F4WOnline.com is reporting that WWE officials have been giving serious consideration to the idea of pulling the WWE Title from CM Punk due to what are being called "terrible ratings patterns" for his segments on Raw.
According to the report, the idea of pulling the title from Punk was discussed prior to the TLC PPV, however the decision was ultimately made to have him go over in his Triple Threat bout against The Miz and Alberto Del Rio.
It didn't help matters that Punk's Raw ratings continued to decline the night after the PPV, when his main event segment featuing a 6 man tag match between him, Zack Ryder & Daniel Bryan vs The Miz, Alberto Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler only gained 59,000 viewers for the show's over run.
The Wrestling Observer report noted that the main event segment of Raw only drew a 2.67 cable rating, which is by far the lowest rated Raw main event of 2011 and possibly the lowest Raw main event rating since 1997 for a non-holiday show.

Oh yeah, because Alberto Del Rio will boost those ratings up so much.......
This report is just stupid on all levels. The WWE Champion alone isn't the deciding factor for the ratings... it's the show as a whole.

I'm assuming they haven't even taken into account the time of year? Ratings are always terrible this time of year because people are busier, have less money and time and the American Football season is dominating TV over there.
And over here people are too tired to stay up til 2am to watch Raw.

That is a shame though there are alot of factors that should go into analizing ratings. There is no way the front office can think the divas match actually brought viewers. But in regards to wwe champ being the main factor he actually is. The company is on his shoulders so it's on him, fair or not.

I missed the sentence that read that they're thinking on giving him the title again. Seriously, this Del Rio hate is ridiculous.

Anybody that believes these dirtsheets are intellectually- disabled, this is not true at all and Punk will hold the belt for a while.

Well the drum roll thing did drag it out a little too much but the whole segment was good.

Anybody that believes these dirtsheets are intellectually- disabled, this is not true at all and Punk will hold the belt for a while. Drop the dirtsheet part of the article and look at the ratings trends. The middle part of the show always goes back and forth. The end is the scary part: WWE put it's young talent on display as the Raw main event and viewers tuned out. Look at Orton and his last few title reigns: they were rather short because the man gets a thunderous pop in the arena but the ratings drop when he's got the strap. Hopefully the low ratings right now are the fad, or else Punk, Bryan and Ryder are in for a short run.

Hopefully it is to do with the time of year, i hope there isn't any knee-jerk reactions and they give it time to develop. This is an important time for them though with the introduction of the Network, they won't want poor ratings going into the launch.

Let me ask this question, if CM Punk is struggling to pull ratings, then who will not struggle to get ratings? Is it possible that Punk suffers from the same stigmatism as Orton?
All I really have to say is I hope that WWE is thinking longterm. Regardless of who they have the title on, and I hope they want to create a better overall product that keeps viewers locked in for the next 10 years. 2011 has been my favorite year in WWE since the early 2000s, but WWE needs to try and connect with more casual viewers. They compete with a lot in 2012, so I hope they don't try to revert back to the same song and dance they did from 06-10 and think it's going to change anything.
The definition of madness is doing the same thing and expecting a different result. Doing something different may mean a temporary stumble in current ratings, but it could also mean a climb in ratings in the future. WWE needs a shot in the arm, and playing it safe isn't going to fix the ratings for them.

Well, I'm intrigued to see what the 'Ratings go with the Champion!' crew have to say about this.
What I will say though is this... CM Punk is a crowd favorite, so if him being Champion is causing people to not bother tuning in, I'd assume there are a lot of casual fans around, who only watch WWE on TV.
Anyway, whatever other people think, there are tons of factors when it comes to ratings. I've never believed that the people holding the belts are what determines a good rating, sounds nonsense to me. Good storylines, character development, cards and matches = good ratings.

Boys who are saying "ratings not the champion's fault, it's the time of year" did you even read the first post? It's not about the entire show underperforming, it's specifically about Punk's segments rating terribly. WWE gets segment-by-segment ratings for the show, and if people are tuning out for Punk's parts, that's bad news for his prospects as a top babyface. The main event babyfaces are the ones who pull the numbers for the show, usually.
kingnothing gets it, and punksnotdead makes a good point that WWE might have to think longterm on it and take the hit on ratings now for the sake of building new stars. But the thing is, I'm not sure CM Punk is ever going to catch on. He's a big hit with us Internet crybabies, but we all watch the show anyway. I think a lot of his IWC-centric stuff is confusing and repellant to normal fans who don't read the newzsites for insider gossip. That may change, and he has stopped overdoing the insider stuff for the most part, so if the shareholders are alright with it, I'd like them to keep the title on him until Elimination Chamber and see if his segments start to improve.
