Funny point about the video above, if you look closely, Edge isn't actually wearing the trenchcoat, it's just hanging loosely over his shoulders. After listening to his comment last night about how the trenchcoat he was given was two sizes too small, now it makes sense

RIP Edge.
Seriously though its a big shame but I liked how he went out and said everything, didnt just say my times up, he told us the ins and outs and how he should have really called it a day months/years ago but kept going.
I'm sure he will appear for a while, maybe Christians manager or commentator or trainer but its a darn shame to go out because you have to instead of wanting to.
Someone make some banner sig thingys.

Wow watchning raw last night this took me completly off guard. Edge is one of my favorite wrestlers of all time and to see him go so suddenly is such a shame. It makes me wanna cry I'm gonna miss him very very much and I hope he enjoys life after wrestling. Edge you had one of the best carrers of all time and you will always be remembered as the only Rated R superstar.

Edge was one of a kind. He showed that you can be a main eventer without looking like a body builder. He created truly iconic TLC moments and made the john cena show (wwe) worth watching. He was great at being heel and face and part of wwe will be forever missing. He is truly a legend.

Clearly as a person Edge is a class act, and a great worker... but in terms of his career, IMO, he was pretty overrated and certainly should not have been an 11 time world champion. He was good, but he wasn't THAT good. Still it sucks that he has to stop doing what he loves, and I am going to miss him.

Truly a sad sad day for the WWE. I had chills throughout the entire speach, and as many others have said, was just hoping Del Rio would come out so we would know that it was just a work.
For me Edge was the guy who I always was excited to see when I first got into watching. As a kid for me, he was the cool guy that I wanted to emulate and be like. He always put on entertaining matches night in and night out, and always let everything he had in the ring. And when he was finally given the chance, we all saw that he was complete gold on the mic.
Although I am very sad to see him go, I'm glad that he's walking away now before something life threatening happens to him. It would have been much much worse if he had stayed around longer and were to put his long-term health at risk. I'm glad that he still has good health, and now that he is choosing to do this at this time, he will be able to live a long happy life.
He always gave the impression of being full of energy and of having a young spirit, and I guess I always saw him going out on his own terms. I guess I just hoped that day wouldnt be coming so soon.
Thank you Edge for everything you have given to this company, and for constantly entertaining me throughout the years. We all will miss you.

Edge thank you for the 19 years of your life you spent entertaining me and wrestling fans across the world. You will truly be missed. I hope to see you on my television screen sometime soon even if it isn't wrestling.

While we're talking about Edge, I've always wondered, what was the origin of "you think you know me?" Like, what does that even mean?

I actually still can't come to grips with this. Anytime I'd discuss wrestling w/ my friends today at school, this was the topic for me. I actually downloaded both Versions of Metalingus, and have listened to both back and forth. I'll say this now, and Friday for Smackdown: I'm REALY GONNA ing miss doing the Spear imitations during The King of Awesome's entrance, and during his matches. To think I used to disrespect Edge, and now, I love the guy. WWE 24/7 should make next month dedicated to The Master Manipulator Thanks, Adam! And, for those interested RSC Facebook Page is doing a Edge Giveaway.

While we're talking about Edge, I've always wondered, what was the origin of "you think you know me?" Like, what does that even mean? Before Edge debuted in 1998, WWE showed a series of vignettes to introduce his character, similar to what they did with Sin Cara. Each one featured a mysterious female voice reading "Edge's Poetry" (according to Jim Johnston). I can't find the exact vignette, but one of them went something like: You think you know me, But you will never know me, You don't know yourself. You are lost, and scared, You know what I allow you to know, You're just a puppet who thinks he's alive. You're just a puppet. Most of those lines were used in his early entrance themes (see WWF the Music Volume 3) and as time went on, they just used "You think you know me". Funny because in the end, it had nothing to do at all with the original character, but it was Edge's version of Austin's glass smash or Taker's bell toll. Hope this helps

Leave the memories alone indeed. I'm fighting back tears as I watch that video and write this. It still hasn't really sunk in, that my favorite wrestler/entertainer/superstar/performer.... whatever you want to call him, is hanging it up. For good. I remember being 10 years old, way back in the day, and LOVING the whole Edge gimmick, from the minute he came through the crowd the first time and won by a count out. I'll admit, The Brood scared me a bit, I was a kid after all. Two of the first Jakks action figures I ever bought were a BCA Hawk, and Edge, of course. I loved the guy, he was like the coolest dude I ever see in the ring in the short time I'd been following WWF. I remember rooting for him and Christian every step of the way, leading up to the TLC match, and WOW did they shine. Edge was THE guy. I had this childish dream, like I'm sure all of us real fans did, to be a wrestler, and this guy was the reason why. He was my favorite since I was 10 years old, I've been following him for 13 years now, it really, truly, breaks my heart to see him have to go; even if we all knew it'd be coming one day. Watching Edge evolve in to one of the top guys in the business has been nothing short of epic for me. Seeing my favorite guy get recognized the way he did was just awesome. I've never missed an Edge moment, all the way up to last night. Part of me is glad of course, that he gets to leave with his health, but selfishly, as I'm sure most of his fans agree, I wish he'd stay around forever if possible. I have a tattoo almost similar to his, because of him. I discovered my favorite band due to Edge. His impact on me has transcended just wrestling, he is such a stand up guy, and I'm glad I got to watch him perform live as many times as I did. This is a really tough day for me, I can honestly say I've never felt this gutted over professional wrestling before, and I doubt I'll ever feel this way again for another wrestler. Edge was it for me. I'm going to think long and hard about whether or not I want to continue watching now that he's gone. It'll just be a bitter, constant reminder that one of the greatest of all time isn't able to do what he loves anymore. And that is a damn shame. Thank you, Edge! You've had a tremendous impact on my life, you truly are a legend. I'm an Edgehead for LIFE!!!

I'm not gonna post a long spiel. All I'm gonna say is Edge has been one of my favorites since his debut back in 1998...I'm crushed to know we'll never see him perform again.

I knew it was leftover from his original character, I didn't know if there was any sort of significant meaning behind it or anything. Funny how after all those years they never got rid of it. It's not like if Metalingus just started playing we wouldn't know who it was.

It's not like if Metalingus just started playing we wouldn't know who it was. Yeah, it was basically just a leftover from the mysterious, enigmatic Edge - "You think you know me..." I guess they kept it because it kinda became his "sound", like the glass smash, the bell, "If ya smell....", etc.

I am actually having trouble believing this. I have been listening to Metalingus on repeat since I heard. I need a new favorite wrestler... that'll be me next year, after WM 28..... been a Taker fan since November 1990....don't know how i'll function....

I waited a while to post, and all I can really say is that Edge is an inspiration.
The man grew up wanting this, chasing a dream, and he not only accomplished his goals, he went above and beyond them.
It's bittersweet in the end, he came in dreaming of becoming the WWE World Champion, and now he goes out as the champion, more than likely dreaming of just being able to hopefully entertain all of us, and just wrestle again some day.
Thanks Edge, stay healthy, and from the bottom of my heart, thank you for everything you gave.
