His team and my team are tied for the worst active streaks in the NHL. 4 losses in a row. Shockingly enough, the Hawks are only 2 points off of Vancouver. That's because the Hurricanes have improved from being terrible to just inconsistent Just thank your stars none of our teams are playing like the Oilers (who I also have to cheer for given my hometown and such) dropping 12 of their last 16 Well the Oilers are part of our losing streak (yeah, we were one of those 4 they won). Also, did anyone else see interference with every other Detroit check in the 3rd period? Dear lord, they even got away with a blatant push in front of Crawford's ing net which led to a goal because Crawford got tangled up (last I checked, pushing a guy to the ice when he has his back to the agitator isn't legal), not to mention too many men AND interference in the last few seconds of that OT. Shoddy officiating EVERYWHERE in sports lately.

I've been meaning to get back into hockey as of late. What are some important things to know right now, as far as major players for teams, etc.? I haven't followed it in a while but am trying to again.

I haven't followed it in a while but am trying to again. The Rangers are seemingly unstoppable at this point, the Bruins are putting the hurt on every single team they play, the Jets are in the hunt for the playoffs and the Panthers, Lightning and the Penguins have fallen absolutely apart.

This season has been one surprising season.
With all the concussions, Crosby out, Ovie losing his touch, Jets are actually winning, Pens' collapse, Ron Wilson still keeping his job with the Leafs, Panthers in 3rd, and Kessel (tied with Giroux @ 2nd) leading the NHL in points.
It's quite scary to be honest with yah, but it is nice to have a change every once in a while.

Shoddy officiating EVERYWHERE in sports lately. Welcome to Detroit's world when they play in/against Chicago! Now dont get me wrong, Detroit arent saints, but listening to the complaints that Chicago fans have over that game is laughable considering what Chicago has gotten away with in the past. Like the Bulls--t goalie interference calls in the last game alongside an iffy penalty shot there. Or the game last year where Chicago needed to win to make the Playoffs, and Detroit not getting one powerplay despite the Mule being high-sticked and bleeding. Or this little gem from a few years ago... Besides, fans complaining how "hosed" there team got despite having yet another penalty shot (which was deserved this time) alongside five powerplays to Detroit's two, again, is laughable. Rant aside, the officiating is horrible during Detroit/Chicago games Ill admit, whether is be in Detroit's favor or Chicago's, its bad. Last night, Detroit did get away with a few calls, but Chicago did too, it goes both ways. Something needs to be done about officiating, league-wise. These referees are horrible no matter team is playing. Side-note, I wish NBC would not allow Eddie Olczyk to call Chicago games on NBC anymore, especially against Detroit. The guy is complete homer and it is so damn obvious it hurts. He isnt so bad in some games, but against Detroit he sucks. And as for the Marchand suspension, I agree. It was an obvious intent to injure Salo. Good call by Shanny

He isnt so bad in some games, but against Detroit he sucks. It doesn't matter who it is. If your primary job is calling games for a certain team on a local network, you should not call games for that team on a national network. As for the whole thing with refs, yes. I mean, the Wings and Hawks play each other, what, 6 times a year? Bound to be more than a few bad calls. It's only a shame that they might change the result of a game.

I somewhat agree with the commentators. Doc is the New Jersey play-by-play guy but he is one of the most unbiased announcers I have seen. A guy like Ken Daniels could do national games but a guy like Mickey Redmond really wouldnt lol It just depends on the announcers. I do completely agree about the referee's. It seems whenever Detroit and Chicago play the calls favor one team depending on what the home team is. Which is sad considering how amazing the hockey games between the Hawks and Wings are. Regardless of the game sunday, its one game. Hopefully the officiating will be better saturday.

Marchand gets 5 games for his hit on Salo. Thoughts? He deserves it. I love the hipchecks, that wasn't a hipcheck. The one thing that I get annoyed is the amount of fines; they're like parking tickets for NHL players. You saw Kobe get fined $100,000 in NBA for calling somebody a homosexual while the same thing happens in NHL, you get a measly $2,500 fine. The League is slowly working on this.

And as for the commentators, it should be mutual. This isn't professional wrestling. I understand that if one of the commentators works for that team, then at least be respectful towards the other team.

Marchand gets 5 games for his hit on Salo. Thoughts? I love Brad Marchand, and I'm the biggest Bruins homer on this planet. With that being said, the hit was way too low, and it resulted in an injury. You can't play like that. 10 seconds prior to the clipping, it shows Salo and Marchand in the same exact position along the boards, and Marchand goes shoulder to shoulder with him. It wasn't like Salo was flying at him either, he wasn't going to crush him. It was dumb and I feel like it cost them the game. With all that out of the way...Ballard did the same thing to Campbell in the second period. Got low and shot his hips into his knees. Not even a penalty called on the play.

I know for years that you've been pretty damn loyal to the B's - that statement that you just made? You're a very VERY mature Bruins fan that I ever met, seriously. Other B's fans that I've talked to about this hit, so immature. I agree with you in every aspect of the hit. I've met alot of hockey fans, and man some of them are just very, well, how do we say it? Idiots.

Not to mention that I had a heated debate about Team Canada vs Team Russia. So hockey can be pretty heated these days, hah.

Of course fattic's the most mature Booins fan you've ever talked to. She's a woman...she has that thing called common sense that most hockey fans, mostly being men, tend not to have.

Wings yet again dont take the Islanders seriously and lose 5-1 No Pavel and only playing 11 fowards didnt help, but we definately should have beat them. Hopefully we play alot better against Phoenix.

Didn't exactly fall asleep in the third, but definitely started dozing off. Luckily Bob was able to bail the defense out when it was needed. It's also pretty re-assuring when the rookies can pick up on the goal scoring too.

I haven't followed it in a while but am trying to again. Lots of concussions. SHANAHAMMER (Or Shanaban, idk what the nickname is) Somehow the Panthers and Sens are in the top 5 Anaheim, Tampa, Carolina, NYI, Columbus all suck a lot Steven Stamkos <3 More suspensions Flyers and Rangers hate each other Boston and Rangers are best teams in the league (imo) Bruins are a friggin +68 Lots of surprising teams in the playoffs/in the playoff hunt Suspensions.
