I went to middle school and high school with a kid named Jared McLaughlin and he lives about a mile down the road from that Safeway. I almost crapmyself when they said the shooter's name is Jared Loughner.

Apparently a child was killed. 9 year old girl. This story just came on while I was watching Simpsons. 18 shot, at least 5 people dead. Apparently a federal judge died. I haven't read all of this thread so I might just be repeating info we already know. I don't understand people in this world. How you can go to a supermarket and open fire on innocent people. Especially a young girl. |

Also, is it bad that when I heard a politician got shot in Arizona, I immediately assumed it was a Mexican, and the incident was immigration-related?

This is weird. Here is the link to a facebook event that took place yesterday afternoon. www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=175633839141654 The event was only labeled as "Jared Loughner". Going through the profiles that RSVP's I've already found 1 that is in Tuscon. Coincidence? Maybe this is part of a country wide conspiracy. |

Seems all these people were shot in the head. How did that person do that? If one person was shot in the head wouldn't the others have ran away after they heard the shot? As scary as the situation would be, running away wouldn't do much. The average person can run what, 12 mph or so? The average bullet can travel at 1000+ mph. Running in a zig-zag pattern, while ducking and jumping would help however. |

In a turn of events, Rep. Gifford may not have been the target.
The Federal Judge, John Roll, that was killed has been receiving hundreds of threatening phone calls and in the weeks and months leading up to today, he was actually guarded by Federal Marshals. I don't know where they were today though.
"In one afternoon, Roll logged more than 200 phone calls. Callers threatened the judge and his family. They posted personal information about Roll online. "They said, 'We should kill him. He should be dead,' " Gonzales said."
