dude...to him, it's not metal or nothing. that's the way you're choosing to interpret his posts. he's saying the truth completely...people SHOULD have some shame for supporting such a dreadful act as lady gaga. it's kept other deserving musicians back and it's just a cancer in the music industry. there's enough attention whores. No. It's your opinion and choice to agree with him. No one is required to have "shame" for liking what they like. Corey Taylor said that best, so credit goes to him for that. He has Rick Astley on his iPod. He's the vocalist for Slipknot and Stone Sour. Should he be ashamed for that? No he shouldn't. For you to insinuate that people should be ashamed for what they like is completely ridiculous.

i think that you trying to find some way of defending enjoying lady gaga is ridiculous. it's absolute garbage music...and there's no ifs or buts about it. it's programmed production and flashy colors designed specifically just to get eaten up by all the central media feeding swine...and that's that. you've been conditioned to enjoy it.

And that's your opinion. Your entitled to that. No one is taking that away from you, and no one here once said that you have to like Lady GaGa, like it's the law. But again, for you to consistently reply with bashing and belittling remarks is what I'm saying is ridiculous. And I'm sure I'm not the only one who will say this. Oh. and I've not been "conditioned" to enjoy anything. Nobody tells me what I like. I'm 24 years old, I make those decisions myself. But in that same vein, no one tells me what I can't like either.

To be fair everyone has been conditioned in some way, shape or form to like the kind of music that they enjoy. I'm just tossing that out there.
Music is subjective. Blah blah blah. Starting to sound like a broken record.

yep, i'm not going to disagree with that. however, self recognition of that is the first point for eventual progression, escaping conditioning at least to some form of 'freedom' of the mind.
it depresses me more than anything that people enjoy lady gaga. it's just like...there's so much more out there, and you'll never even be interested in finding it because they closed the doors before you even knew they were there.

I like some of Gaga's music but that's because I'm a fan of music not just Pop Music. Just to give a scope here is a small-ish sampling of other music that I enjoy.
Neil Young, Aldo Nova, April Wine, Godsmack, Saxon, Tool, The Spill Canvas, Dream Theater, RUSH, Muse, Airbourne, Alter Bridge, Apocalyptica, Bang Camaro, Avenged Sevenfold, Slayer, Queensryche, George Harrison, Cake, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Children Of Bodom, Les Claypool, Deep Purple, Silversun Pickups, Pantera, Queens of the Stone Age, Iron Maiden, The Beatles, Bullet for My Valentine, AC/DC, Slayer, Megadeth, Behold... The Arctopus, Joe Cocker, A Perfect Circle, Between the Buried and Me, Bigelf, Black Tide, Boston, Brian Setzer, Brown Brigade, , Geddy Lee, Mike Portnoy, Neil Peart, Buckethead, Cat Stevens, Celesty, Coheed and Cambria, DevilDriver, Dio, Dropkick Murphys, Foo Fighters, Foreigner, Fozzy, Freezepop, Grave Digger, Guns N' Roses, Hammerfall, Joe Satriani, Journey, King Diamond, Kreator, Lamb of God, Machine Head, Mastodon, Motorhead, Nightwish, Paper Lions, Pearl Jam, Pink Floyd, Primus, Priestess, Queen, The Raconteurs, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Rev Theory, Shiny Toy Guns, Steve Vai, Stormwarrior, Stratovarius, The Sword, That Handsome Devil, Tragically Hip, Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Triumph, Trooper, Uriah Heep, Van Halen, Vision Divine, Volbeat, The Wallflowers, Waterproof Blonde, Judas Priest, Metallica, Tenacious D, Disturbed, The Fratellis, Dragonforce, Display Of Decay
Yet at the same time as all this I also enjoy the occasional song by Eminem or Taylor Swift. By no means have any of my doors closed because I like some of her songs

No, it's literally that cut and dry. As it goes for every piece of music ever written by anyone. Some people like it, some people don't. People who like it have no right to say anyone else is "missing" something by not liking it; and those that don't have no right to tell people that do that they're some sort of mindless drone. And wouldn't the "politics of it, society, and media" mean a class discussing the sociology of fame is a good idea, and thus the original point of this thread is validated?

sorry pal, but you're absolutely wrong. while music obviously differs in standards and tastes by person, there are many other factors that should (and do, to anyone reasonable) vary your response to it. for example, gaga's music is for the most part repetitive lyrics surrounding nothing usually but sexual exploits and creating controversy while some producer does all the work in the musical aspect.
people SHOULD seek out positive messages and morals from music, and not consume contrived, corrupt people who never deserved to get where they did, and only are so because people are getting rich off them.
south park sums it up nicely, as i imagine you'd say some people can 'just like the jonas bros':
it's the same thing with gaga, only she's aimed at being sexually provocative to people in their mid teens and adult youths.

and considering that class will, apparently, be encouraging and glorifying what gaga did, i'd have to say no, that class has no validity.

I'll agree that people should listen for positive messages in songs, but I'm not going to bash people over the head for liking what they like. Despite you using it with a negative connotation, there's nothing with liking the Jonas Brothers. I don't listen to their stuff and have absolutely no desire to, but that doesn't mean that what they do is irrelevant; because they obviously have a big influence on people's (specifically younger kids) lives. And are they not known for being religious and wearing purity rings? Man, we don't want those bastards influencing today's youth! What it comes down to is some people like something you hate. Rather than think "Eh, screw this. It doesn't effect my life too much if they like Lady Gaga"; you've taken the "HEY YOU GUYS SHOULDN'T LIKE HER MUSIC BECAUSE IT'S BEING FORCE-FED TO YOU BY THE CORPORATE FAT CATS WHILE THEY HOLD DOWN OTHER MUSICIANS. OPEN YOUR MINDS!" approach. Really...what the does it matter to you if someone likes her music?

I fail? No, I don't think so. You fail for being so incredibly off base that it's not even funny. First of all, for the most part I don't even like modern music, I listen mostly to classic rock and older music. Lady Gaga is the only current artist I listen to. Why? Because I actually ing like her music. I used to hate Lady Gaga too, believe it or not, it wasn't until Paparazzi that I started to like her, and Bad Romance made me a huge fan. See, I actually like her music because it sounds good to me, not because everybody else likes it. This business of you saying that I like stuff because it's "fed to me around the clock" is ing ridiculous. You don't know me, so STFU, because if you did know me you would know I'm not one that follows the crowd. I do form my own opinions, and IMO, Lady Gaga makes great music. No one is forcing you to like Lady Gaga, and nobody is forcing their opinions on you so stop forcing your opinions on us. You really need to get your head out of your ass and stop criticizing people just because they like mainstream music, you're no better than anyone else just because you don't like it, so stop acting like you are. So please, do us all a favor and stop being such a pretentious prick.

it matters hugely. i do have overall faith in humanity and i see things such as gaga as a scourge in the way of human progression straight up. i'm not religious in any form, but i truly believe that the manipulation of truth (SOMEHOW people arguing that gaga is not a bad form of music when her messages and artistry are literally trash) is what has created the form of a hell we all live in today with this youth-based driven live-for-the-moment lifestyle that media and society push onto people, limiting us all.
that's my opinion obviously, but i feel very strongly about it.

Music is music. If you want to look at the people making music that create a cesspool of trash look at the Soulja Boy's and the Miley Cyrus' and the Justin Beiber's... artists like Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift are fully capable of intelligent thought when it comes to constructing their songs unlike the vast majority of their pop music counterparts. If you wanna link the societal downturn as it relates to music than you oughta look elsewhere other than Lady Gaga. There have been songs with sexual undertones in it since the 70's.

aaaaah, of course music has sex in it! that isn't what i'm talking about! jesus, this was exactly what i meant at how people dodge the truth with only half relevant answers. yes, sure, sexual messages have been in the music industry since forever, but they have no been so deplorable and, straight up, evil, as now. it's straight up the manipulation of the human mind for their benefit.
and gaga is the one getting attacked because this is a thread about gaga...and people actually try to defend her. obviously miley cyrus and beiber are easy picks, they just fall under the south park video in my earlier post as well.
