I feel like they'll suspend him for it, at least for 1 game. After everything else that's happened around the league this season thus far, to NOT suspend him for a game would be crazy. It would be looked at as favoritism...right? We'll just have to wait and see. I've read before that Thomas has really strong political views, and I'm guessing that he probably didn't want to go to the White House because he doesn't support the Obama Administration. I'm not big into politics, but I think he should have just swallowed his pride for the day and went with the team. That's what I hate about politics. I don't talk about it. There's no need to talk about it to start a debate. Thomas should just went, he didn't have to do anything but take a picture. The media will play this up. As for Ovechkin, yeah. If it's one game, he's back at the All Star Game anyway. I wouldn't be surprised if it's a fine though.

Classless of Thomas if you ask me. But I'm a biased fan who supports the most hated team in the NHL, so what do I know?

From TSN.ca
I'm surprised that they're allowing him to be in the All-Star Game even. Even Ovie is on my favourite team, I don't think this is the way to go. NHL is thinking about money before safety once again. Tsk tsk.

But I'm disappointed that Zbynek Michalek didn't get either though. His hit was worse than Ovi. Michalek's hit was from behind, with a charging motion and the elbow to the back of Hendricks' head. Wow. Screwy. Way to go Shanny!

Its not classless of Thomas, its just stupid. You could hate Obama, hate black people for all you want, but how often are you invited to the White House? I mean come on, show support with your team.
I am sorry, I lost some respect for him today. Great goalie, kinda a dick though

Yep. I like Thomas, I do. But.. that was completely disrespectful. I'm sure many other players went to meet Bush that didn't like him. Very selfish, i mean the guy was the MVP and Obama even talked about him.

Thanks to a Hurricanes win, the Sabres are now the worst team in the east.
Fail for Nail!

The Trade Deadline - Who will be moved? I see Zach Parise from Devils getting moved. Signing Kovy was a big mistake.

He always seemed like a decent, regular guy, an underdog people rooted for. Now he's gonna be the Glenn Beck lover who snubbed the President. He's made his bed and now he gets to lie in it - I hope he thinks it's worth it, proving whatever point he proved.

Lots of rumbling surrounding Zach Parise from the Devils. Apparently, Devils can't afford him and NHL is forcing the Devils to trade him or let him go (end of season). Glad to see that the Kings is laughing all the way to the bank, not signing Kovy and screwing up the salary cap.
Parise is the most covet player at the deadline, he's a beast.
I can see Kings and Devils working out a trade, perhaps Bernier/Player/Pick for Parise. It would make sense for both teams, Devils needs a long-term goalie. LA has two good goalies.

And Ovechkin has opted out of the All Star Game this weekend according to GMGM. (General Manager Geroge McPhee)
It doesn't matter anyway, All Star Game is a joke anyway. Everybody only watch the Skills competition. It's Road Hockey vs Real Hockey.

Opted out? Why? Is he trying to get back at the NHL for suspending him? It's definitely exciting to watch him out there every year, especially at the skills comp. Wish he was playing.

I'm not really sure why he didn't do the ASG. The ASG is optional though. I do remember a couple years back where the NHL suspended a couple of Red Wings players for not showing up.

So, Jonathon Toews(27 goals, 2nd highest in NHL behind Stamkos) is on IR. Coach Quenville called it "procedural," expects both he and Sharp(also injured since the 8th, 20 goals on the year for him) to travel with the team post All-Star break.
That's good news for the Hawks. They could be 4th in their division with a loss tonight. That is despite the fact that they have 64 points, higher than Vancouver's(currently ranked 2nd in the NHL) total. I'm going out on a limb and calling the Central the toughest division in hockey.

I guess it's good that Ovie got that suspension. He's always taken some rather cheap shots over the years, and it's good to see that Shanny is finally doing something about it.

Six withdrawals, all with very valid reasons.

I can agree with Ovi on that one. He doesn't deserve to be there if he's suspended.

Believe I know it was Pav and Lids, every Wings fan was upset that they got a suspension for something as stupid as not going to the All-Star game. I know Pavel also was playing with through a hip injury at the time and needed the time off. Now I doubt anyone is going to be suspended again, because now players can tell the league that they dont wanna go before the release the rosters (ex. Selanne and Lidstrom). Pretty ridiculous suspension in 2009 if you ask me.
