The Wrestling Observer is reporting that last week's WWE Smackdown taping in Toledo, OH, was one of the worst attended WWE events in recent history as it drew 3,200 fans with only 1,600 of them being paid audience members. A correspondent for WZ attended the tapings live, and sent us in a photo of the tarped off side of the Huntington Center, which you can view if you CLICK HERE. WWE reportedly only sold tickets on the camera side of the arena to give the impression that the building was full for the tapings. Matt Bishop, a columnist for the SLAM! Wrestling, had the following to say about the taping: "Tuesday's tapings of WWE Smackdown, Superstars and NXT wasn't notable because of what happened in the ring, but rather because of what was happening outside the ringside area. Or more appropriately, what wasn't happening. Toledo's second WWE show of 2011, this time at Huntington Center, was notable because of the lack of fans inside the facility, with almost all of the camera side tarped off, along with a large part of the upper bowl, including all of the seats in the end zone."

That is very sad.
They should just not go there since they obviously can't sell many tickets.
so if they had 3k+ but only 1,600 bought tickets who were the lucky people who got in for free and how the hell can you get that deal?

Anyone know what the worst attended wrestling event since the Attitude Era was? I assume that's what the article meant by recent history.

I guess Toledo can say bye bye to seeing live WWE events. 1,600? That is f'n terrible.

When I went to Smackdown earlier this summer at Mohegan Sun it was simliar in attendance. Super small arena with most of the upper deck taped off. On the contrary the night before I went to Raw in Boston and it was packed to the ceiling. It's all about the town it's in. You can't expect a dense crowd from a major US city to show up to one of these more rurally located arenas. WWE is a big draw and this was just a case of small town, not a lot of fans.

Smackdown doesn't air live, it's taped, and the picture that everyone is referring to was taken DURING THE TAPING! Those seats aren't empty because the taping hasn't started yet, they're empty because they have been blocked off since no one has bought them!

What they said. It's absolutely shocking... And it worries me a little. I'll be at Raw October 3rd and it will obviously be sold out. It's Raw. But not only that, where I live, it always sells out. But looking at this is extremely awkward. The seats are tarped down. They don't just remove tarps 30 minutes before the saw. They tarp it off beforehand due to lack of ticket sales.

OMG Can you imagine how it must feel to be a guy like Orton or Christian for that matter. Or any other big name, and know that "your show" sold that terribly? damn, that would get me down, but I guess you have to keep moving.

Again, its really sad to see the attendance like that. The RAW after Over the Limit in 2010 was at the same place and it sold out. It definately brought down the event as a whole. and I wanna say it was because lack of star power. I doubt they get another television taping anytime soon

That sucks. I've been going to every WWE event here in Cleveland since 1998 and the attendance has been slowly going down here too.
Not nearly THAT bad (Toledo pic)...but still bad.

I wish that this makes the WWE realize that Orton being the World Champion is not what SmackDown! needs.

I've been to a SmackDown taping like this and it's extremely awkward wtaching the show with tarps in the background.
