its real. as sad as it is, its real. this goes to show all the haters out there who say oh wrestling is fake blah blah blah, i would like to see those who say that garbage get into a ring and do what guys like edge did during his career, just so show them how "fake" it is. they wouldn't last through the lock up let alone an entire 15 year career. but all that aside, thank you edge for entertaining us through the years. no matter if we loved him or hated him he still gave us his all and he gave us countless memories throughout one hell of a career. i look forward to seeing christian inducting him into the hall of fame some day, he earned it

don't shoot the messenger, because there were rumors, but yet obvious.
From PWInsider: EDGE RETIRES by Mike Johnson @ 10:18 PM on 4/11/2011
For those who are wondering, the Edge retirement speech was 100% legitimate and real. We were told by a company source earlier this evening that when the major announcement was made tonight, it was not an angle and not storyline. The story that Edge told about medical tests coming back and showing there was a new issue with his neck and being advised he must retire are true. He was basically handed a mic and told to go out and say goodbye however he wanted.

You never can be sure in wrestling....of course there is no more wrestling. I think its real, I will take it at face value this time and say that this is terrible news and an absolutely catastrophic loss, especially on such short notice. If I'm wrong, whatever. Either way, I think I detected a bit of a cold shoulder for Morrison on the way out. Definitely deserved, especially is close as he and Trish are. Assuming its real, which I am, this is a terrible terrible shame. He really can't be replaced.

Still sitting in front of my unfinished paper due tomorrow in complete shock. This truly came out of nowhere and, selfishly, I was hoping that ADR's theme would play to confirm his speech being just a work.
Admittedly, I was a doubter when he first won the WWE Championship and didn't think he would last at the top. He quickly changed my mind. Through it all, I was always a fan of his and enjoyed the evolution of his character over the years. This just left a HUGE void on the SmackDown roster, but I'm glad he's leaving on top and under his own power.
Thanks for all the amazing memories, Edge. You'll be truly missed.

If this is real, its sad to see a great career end like this. I've been following Edge since he debuted back in the 90s and have been a fan ever since. I especially loved his E&C run from 1999-2001 and his singles run from 2001-2005. I wasn't really a fan of his Rated-R Superstar gimmick, but he was still great on the mic and in the ring. Thanks Edge.

WWE have posted an official statement - www.wwe.com/inside/edge-announcementI'm calling it as legit, no way was that a work. I have to say I'm saddened by this. Edge has been one of my favorites ever since he debuted. When he become the Rated R superstar he quickly become my favorite guy on the roster. I'll definitely miss him, WWE just won't be the same.

This is so sad, but I'm glad he's listening to his doctors and understanding his limits.
He's always been my favorite and i'm glad I was there to witness his last match.

Why does everyone think anything that happens in the WWE is a work?

But to make a serious comment in this thread. Shocked is the only way you could describe my mood at the moment. This guy has been a staple of the WWE for years now, and it's going to be really weird to sit in front of a SmackDown episode and not see him on it.
The guy has come so far. I honestly thought the WWE had missed the boat with him when he got injured in 2003, but he's gone from strength to strength since then. The Rated R Superstar gimmick seemed to light a fuse in him and it made him one of the most recognizable wrestlers on the whole roster. The whole situation just seems so... surreal.

Wow. So sad. So, he's done competing? Did he drop the title or something?

I'm in shock. The WWE hasn't done a whole lot in the last few years to shock me. I'm sad that this is one of them. If it is a work, its both insulting and dare I say it,creative ,enough to build a dramatic angle if there isn't a major backlash from it. But I think I'm just suffering from wishful thinking. I do believe its real. Thank you Edge. Its been a very entertaining and fun ride since 98.

Why does everyone think anything that happens in the WWE is a work? Because most of the time it is. There have been about a zillion fake retirements so it's natural to be skeptical. I still think it's a work. To me, the speech didn't seem all that emotional. I felt like it was extremely rehearsed and the wrestler lineup seemed like a setup. I mean, I doubt Yoshi Tatsu and Edge are good buddies. Yoshi is like the go-to guy when it comes to congratulatig fake retirees. Like I said before, you would think they would have made it a bigger deal if it was legit.

Wow. So sad. So, he's done competing? Did he drop the title or something? Friday he is. Does anyone think he is done with wwe or you think the door is open for him to do something in a non wrestling compacity. How awesome would it be to have him be the GM. Just a thought/

Why does everyone think anything that happens in the WWE is a work? Mostly due to the WWE's staunch record of honesty, tastefulness, and decorum, even on the most serious of topics.
