Bill Murray has shredded his copy of the Ghostbusters 3 script, according to reports.
Murray is believed to be the one obstacle in the way of the supernatural comedy sequel getting made, with the rest of the original team being on board.
According to the National Enquirer, Murray has returned the destroyed script to former co-stars and co-writers Dan Ackroyd and Harold Ramis. A note apparently read: "No-one wants to pay money to see fat, old men chasing ghosts."
Rumours have suggested that the script, penned by the writers of the US version of The Office, would see the original team hand over the ghostbusting business to a younger generation of comedy stars, while some have even claimed that Murray's character Peter Venkman would himself appear as a ghost.
Sony Pictures is said to be uncomfortable about making Ghostbusters 3 unless Murray rejoins the cast, while Signourney Weaver has insisted that she will not return unless he does. Ackroyd, however, has claimed that the movie will get made with our without him.
The famously reclusive Murray did, however, join the original cast to offer voice work on the recent Ghostbusters console game.

I hope he never agrees. People just want it for nostalgia. Go watch the ing originals. People like the idiots here will see it and no matter how decent it might be, will bitch, while clammering for it for years KNOWING the exact outcome years beforehand, it's mind boggling. Just leave it alone. All hail Bill Murray.

Bill Murray is a true hero, I'm glad he won't do it, it'll never be as good now as it could have been if they did it 20 years ago.

This is some of the greatest news I could possibly read. It's funny how the same type of news 10 years ago (Bill Murray Says No to Ghostbusters III) basically broke my heart, though. Bleh.

Honestly, the video game was all the "3rd movie" I could ask for.

I honestly would have gave it a chance kind of disappointing, who knows, it could have been a good film..

Really? So the Garfield 2 script was good enough but Ghostbusters 3 isn't?

Really? So the Garfield 2 script was good enough but Ghostbusters 3 isn't? I hate that argument. Garfield is a kids' movie. It really doesn't matter if he does 2 Garfield movies or 100 Garfield movies. No one is expecting those to be anything more than what they are. If he wants to keep both Ghostbusters movies as a lasting, cool image of his youth and something he accomplished in his life without bastardization, so be it. And if Ghostbusters: The Video Game was any indication of how the comedy and dialogue in the new script would've been, good riddance. The game was tons of fun, it was lame in every other aspect.

If the movie still gets made without Bill Murray, it will have a HUGE void and that'll really suck. I mean, you'll have Ray, Winston, and Egon, but no Venkman?? Come on...
And Murray seemed to like the idea of doing voice-work for the video game, not to mention the bit part by re-enacting out the Ghostbusters part in Zombieland with Woody Harrelson. That was friggin' classic!! Probably my favorite part of that movie!!
If Murray truly hated the idea of doing anything with the Ghostbusters again, would he have done the video game and re-enacted the part in Zombieland?? I don't know man....
I think it'll take some serious coaxing after a nice sit-down talk, but Murray will come around in the end. What else is he doing, really???

Didn't he also show up at some awards show not that long ago in the Venkman outfit?

someone in Hollywood who doesn't wanna milk everything dry? that's a first. i never liked the original Ghostbuster movies much but I applaud Murray for having some standards.
even just conceptually, the script sounds like garbage to me. people don't wanna see "Teenage Ghostbusterz: Da Next Generation 3D", with 20 sequels to follow with the quality, star power and rating dropping with every installment.
surely having the original cast come back from retirement and save the city one last time is the more logical movie to make.

I agree. I'd hate to see them do this one, hand down the ghostbusters job to some kids and then it just spin out of control and spawn numerous sequels that eventually become straight to dvd crap or made for tv movies.

Good for him, there's no need for a 3rd film.

This saddens me. I really wanted there to be a third film, but it will be worthless without Bill Murray or Sigourney Weaver.

Honestly, who really actually enjoyed the Venkman dialogue in the video game? Part of the problem was that most video games just haven't, as a whole, quite translated to 'cinematic experience' yet, but it was more like Bill Murray doing his best 'Bill Murray as Peter Venkman' impersonation than it was an actual Venkman performance. He was clearly going throught he motions.
The generally HUGELY believable, sarcastically mundane Peter Venkman was reduced to this kind of whacky, snarky comic relief, almost with this Jar-Jar quality. It wasn't good, at all and I'd rather have nothing than a movie with a character like that.

I love Ghostbusters, but Bill Murray is right. This movie does not need to happen. The 1st and 2nd one + The video game is all we need. If anything, make more video games.
The guys are too old and except for Ernie Hudson, they all look horrible......and I don't want a new crop of douche bag comedian Ghostbusters like Seth Rogan, Ben Stiller, Sara Silverman and whoever else was rumored as going to be the "new" Ghostbusters.
Let's just remember it how it was. It's better to have something so good that you leave people wanting more, rather than to get mediocre and give them too much that it leaves a bad taste in their mouths.

Can he send a follow up letter that tells them to put GB2 on Blu Ray already?
Cause that would just be fantastic.
