Giants fans are being ridiculous about it. The Giants lowballed him, and the Eagles actually gave him a good offer. He should have left a few million dollars on the table out of loyalty? The Giants didn't care about signing him, otherwise they wouldn't have lowballed him like that. If you're mad about him leaving, blame your team, not Smith. People give Smith too much credit. Smith refused to go on the PUP list, he just had microfracture surgery and the Giants thought it was in the best interest of the team. Smith wanted more guaranteed money/years from the Giants but accepted less from the Eagles. When asked if he gave the Giants a chance to match the 1 year offer he buckled and said "Uh, my agent is dealing with all of that" and he didn't know. Smith also missed the Green Bay and Eagles games last year that cost them the playoffs. Once again, he had microfracture surgery a few months ago and is refusing to go on the PUP list. The Giants have Hixon coming back (missed the year last year) and have invested time and money into Ramses Barden and Cruz. Not that they are a sure bet to be anything. The Giants have no business paying WR's and TE's right now. They should be building the team the right way, from the inside out. Not loading up the cap on WR's while the O Line is their biggest issue. That's the truth, Smith was not the biggest concern. |

Oh and for the record Smith was their slot receiver, when he was actually on the field last year. He wasn't even playing the sidelines over Mario Manningham.
I am not down playing how good Smith can be. But once again, microfracture knee surgery and they already have 2 other WR's that outperformed him last year and a bunch of problems on the O Line. They have no business spending that money on a WR while they are over the cap.
The fans of the New York Giants have been an embarrassment during this situation and it's kinda ironic because they always bash Eagles fans. I've always felt bad for Eagles fans, and thought Cowboys fans were the ones worth hating.

Honestly, I don't blame the Giants for letting him go. I would have too. That's what I am saying. He's a little douchey to be refusing the PUP list after microfracture. That and the team should be rebuilding that O-Line to protect Eli and the WR's and most importantly to get the running game back to where it was when it was the best in the league at one point. Had the Giants paid Boss, Smith and Cofield this offseason they'd be well over the cap for years to come and paying to maintain a team that missed the playoffs. They'd also run into trouble keeping our younger players. So now fans are mad because they are giving Hixon and/or Barden a shot. Barden is like 6'3" or more and going into his 3rd year. Did we just keep him around to always be a backup? Especially to a guy who refused to go on the PUP list after knee surgery? Makes no sense and neither do the fans right now. |

Lol at Giants fans....
First Hakeem Nicks is better than Jerry Rice and is top 5 reciever in the league. Now they talk Steve Smith up like hes god as well.
Carolinas' Steve Smith > Phillys' Steve Smith

I mean I understand that if you're pissed, you'll let it out. But just don't associate yourself with that player anymore. The comments that I read on Twitter and Facebook were so classless and distasteful it was un-real. If you don't want to wish him well, that's fine. But don't say you want his career over, or possibly crippled, or harm done to his family. That's just ridiculous, Some people really need to grow up in that fanbase. 100% agreed. Its not like the dude went and slaughtered dogs or anything.
