Why do people actually think this isn't just WWE being WWE? Yea, I find it weird that only a couple of us think it's a work. If history tells us anything, it's that the WWE loves a good fake retirement angle. I will say that this one seemed more believable than most, but I would imagine they would be able to refine this type of storyline pretty well after doing it a thousand times. We'll see on Smackdown, but I think there was too little fanfare for this to be legit.

I am going to miss him alot, as, like a few has said in this thread, I been watching Edge since his WWE debut back in 1998. So glad I got to see him live a few times as he has always been one of my favorites.
Thank you Edge.

I really am still in shock over this. I mean I've known for the last few years (I think we all have) that Edge was closer to the end of his career rather than even the middle...but this is just too soon!
I honestly and truly am sad over this. To see a great wrestler go away so fast and in the way he has to go is just not right. I wish I could thank Edge personally for all the entertainment he's provided me over the last 14+ years. He is one of those guys I never got "sick of" and never would have predicted his success. However I am so proud and happy for what that guy has become and what his career turned out to be.
I don't want to see him hanging around in some lackluster role like a "GM" or something silly. If he's done, he's done. It really is a black day in wrestling history. and damn I'm going to miss hearing that theme every week!

I'm sad for him that his career had to end like that, obviously nobody wants to see that happen for him, and it's a huge loss for WWE as well, as he was one of the last legit and dependable guys left.
But I'm glad he got the news before something happened. I love these guys, but not so much that I want them to work through injuries and risk their health and later life for my entertainment.
I don't want to see Edge paralyzed....I don't want to see Undertaker in a wheelchair and not able to life his arm above his shoulder.....it's not worth it.
I'd rather these guys retire early than hang on too long and end up in pain for their entire lives....because even the lucky ones who don't retire due to a career threatening injury are going to be in some kind of pain for the rest of their lives anyway.
It's a tough business and you really gotta respect guys who break their necks and love the business so much that they come back. Edge broke his neck 8 years ago and he came back and looking at his last match at Wrestlemania, you'd never even know he was ever injured.
I respect Edge, he was always entertaining, and it's just a disappointing way for his in ring career to end....but he's got a whole world of opportunities ahead of him and I hope he gets his health issues under control and enjoys whatever comes next in his life.

I'm still in shock as of right now, and I'll admit I almost shed a tear watching his promo. Just seeing him get all emotional was sad and upsetting. I've been watching him since he first debuted, but I'll admit I didn't become a fan of his until the Edge and Christian era. It's definitely going to be weird without seeing Edge anymore. I'm just very glad he was able to call it quits before his injury got worse and left him paralyzed. I'll miss seeing this guy.

As has been said hundreds of times by now, this is such a horrible shame. I had read in several places that Edge had been hinting at retirement for a year or two, but I'm sure not even he could foresee it taking place under these circumstances.
The good, of course, is that his deteriorating condition was picked up on in time to save his quality of life... possibly his very life itself. The bad is that, obviously we would all like Edge to have been around as a performing talent for a MUCH longer time. Selfish as it is, I hate to see him go.
I am deeply saddened by this news. WWE will never be the same without Mr. Copeland. He is an inspiration to me. Thank you Adam "Edge" Copeland. For everything.
The Rated R Era lives on!!

As I said in the RAW thread, really just a bizarre turn of events. It was reported that Edge would be retiring sooner rather than later, but for it to happen so suddenly with no news leaking was really surprising. I really thought it was a work all the way up until Del Rio never came out to attack him or anything.
Pretty shocking stuff. Another WWF original bites the dust. Triple H, Taker, Rock, Edge, Trish and Austin have now all left TV permanently/ long-term within the last week, gotta be a huge blow to the WWE. I'm glad Edge knew when to get out and didn't keep pushing the envelope on his health if his neck was really that bad. Still a sad ending to his career, though, for sure.

I was there at the show and honestly I can say I was completely in shock and I still am. Did not see this coming at all...this deserved an end of the show send off though...not sending him on at 10:12 to spill his guys. He deserved more than this.

I still can't believe he's really retiring. I hope he enjoys his retirement and that his health gets better.

Wasn't it reported last year that Edge said he will be retiring this year or 2012 anyway?
Now that i've let it sink in I just don't believe it still. I mean, I would of much preferred it if they had done a buildup for his retirement at say, viewers choice. I mean, they could of said it was for viewers choice and then change it to an Edge appreciation night. Hopefully he will still have some appearances here and there like HBK Did.

If this is legit, he should go into the Hall of Fame next year, or maybe they'd save it for Toronto.
