After a few days of searching I found the Backlash Series 2 X-Pac! (I believe. He's in the Black/Red Summerslam 99 attire.) Now I'm just hoping the matching Kane pops up. I've also been looking at the champions 4 pack with Rock/Austin/Kane/X-Pac. Did X-Pac ever wear that attire? I'm almost positive he didn't, but it's pretty sweet looking. You really found that Backlash X-Pac after only a few days? It took me years to get that fig lol. The X-Pac in that Champions 4 Pack is supposed to be based off his attire at Wrestlemania 15, but the color is off in a couple of places. These were my 2 holy grails as X-Pac is my all-time favorite and I always wanted BCA figures of him in these 2 attires as a kid. I was able to pick them both up barely within the past year, in September I met him for the 1st time and got my Backlash figure signed.

Any idea why the BCA line hasn't retained any of its value? There's so much nostalgia surrounding the LJN and Hasbro lines, yet the BCA's have never been as popular. I think it's because there were so many bca figures and so many variations and so mass produced. I don't think we'll ever see the ljn hasbro galoob osftm nostalgia again because of this ? That's a fair point to make. The great bulk of the line has suffered on the secondary market due to mass production, but I believe quality control issues are also a major concern for collectors. It rubbed people the wrong way then when their pets' figures' heads (and especially limbs) were falling off, and I'm sure to this day those are not pleasant memories for most adult collectors. I don't blame anyone for taking their hard earned money elsewhere given those circumstances. Also, BCA figures cannot compete in the likeness department and the necessity for proper scale among modern collectors means these toys are becoming increasingly obsolete. Jakks never quite knew what they wanted the "bone crunching" mechanism to be either, and so I have to think it hurt the potential for the line's collectability later on.

X-Pac arrived today! The torso is a little loose, but it's still awesome.

It helped that I was looking for it loose, I guess. Kane and X-Pac might just be my favorite tag team ever, so I absolutely needed to get them, starting with X-Pac. X-Pac was a great tag partner to many, but I always felt that he and Kane brought something special out in each other. I just wish WWF/E wouldn't have broke them up so soon because it didn't do either of them any favors. X-Pac arrived today! The torso is a little loose, but it's still awesome. 'Tis a great repaint, and a VERY hard one to find at that. I often wonder if it was shortpacked in the limited number of Backlash Series 2 cases that were sent out. Unfortunately, I don't have the numbers to back it up, but I can assure you I've seen WAY more Series 1 and Series 5 X-Pac figures than I've ever seen this one. Especially mint on the card; I've probably only seen five or six tops in all of my years searching eBay.

Admittedly, what drew me to them was watching Summerslam 99 on VHS when I was a1 kid. It was 02/03 and I was hoping Kane and X-Pac were still a team. I was like five. XD I guess to me having the BCA representations of that means a lot to me.

Did the original Austin 3:16 shirts not have the smoke coming out of the skull? The figure in the above box set doesn't and Mattel's series 29 Austin doesn't have the smoke either.

I'm pretty sure they did, but I couldn't tell you off of the top of my head all of the BCA figures which used that original skull logo. BCA Austin from the No Holds Barred 3-pack has blue smoke emanating from the skull logo on the back of its shirt: Everyone's favorite Live Wire Series 1 Austin also has the blue smoke logo, but oddly enough it's on the front: Backlash Series 5 Austin has a small skull logo on the back with orange/yellow smoke emanating from it: There are certainly others out there such as the Shotgun Saturday Night Series 1 Austin (same as No Holds Barred), but I don't have any pics to share of it at this time.

That's odd. All I remember, they had the smoke coming out of the skull. So I wonder why on that BCA figure and on Mattel's they chose to leave it off.

Did anyone else receive their first BCAs on Xmas?
My parents were hesitant to let my brothers and I watch WWF and after lots of begging and a deal that we would only watch one wrestling show a week so I started watching Raw the day after Wrestlemania in 1998. I begged for wrestling toys the rest of the year and for Christmas I had carefully assembled a list of wants from most wanted (Attitude Ring and DX members) on. We didn't have much money (never an allowance, usually only one birthday present and a few Xmas gifts per kid) but that Christmas my younger brother and I got the attitude ring, Stone Cold 3-pack with shirts, HHH vs Owen grudge match, Mark Henry and Slammers Mankind! I was stunned! I had never held a BCA figure (though I'd spent hours at Target and Toys r Us looking at them MOC) and I played from the moment I pulled them out of the box until it was time for bed. Every match I could dream of. I even broke one of the rounded cage pieces after a few hours playing a little too rough with the slammers mankind vs HHH.
And thus began my addiction. And what a year to do it! 1999 was without a doubt THE year of the BCA figure! I did any chores, collected any change I found, and i went full blown BCA mental! I was equally excited when I was reading about TTL being in the works. I wanted a stage and I was imagining the BCA figs with more articulation. I was imagining a mix between BCA and Toybiz WCW. I got a few for Christmas 1999 but my interest quickly waned. I collected BCA until I couldn't find them anymore then switched to attempting to complete WCW Toybiz. But playability was always first for me and my fig fed continued without TTL and was a BCA heavy mix with Toybiz and OSFTM ECW. I played with my figures until I was about 15 and got my first girlfriend. I played a little (secretly) then one day realized I hadn't set up in ring in a few months.
Christmas always reminds me of that first set of figures I got and I always get nostalgic. Many years later I found this forum and got the buzz all over again. Ive been away a while but I'm glad to see a lot of you are still here keeping the BCA thread alive. And it's nice to recognize names of folks I've traded with in the past few years and see your collections are still going strong. Anyway, happy late Christmas to all you guys and I hope you're well! Over the past week(s) I've read from where I left off (mid 2013) to now. You guys rule and your collections make me want to keep building mine!
For those of you that got out of collecting then returned, what was the first thing you went after? I went after all the Nation figures and xpac in green attire (Fully Loaded 2 Survivor Series 99).

The BCA box sets just had so much personality to them, the packaging is just as much a feature of them as the figures are themselves. Jakks towards the end or even Mattel now would never make a box set like they did back then.

I've been collecting BCAs since they came out but have never seen that Go Mental box set. Nice find. I think I have 3 different box sets with that Dude Love slammer in it. As someone asked before regarding value , that was always a problem with BCAs, they flooded the market with them. All the box sets were basically store specials with a bunch of figures from other lines that were self warmers. That's why a set like the Buried Alive boxed set has still held some value as it had an exclusive figure not available as a single release.

Something I've always been curious about. Why did they insist on using the Ahmed Johnson legs for HHH, Stone Cold, and The Rock when all three had better leg molds available? Rocky even had his own personalized set.

I think that's just one of those weird BCA things... Like they didn't like to mix and match parts or something? That's why we get weird things like D,Lo with a Vader body (The gloves bother me the most about that) and Dr. Death and Jeff Jarrett wearing tanktops. Speaking of Jarrett, how many figures with short hair did he get? Did they ever make one without the tanktop?

Here they are! I finally got the Bret & Owen figures, and they are tacked on my wall proudly next to the Diesel and Razor set.

For those of you that got out of collecting then returned, what was the first thing you went after? I went after all the Nation figures and xpac in green attire (Fully Loaded 2 Survivor Series 99). Wow, that definitely takes me back to my childhood just reading what you wrote. My parents always tried to go above and beyond for me and my sister, and that included many Christmases where they went without. I don't recall getting any BCA figures for Christmas 1996, but I know that I got the first Championship Title Series 4-pack in '97 and a few Grapple Gear Series 1 packs in '98. The following year was big for me as well - I loaded up on all of the new BCA and TTL figures in '99, so much so that I don't think I've ever topped that haul. It wasn't until Christmas 2007 that I received another BCA present, this time to myself, and it was the complete set of DTA Tour Series 2 (featuring Blue Blazer) that I won on eBay for $29 shipped. The BCA box sets just had so much personality to them, the packaging is just as much a feature of them as the figures are themselves. Jakks towards the end or even Mattel now would never make a box set like they did back then. Nope, those were definitely special times for these kinds of sets. I completely agree about the packaging being a draw all its own. Generally, I prefer the earlier sets because they really did have a certain aura surrounding them. Maybe it had to do with the "Special Edition" moniker and how all of the little details seemed to fall right into place, but I love their look and consider them to be the timeless ones (e.g. Survivor Series, Championship Title Series #1, Buried Alive etc.). Actually, Dude Love was only in two BCA boxed sets - Mick Foley's Triple Threat and the aforementioned Go Mental 4-pack. If we were still in 1998-99, I would probably pull all of my hair out trying to track down the many exclusive sets in this line. Fortunately, I can do all of that from in front of my computer screen now, but I can relate to others who don't wish to own more than a few. The truth is that most of them are junk re-releases and not worth spending over $12-15 each. You would have to be the most hardcore of Jakks BCA collectors to own them all, and to those people I say bless your crazy little hearts lol. Something I've always been curious about. Why did they insist on using the Ahmed Johnson legs for HHH, Stone Cold, and The Rock when all three had better leg molds available? Rocky even had his own personalized set. Great question. I don't know if anyone has an official answer to this, but I believe Jakks found a little loophole where they could effectively reuse a body part for multiple figures and in the process save themselves a bunch of money. It wasn't the first time and it certainly wouldn't be the last. Maybe, just maybe, there were a few decision makers at Jakks who were members of a secret society of really big Ahmed Johnson fans who couldn't cope with the fact that he never made it to that Austin/Rock/Triple H level and would do anything in their power to keep parts of that dream alive. That is until the Backlash Series 5 The Rock figure was released in October 2001 marking the end of the four and two-thirds years run of Ahmed's legs. The secret society disbanded and Ahmed's legs were never to be used again. True story. "Double J" Jeff Jarrett had seven BCA figures in all, five of which came with the short hair head sculpt. You won't find any shirtless "Double J" figures here, though ellisd did show us his excellent custom version back in August of last year. 1. Superstars Series 6 (Released September 1998) - Debut BCA Figure 2. Best of '98 Series 2 (Released November 1998) - TRU exclusive re-release of #1 3. Shotgun Saturday Night Series 2 (Released January 1999) - Short hair/black tank top/silver trunks look 4. Grudge Match 2-pack vs. X-Pac (Released May 1999) - Re-release of #3 5. DTA Tour Series 2 (Released May 1999) - Wal-Mart exclusive repaint of #3 with white tank top 6. 2 Tuff Series 5 2-pack with Debra McMichaels (Released September 1999) - Bulkier sculpt with black "Don't Tick Me Off!" tank top and silver trunks with black/white trim 7. Special Edition Series 6 (Released November 1999) - KB Toys exclusive repaint of #6 with same tank top and silver trunks with red/white trim Here they are! I finally got the Bret & Owen figures, and they are tacked on my wall proudly next to the Diesel and Razor set. Congrats! As you're well aware, these are two of the very best BCA double packs that one can own and you've got them both. Do you plan on adding any others to your display?

Last Saturday I got in one of my biggest BCA hauls ever from a third-party seller on Amazon and I thought I'd share pics before the year is up. It may not compare to Christmas 16 years ago (see: my last post) when we were all riding the WWF's wave of mainstream popularity, but I think this comes pretty close. Everything total came to $37.56 shipped which isn't too shabby if you do the math - $2.68 per item (13 MOC singles and 1 MIB 4-pack) or $2.21 per mint figure. Technically, I received 15 MOC singles figures but I'm not counting the other two towards the total since those were freebies graciously thrown in by the seller. We'll start first with the Last Man Standing 4-pack I bought which was an exclusive to Wal-Mart stores in August 1999 with a $17.96 price tag. It includes re-releases of Stone Cold Steve Austin (2 Tuff Series 4 with darker colored facial hair), The Rock (Superstars Series 8 with unpainted Owen Hart/X-Pac arms), Vince McMahon (Superstars Series 9 without suit pieces) and Shane McMahon (an exact replica of Fully Loaded Series 2). It's a set worth picking up if you like unusual BCA variations or if you missed out on the figures the first time around, but that's about it for this set. Here are the pics: And now here is the rest of my order which consists of five figures from Special Edition Series 5 (released July 1999), five figures from Special Edition Series 6 (released November 1999), four figures from Backlash Series 5 (released in October 2001), and one figure from Fully Loaded Series 2 (released July 1999). Excluding Fully Loaded Series 2 Test and the Last Man Standing 4-pack, all of the figures shown below were exclusive to KB Toys stores at some time or another. Jarrett and Austin from Special Edition Series 6 were the two freebies I received. The two figures that are missing that would otherwise complete the two sets of Special Edition figures are Series 5 Edge and Series 6 The Rock. I've already got The Rock, but Edge (a re-release of the Signature Series 3 figure) is missing from my collection. I think it's also worth noting again that the four Backlash Series 5 figures seen here are among the very last series of original BCA figures ever to be produced by Jakks. This is only half of Series 5 which also includes final BCA repaints of The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin, X-Pac and Hardcore Holly. Here are the pics: One final group shot for good measure. I hope everyone else is having fun this holiday season even if they aren't hoarding BCA figures like I am lol. I've had company in for the first time in forever and it was nice to spend time with family. Whatever you've been up to this past week, please do remember to stay safe later tonight and I'll see all of you in the new year! 20 years of BCA figures... here we come.

Am I wrong in remembering that the Jarrett with sort hair was nothing more than the new Owen head from Superstars 6?
