What are some of your opinions on the finish of the first Mattel Legends polls?
I myself was marking out that Elizabeth was on it, such a huge fan of hers. When she was one of the winning five, i was even happier.
But i find the other 4 to be very underwhelming personally.
1. DDP. Not interested in NWA Mid Atlantic/ WCW guys at all right now. I'd only buy WCCW guys like the Von Erich's. Other than that, i'm a WWF Golden Age guy.
2. Arn/Tully If these are Brain Busters figures than count me in, they will go great with the Rockers. I just wouldn't have wanted them so soon.
3. Bundy. I do like Bundy but honestly again, just too early for me. The lack of Hogan makes alot of these heels meaningless to me tbh.
I would have preferred JYD and Snuka over all 4 of these guys. I loved the first Snuka in his 92 gear, love obscure WWF stuff.
JYD is one of my all time favorites. Loved his style, his promos, and his headbutts. I'm not ashamed to say i had some butthurt when he lost lol. Especially to DDP. I was hoping nothing pre 1995 would be in the lines tbh.
On a side note, one easy guy for Mattel to sign that i really want is Koko B Ware!
All of this is subjective depending on what you collect. Thoughts?

1. DDP - Only one a voted for, going to get it, great time period. Awesome. Very tired of the "golden era" of people getting made. More Attitude Era, WCW, ECW attention PLEASE. Stop with the Hulk Hogan era if you can't even make the main star yet.
2. Tully and Arn - Big waste to me. If they were worried about figures not selling this has to be their biggest fear. Plus again, can't make the biggest star that goes with them yet: Ric Flair.
3.Bundy - Don't care. Again, if you want Wrestlemania 2...no Hogan.
I would have got the Snuka figure, bare foot and tights, and Doink the Clown due to spanning multiple eras from occasional appearances. Plus it would make for a great colorful figure. On the same note I want that Gobbedy Gooker figure, and I'll throw Repoman out there also.
Elizabeth could look so many different ways, I'll have to see what they go with.

ill keep it brief. Andre: pumped for this, hes a true legend and a must have for any collector. arn and tully: i liked the brainbusters as a kid but im not dying for these figures. ill get them but really for no other reason than they will be released. ddp:meh, i might get it, was never a huge fan of his and at ringside it looked ok. bundy: PASS, not interested, a guy from the golden era when i started watching but just a boring wrestler who was only around a short period of time and had 1 important match in history... liz: must have no matter what.
personally i would have liked to see some bigger stars as options. i feel like we got a check list of mid carders. how about honky, camo slaughter, razor, NAO, there are guys from all eras that were bigger stars than some of the people on the list.

I put all my eggs in the Barry Windham basket. I mostly voted just for him, cause I was hoping/praying he'd win. Hopefully we get one some day soon.

DDP.. don't really like the proto and thought there were a ton of people I would have rather had
King Kong Bundy...Can't wait for this figure Mattel is gonna make him awesome, a true legend
Tully/Arn - Love these guys 2 of the best "wrestlers" ever. No collection would be complete without them, really looking forward to getting them.
Elizabeth...didn't vote for her but she is wayyy overdue for a figure and now that we have Savage it will be a perfect display piece.

DDP- Didn't vote for him. Would have liked Barry Windham, JYD or Don Muraco in this spot, but I'll get him, because I collect everyone.
Arn & Tully- Looking forward to how they turn out. I don't care if they're in Brain Busters or Horsemen form, can't wait for them!
King Kong Bundy- I know Mattel will do this figure justice. The Jakks one was too fat in my opinion.
Elizabeth- Must have for sure. Would've like to seen her in a two pack with Macho Man, but hey, after all this time, we'll get a figure so I'm happy.

I think Mattel should go back and give us:
1. LOD in their red gear 2. Sgt Slaughter in camo gear 3. British Bulldog in his 1990-1992 look
And quit giving us guys in plain attire just because Jakks' CS line made them a certain way already.

Why does everybody want a Slaughter in camo? That is not iconic whatsoever to me. Having grown up on the WWF and having studied it's whole run available on home video, came wasnt very inconic.
He formed a team with Duggan first in the camo, after that jobs to up and coming superstars.
The tights and singlet was when he was a force in wrestling. AWA and the fued with Sheik. He wore the blue tights againist the Sheik in MSG!!!!!
Thats iconic. Camos was the equivelent of the tights Snuka.

i am uber happy to be getting ANDRE THE GIANT which is a must have... feel the Same about ELIZABETH and words cant describe how happy i will be to pose her figure with one of my MACHO MAN Mattels..
Arn & Tully is kinda cool since i loved their wwf run, and when i first started wrestling i studied alot of their work with the rockers..5 star tag matches..
could care less for ddp and bundy.. bundy bored me, and i respect ddp's hard work, but i never was a fan of his..
i hoped for a doink since he would have looked cool and i worked him back in 01 ( ray apollo ) then i wanted the farooq figure as i enjoyed ron simmons alot and a Nation Of Domination display one day would look cool.. i was a big fan of that faction, and they could have done soo much more and gotten soooo much more heel heat.. i though ron simmons could have been the first black wwf champion.. great heel.. instead of fightin bikers and spanish guys!!..
i really hope Honky Tonk Man is done for 2013 line-up.. or a flashback sooner.. as well as Brutus The Barber Beefcake.. those two are my top wants for a Mattel Legend. and i think most of you would agree with me....
atleast we have the chance to get som more legends via basic heritage waves.. and one or 2 ringside exl. and possibly legends 2 packs whereever they might b sold...
really stinks about DM.. although i kno we could have gotten them in legends waves for ten bucks cheaper.. i just am really nervous about the intial line up and that LOW SALES could ruin the future.. i have a feeling ROCKERS and ANDRE will sell Well.. but i almost am sure arn, tully, ddp & bundy will do poorly...
sum1 let me kno this.. was a basic wave (after the one with layla) shown at ringside fest.. if so what was it???

Sure he was "a force" in the early 80s with the white and blue, but everybody remembers Camo/olive green. To me (and apparently everyone else) Camo was expected and what we got was obscure (hence why they are peg warming).

To be honest, out of all the choices...
Andre I am fine with. It's a great figure and well deserved. He should have gotten a spot in the regular Legends line, probably would have helped the line overall.
DDP...I like DDP, one of my "sleeper" favs. How cool or uncool his Legends figure will be depends on the accessories released with him. There are other guys I would have rather seen.
Tully/Arn/Bundy I was absolutely SHOCKED they won the poll. Regardless of how good or bad their respective Jakks Classics were...there were so many other guys in that poll deserving of a figure (Magnum, Windham, hell even Savio Vega) especially the ones like Magnum & Savio who never had a proper figure made of them at all!
Either way, at $20 a pop plus shipping these Legends better blow us out of the water with detail, accessories & proper part choices or they can kiss my business goodbye.

Sgt Slaughter headlined a Wrestlemania . . . against Hulk Hogan . . . as the defending heavyweight champ!! . . . wearing camo. He's on the promotional poster in camo. How can anything is wrestling be more iconic than that?! EDIT: He beat the flippin Ultimate Warrior -- in camo -- to get the title. EDIT 2: And the dude drove around in a camouflaged limo!!!!

The poll was a big mistake to begin with. They should have set it up correctly where people couldn't abuse it.
DDP/Liz - The only two that won that I voted for. I'm a bit disappointed in DDP's scan but I'll still buy it and I'm sure Liz will look great. I see both of these being great sellers as well. DDP has a good size fan base and it's in his WCW attire which the majority wanted. Liz has been wanted since Jakks had the line and I think she will do just fine selling.
Bundy/Arn/Tully - Not interested in any of the three personally. I also see these guys as being the the death of the legends line. Sure there's a few people here that want them but they won't appeal to anyone else outside that. Especially with these going for a higher price point than retail it's just going to be really bad. I can see it now Mattel is going to be stuck with a bunch of these and will want nothing to do with continuing to make legends figures after this. Than they will blame us and say how it's our fault we picked them in the poll and nobody bought them.
I was really hoping Doink, Crush & Faarooq would have been the others to win the poll.

As for the topic at hand: I will buy all of them because I want them all. I was happy that Savio Vega didn't make it. I mean I watched this guy's entire WWF career and never thought he was anything more than Razor Ramon's buddy from the streets. He was nothing to me. Even with all the figures we already have, he still hasn't cracked my top 100 most wants.
I would rather see Mattel correct some mistakes and give us some main eventers / former world champions before we get middle-carders. I do want a camo Sarge, barefoot Snuka, Elite Million Dollar Man, LOD (not Road Warriors), Elite early Undertaker, Elite early HBK (Rocker Shawn is not HBK. HBK was a different gimmick with a different attitude than Rocker Shawn, it was just the same guy who played him).
Main eventers, world champs, iconic looks, elite articulation. That should last them a long time. I mean, people are selling their Jakks by the dozens. Each week someone puts his collection up. Perhaps this means people need the money or they're shifting to Mattel. Pretty soon it won't matter what Jakks did if people like Mattel that much more.

I like Bundy and will buy his figure but if left up to me he and DDP would have been removed and Windham and Magnum would have been put in.

But I know and love the Sgt in the Camo. as he was battling Hogan & Warrior.

I don't mind the choices, either way I'll do my part and try to keep the Legends line alive by purchasing two of each, one for display, one for MOC collection.
I hope sales will do good to justify perhaps releasing a Legends figure per month in 2013.

The poll was a big mistake to begin with. They should have set it up correctly where people couldn't abuse it. I agree with this! Anyway, for me: Liz = MUST HAVE! Now that we got a butt load of Macho Man figs coming, She is definitly needed. And the Fact we never got her from jakks. Bundy = MUST HAVE! My biggest era is the Saturday night main event days, and late 80's and Bundy is a HUGE part of that history for me. Arn & Tully = Defintly want them. Just wish they could have came in a 2-pack, and left 2 spots open for other single wrestlers. I dont see Tully being a hot seller though. DDP = PASS! Not interested in him at all. Never liked him anyway. I had plenty of his figs from toybiz in the monday night wars days. I want to focus on wwf 1985-1996, and maybe some NWA 1985-1990. I voted for Liz & Bundy. So I'm happy those 2 made it. Would want Brain Busters, so I'll take em. Just passin on DDP! I wanted Crush, One Man Gang, & Doink as my other 3. Would get them all except for DDP, Savio Vega, and Farrooq. If Farrooq was Ron Simmons WCW or in Tag Team Doom, Id take him though.
