote of MOC BCA figures. I passed on them as I didnt collect them any ore (actually need to sell my loose ones) but she asked what a fair price was, she said singles she was selling for $5 and Doubles $10

Anything more and I would have to see which ones she's selling, but 5 and 10 are what I would expect to pay, minimum, for individual MOC listings on eBay.

I’ve been wanting to add this picture for a long time now, but had to wait on the Hall of Fame Diesel to come out. Unfortunately my carded series 1 BCAs are a little hard to get to right now and I don’t have a loose series 1 Goldust, so the picture still isn’t as complete as I wanted it. But I think you guys get the idea. I present to you my Mattel BCA series 1 tribute Mattel has finally released each figure in basically their series 1 BCA attires ( Bret’s attire may not be the exact attire but its close)

Wasn't he one of the biggest shelfwarmers? Yes, he was. I don't think anyone could've predicted just how bad, though. Seeing that figure reminds me of the interview Hbreakid did with Jakks employee Serge Laganiere back in 1999. My favorite bit in all of the conversation was this: My guess is the WWF knew they wanted to do something special with Steve Williams upon signing him in mid-May 1998, so they requested his first Jakks figure be made as soon as possible. His figure was released to stores in January 1999, roughly 7-8 months after he signed. By that time, he was just getting started again from injuries he sustained in the Brawl For All tournament. Williams didn't even make it a full year with the WWF (in-ring wise, for sure, but he was still under contract until November 1, 1999), and in all that time he didn't exactly leave a lasting impression (unless you count the KO from Bart Gunn).

Ive always personally enjoyed playing with the Dr Death figure. Always had him teaming with steve blackman the good version figure lol. anyways with the mattel retro figures ive been using the heads for some bca customs. So far ive done Brock Lesner, Roman Reigns and recently Sting. Planning on also doing Dean Ambrose, Seth Rollins and maybe a AJ Styles. The Sting on the right is the older one I did which I think the head is of the toybiz version which now I think will use as fake Sting. Too bad I didnt have all these as a kid, sure would have had some awesome matches. Still can, but think as a kid they would have been more epic hehe. and for a good laugh....

Love the retro heads on the BCAs. Can’t wait to see more. The Mattel pic of the first BCA series is great as well!

Sorry if this has already been been covered in the thread, but does anyone know why there was such a long gap between Superstars 5 and 6? Looking back it seems odd to have nearly a year between series of the flagship line when the series had been coming out fairly regularly prior to that. It seemed like there were a lot of non-BCA figures coming out in early-mid 98 ( STOMP, the short lived legends series) but not much in the various BCA lines.

For the most part, I think Jakks wanted to get other lines off the ground first before continuing with Superstars Series 6. The long layoff certainly didn't help rumors from spreading online about the fate of the Bone Crunching Action figures in early 1998. Nevertheless, Derek Phillips, licensing director for the WWF and an oft-cited source at the time, said in February '98 that "[BCA] is still here and will be featured in the next round of series being released in April." He was likely referring to 2 Tuff 2-Packs Series 1 and Shotgun Saturday Night Series 1, not so much the flagship line. The lineup for Superstars Series 6 wouldn't be confirmed online until early-to-mid August '98. Up until then, Series 6 was believed to have been replaced by Slammers Series 3. Steve Blackman's debut figure, in particular, looked ready-made for a Slammers wave. I know Jakks was also experiencing significant shipment delays in the late summer/early fall of '98 which caused several series to arrive much later to stores than was originally intended.

That makes perfect sense. I forgot about the Slammers line - as a kid it seemed like a step back to Hasbro to have figures with set actions and I preferred the flexibility of the rubber limbs. But that would fit in the timeline, and would explain why most of the Slammers 2 never got BCA releases. It just seemed odd to be missing figures of some of the main guys on TV right as the Attitude Era was getting started. Thanks for the info!

Got Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose during the big sale at ringside! I first chose to use the first Undertaker figure then had a change of mind to try a Rock figure but ultimately going back to Taker. Never did like Takers first figure anyways. Thinking of maybe getting Dean a custom shirt or trying a shirtless HBK ive been eyeing. I personally think Taker's body looks better then the Rocks for Seth. The Shield ready to take over the BCA world!

zappa2510Love the fix-ups. How would you say the Mattel Retro heads fit on the BCA bodies? Are they a difficult swap? I know Mattel was going for an early '90s look with the Retro figures, but those heads could just as easily pass for Jakks circa 1997 (and I mean that in a good way).

The BCA pegs are bigger so I pretty much have to make my own and then glue them. I totally agree thats why I started with Brock cause the head looked BCAish. Kinda wanna do Goldberg and AJ Styles. But dont really care for Goldbergs yelling head and if I did AJ was thinking of using the Saturday night Rock figure. Cant really think of anything else/

They do indeed, I just put them on tonight thats why the pictures arent bright but yea they look great. I still think the BCA line be just as collectible as the Hasbro's some day. They are by far and away the most fun to play with, Ive a massive Mattel elite collection and I still prefer playing with the BCA's.
