............it did this offseason. Same with the Red Sox, and it will continue until they are under the luxury tax. I am not saying its going to break the Yankees, but to tell me that A-Rods 10 year deal doesnt have an effect on the Yankees and their moves is silly You think in the 10 years of that contract that the Yankees aren't going to make somewhere in the neighborhood of $300 million in ticket sales, YES Network revenue and other Yankees/Alex Rodriguez merchandise? The Yanks will be fine. They won't be applying for food stamps anytime soon. Food stamps? Could you be more of a drama queen. The Yankees were gonna sell tickets regardless of if they paid A-Rod or not, THATS NOT THE POINT! They are going to do it regardless if its A-Rod, fat CC, etc. That deal sucks, its probably one of, if not the worst deal in baseball. If the Yankees get a grace period for it, then the Red Sox should be good for the next 20 years on Lackey (Which they are not) You know he has 143 million left on his deal right? Signed for the next SIX years! He will be 42 making 20$ million dollars with his hip probably broken off by then

Am I the only Yankee fan confident in A-Rod?

Am I the only Yankee fan confident in A-Rod? I think he's going to have a great year. He was injured last year. He went to Germany and had that shady stem cell procedure done to his knee, hip and shoulder like the one Bartolo Colon had to his shoulder that had him coming back dominating the AL throwing 96. I think A-Rod will be fine. Even if A-Rod isn't back to what he used to be, which is obvious because everybody declines as they age....,we still have Granderson, Cano, Swisher, Martin, Teixeira and Jeter, plus whoever is the DH might not even be a guy on the team as of now.....more than enough offense for a pitching staff and bullpen that projects to be one of the best in the game.

I've never been to knowledgeable on the money aspect of sports, is Josh Hamilton too out of reach for the Yankees?

Hamilton will stay in Texas, at a discount now. I doubt any big market teams take a chance on him especially for big dollars.

If George Steinbrenner was alive and saw the Cardinals win the WS, he wouldve made Albert Pujols the highest paid DH ever.

Could you be more of a drama queen?'' hahahahaha this made my day. In my opinion, 10 year deals to players in their 30's are only good for the first 3-4years (6-7 if you have a great player), the rest shouldn't be that bad but it defiantly won't be worth it, think about it though..as Lorenzo said, teams go decades without a World Series..if the guy can help you win one in that 10 year contract, it's defiantly worth the final 4-5 years of a bad contract.

Bingo, but the Yankees draft well enough and have enough good players it shouldnt cripple them, but its going to be problematic considering he might not be able to walk in a few years

I just don't buy the argument that the Yankees are poor. Can you honestly tell me that if Texeira walked in front of a bus last year that the Yankees wouldn't have been able to throw a gazillion dollars at Pujols? I don't buy it.

Of course the Yankees aren't poor. They're trying to lower their payroll to around $189MM. If the Yankees can keep their payroll that low until 2017 that will fetch them SERIOUS cash thanks to the new CBA. The problem is resisting the temptation to spend big money/keeping current players under fair deals. I don't think they'll sign Coal Hamels next offseason nor do I think they'll retain Swisher after this season.

Only major player I think the Sox will chase/get will be Andre Eithier, unless Kalish goes nuts in RF. Him and Pedroia wanna blow each other and Ethier has said he likes Boston.
Unless Buchholz, Lester, Beckett die, I think the next few years wont have many major FA moves in the rotation....and same with the offense. Crawford, Gonzalez, Pedroia, Salty are all there for a bit. I can see Salty/Ellsbury extensions or trades.

I hope the Phils manage to re-sign Hamels. Someone will pay him big money and that Howard contract will likely hamper their ability to re-sign him. He wants big money and he's 28 so he deserves it. Someone will pay him.

Someone will pay him. I got bad news for you, unless Hole Camels gets hurt...he wont be going back to Philly. They blew their loads on Howard, Papelbon, Lee, Doc, Rollins. I mean you cant pay 3 starters 60+ million because Hamels is gonna command 20 a year.
