Okay, I have been a long time collector of wrestling figures , I am 38 years old and proud to admit it. I love collecting figures, I love going to Toys R Us, Target, and Wal-Mart to look through the shelves. I have collected LJN, Hasbro, Jakks, OSTM, Justtoys , and almost everything else.
I have to admit , I am disappointed with Mattel, the distribution of their product is terrible, their selection of "Legends" and their attire is awful, They seem to be very slow on the release of new superstars, I understand that Jakks had years of experience, but they seem very slow at releasing new superstars, and don't get me started on the "LEGENDS" line...............................TERRIBLE ( love the figures and the characters, but please let the distribution be better, and have some more figures coming soon).

They are releasing plenty of new superstars.
Do we have to get into this again about the people in the Legends series actually being legends or not?
The Legends line is terrible not because of the figures or the characters in which you said the attires were awful earlier but because of the distribution. That has nothing to do with the quality of the line.
Distribution is up to the retailer. Mattel doesn't ship to each individual store.

i would have liked different attire for some of the Legends figures myself, but i think they are pretty good for the most part.

No it has nothing to do with the retailers, mattels distribution system is notoriously bad, just ask any dc universe or motu collector from before mattel even had the wwe lineup...I echo everything the first poster said here, sure mattels figures are much better detailed, but to me they lack "personality", basics are just that, BASIC and boring...the elites and legends are amazing figures but with not enough assortments and taking forever to get new characters or attires, and when there is new stuff it being impossible to find, collecting them isn't any fun! Atleast jakks figs had a new assortment or something (ra, ad, da, classics) out every week or every other week, I always had something to hunt

id rather wait longer for better more accurate figures rather than have mattel rush them out like jakks did. basically jakks half assed the product to get as much money as possible in in short space of time.

Mattel is very bad with the distribution of all their products, DC universe, MOTU 2000 series, WWE as stores are skipping sets. The only down side to this is that everything hits at one time when you don't expect it

Distribution may be bad, but their figures are excellent. But, like Mirror Images said..."I'd rather wait longer for better more accurate figures rather than have mattel rush them out like Jakks did"
I honestly don't think their figures could be better. I just picked up a Bam Bam yesterday, and it's looks just like a mini replica of him.

I honestly don't think their figures could be better. I just picked up a Bam Bam yesterday, and it's looks just like a mini replica of him. The only way these figures can look any better is if the entire action figure toy industry moves towards those fully articulated skeletal frames. Not sure if you guys saw some Mattel reveals on Attack of the Show where they previewed Swamp Thing monster - fully articulated, but it's "skin" covered over all the articulation so there's no eye-soars when it comes to joints. I guess whenever that becomes standard toy construction we'd get absolutely perfect mini replicas.

Their quality control sucks lately. It's my biggest complaint, and it's becoming tiresome to find figures that don't have paint job mistakes and smudges that I have to clean off. I can only imagine what that is like for MOC collectors trying to find a perfect figure. Ordering online is a bigger gamble now than ever, and with the distribution issues I have largely turned to online, it's a double edge sword.
As far as the Legends attires, it has to factor into the poor sales imo. Slaughter with camo would probably have sold better, and Dusty in NWA attire is sort of a maybe or maybe not for me, I would have greatly preferred NWA personally. Legends 2 didn't have an anchor superstar and early on they weren't short packing the cases, but I think they have taken care of that problem and we will see far less peg warming moving forward.
Stores definitely over ordered. Legends 2 was way over ordered pretty much everywhere that I have seen and there is no denying that the Legends 2 packs at TRU being over ordered pretty much buried the line, I think price point was a factor as well with those 2packs.
I understand both sides. I definitely understand the gripes but on the business side Mattel has to make money, which they have stated has really been a struggle with the Legends line so far. I just tend to think, outside of quality control lately, that Mattel is doing a lot of things right to sort of correct the direction of all their WWE lines.

I'm turning 30 this year but I still love my figures! I bought a few Jakks figures back then but sold them all because I didn't like them, they were cheap, bad details and not proportional. Mattels have their flaws but are way superior than Jakks.

I am 38 years old as well, and I disagree with everything CC wrote. Mattel has blown away every company who has made wrestling figures in the past. It isn't even close really. I honestly don't understand the poor distribution complaints. I live in Mukwonago, WI. It's about 20 minutes southwest of Milwaukee. I have found every DC Universe, and Mattel WWE figure at retail. Have I just been that lucky? I sincerely doubt it.

Joe I collected from about the time the Hasbro figures came out to just a few years ago. I was amazed at the figures Jakks put out in the classic line but now with Mattel wish I hadn't bought the Jakks figures. Jakks was around for a long time and still put out mistakes and terrible figures like the Mark Henry in thong Royal Rumble figure. They should no better. Mattel had put out some awesome figures in their legends line. The 2 packs could have been better, we saw all those guys in Jakks and there's aren't much different but the singles are generally very awesome. Jakks series 1 started off with some big names-Bret, Shawn, Hunter, Andre, Taker and Warrior. Didn't Andre feature two straps? Come on, how famous was Andre and didn't Undertaker have purple gloves and grey straps on his boots? Two of the most famous wrestlers and their outfits were wrong. Mattel series 1 featured Road Warrior, Slaughter, Austin, Steamboat (who so many were wanting to see and he came with Dragon and robe) and Dusty. Dusty was similar to the Jakks exclusive, Austin could have been done without but otherwise they were good. Not much of a big bang unless Steamboat counts. Still, for a first line of wrestling figures by Mattel it was pretty nice. Jakks made a Hawk in similar Road Warrior outfit but we never got an Animal, only an Animal in LOD 2000 gear which there were many of. Jakks' Slaughter came with a lot better outfit and accessories but Slaughter was famous for the one Mattel gave him in the early 1980s. The outfits were all accurate by Mattel. Jakks series 2 gave Flair, Dude Love, Mankind, Animal Steele, Slaughter, and Studd. Flair came with a nice robe, Mankind with removeable mask, Steele had a variant with real chest hair. Mattel's Steele came with a shirt, real chest hair and a mine doll. Mattel series 2 was Kamala with almost every accessory imagineable, only missing a spear. Much better than Jakks's Kamala that had Yokozuna/Samoans' legs with the legs painted with the feat socks and the bottom part of the pants ended. Another poor mistake by Jakks, why not just paint the entire part skin color, it would've been easier and more accurate. Also featured Rude with short hair and he came with a robe. Jakks made a Rick Martel in pink outfit with long hair, just a repaint featuring long hair that he had short when wearing it. If Jakks made Rude with his Summer slam 90 outfit they may have given Rude long hair. Terry Funk with accessories, Jimmy Snuka with robe not featured on Jakks' Snuka, Jake Roberts and Iron Sheik with robe were also in the set. Jakks' series 3 already went with the repaints with Bret, Warrior and a Taker that was produced in a Jakks' series several years before. They also had Ted Dibiase, Jake, and Snuka. Mattel series 3 featured Mr. Perfect, Bulldog with vest, Vader with two removeable masks and robe though not the bull helmet Jakks made or a cloth outfit. Both Jakks and Mattel went all out on their Vader figure. Rock with shirt, Pillman with vest and Duggan with flad and 2x4 were also in the series. Jakks' Duggan didn't have a flag. Their Mr. Perfect's were about the same. Jakks series 4 featured Yokozuna, Roddy Piper, Hillbilly (about the same as Mattel's), Junkyard Dog, Tito Santana and Duggan. Mattel featured series 4 with Demolition with amazing vest and wrist pad accessories unlike the little plastic vests with painted studs Jakks' had. Both lines featured great masks though. Paul Orndorff had a robe. I think Jakks' series 5 had a robe. George Steele came as mentioned earlier. Hillbilly was about the same. Also had an Ultimate Warrior that was similar to one Jakks released. Jakks series 5 had Sheik, Volkoff with cloth hat and shirt, Bundy with cloth singlet, Funk, Beefcake with shears and cloth robe, and Orndorff. Mattel series 5 featured only four wrestlers but all amazing. Bigelow came with a jacket, Jakks was rather plain although Bigelow didn't wear a jacket at the time he wore the Jakks outfit. Martel came with arrogance spray, glasses and jacket. Jakks' only came with a towel. Macho Man, another long awaited figure came with a cloth old school t-shirt, Akeem came with removeable yellow shirt unlike Jakks which only had the hat accessory. Mattel series six is so-so, to me, featuring Eddie Guerrero who has had many figures by Jakks, Warrior again, but the Von Erich's and Kerry as Texas Tornado. Not much selection in this set but Von Erich's had been awaited if I remember. Jakks featured a lot of wrestlers in their series 6-Legion of Doom, Earthquake with cloth singlet, Andre, Heenan, Koko, Michaels, One Man Gang and Doink. Jakks series 1 tag teams featured three of the very best with Hart Foundation, Rockers and Legion of Doom while Mattel's featured Bushwhackers (almost the same as Jakks'), Piper and Orton and Sheik and Volkoff (almost the same jacket and outfit as Jakks' three pack with Sheik, Volkoff and Bundy. I just wanted to compare both series classics and legends. Both Jakks and Mattel gave some great figures but at this point in series 6 I think Mattel may have put a little more effort into it than Jakks.

nothing that dude who made this thread said is true. mattel is doing a damn good job with the figures honestly they made the best wwe figures ever. jakks sucked majorly bc the scales and quality wasnt there every figure had same body. also its smart mattel dont flood retailers with every release at once bc they would lose out on so much money. lets be real majority of buyers arent gonna spend hundreds of dollars on wrestling figures every week bc they have bigger priorities in life to tend to then toys. long as the kids happy with releases instead of some 38 yr old thats all that matters. keep doing a great job mattel.

Okay, let me clarify myself, I really love Mattel's style of figures , they are awesome figures, and I don't mind the outfit selection of legends that much . My main complaint is that I can not find their figures anywhere. I go to 2 Toy's R us, 3 Targets, 3 Wal-Marts, and 4 Meijer stores in my area frequently and I can not find anything new. I am a huge collector of DC universe, JLU, Infinite Heroes, Action League, and I am mostly disappointed with the selection around my area, I never had any problem finding Jakks figures. I have giant holes in my collections of DCUC ( Gentleman Ghost, Walmart wave 5, etc), I also have to order many of the WWE legends from online retailers, have not seen them in any store except the 1 Kmart we have here.
So in short , I know I am a whining baby, I have a business I run, a wife and 3 kids, I should worry about other things than plastic figures, but it is my outlet and I enjoy it. Sorry to offend anyone.

Apparently the bigger priorities that need tended to don't include grammar. To say that the original poster's OPINION is wrong is just silly. He makes a good point about the spotty distribution.

Sorry but the OP is right. Totally right.
Personally speaking I quite enjoy the figures assortments and especially the detailing Big step up, they are doing everything right in that department. The team are a bunch of nice, dedicated guys whom I've spoken with on a few occasions.
But, especially lately... Finding these things is just god awful. It's a JOKE. It makes me angry that's how bad it is. NO excuse.
I live in NYC, guess what happens when I walk into the largest TRU in the world in times square which has in the largest wrestling corner in any retail store? I can have my choice of any Elite series 2 Cody Rhodes I want. Or legends series 2 iron sheik.
But I waited patiently for elite 3. Never came. Elite 4 and legends three did come for about a week, gone and never to return. Elite 5? Nope. Elite 6? Nope. Legends 5 or 6? Yeah right.
What about basics? Well they got lots from the Beth Phoenix wave but if you're lucky you can still pick up a John cent from the wade barret wave. But JUST John cens. Maybe kofi.
What about k mart and wwe's ultimate partnership? Well if you go to herald square k mart you will find a finlay or two . Hey I guess it's better than TRU where you can get an Elite Cody Rhodes series 2. Or seventy eight of them.
Now I'm behind and it pisses me off... So I go to order three measly figures last night from ringside, who is based in new York mind you, Macho and Bam Bam from series 6 and the new Miz elite and my total with shipping comes to 70 bucks?.. What the hell?
No new news in awhile... It makes me worried Mattel has killed this line.
It's a big shame if you ask me, it really killed the buzz I had going for this line, now buying the figures is a chore and a guilt trip because I can never find them and have to order them from ringside and overpay about two times as much.
