...kiss the Legends line goodbye. According to some things I've heard, Mattel automatically considers an item a flop if it doesn't sell out in a day. Well, the fact that months later The Rockers are still available, and Andre the Giant still hasn't sold out a week later, it appears that Mattel will probably lose all faith in the line completely. Don't be surprised if after Elizabeth we never see another Legends figure other than Flashbacks, heck I bet we don't even make it to November! I bet DDP hits the final nail in the coffin.

i wouldnt be surprised if we didnt make it till november. unless they made the figures already.
i dont expect any of the rest to do all that well. Honestly i think even if they put hbk, undertaker, razor ramone , hulk hogan and ric flair on mattycollector as their exclusives it still wouldnt be a spectacular success cuz who even knows of mattycollector outside these forums?
im really only excited about bundy but ill buy the rest minus ddp.... and i might even buy him for the completionist part of me
If RSC hasnt sold out on their exclusives yet then what chance does mattycollector? RSC has been the go to wrestlingfig store for a decade..... mattycollector just posted their first wwe item in nov
i hope im wrong but i have little faith.

I don't care honestly. What doesn't get released as Legends will get released as Flashbacks and we will pay less and get them faster.

Has anyone from Mattel actually said if Mattycollector doesn't sell out of one, it's considered a failure?
That seems to be more of the logic of collectors than Mattel themselves.
So does that mean that anything in stock, WWE or other, on Mattycollector is a failure?

So does that mean that anything in stock, WWE or other, on Mattycollector is a failure? Kind of, yes. They want their figures to sell out in a day or so. He Man is their main seller and they expect an insane amount of subscriptions to be sold months before the year starts. They basically canceled the Ghostbusters and Voltron lines due to low subscription sales. The DC Classics is about done for lower than expected sales, too. Hopefully, they finish this year but they might stop it all before then. Also, Flashbacks of Arn / Tully will NEVER happen. They save Flashback spots for bigger stars or flashier gimmicks.

So does that mean that anything in stock, WWE or other, on Mattycollector is a failure? The unfortunate answer is....yes. Masters of the Universe Classics has been going strong since it's Dec 2009 intro, and for a while (maybe due to low supply) monthly figures were "selling out" in mere hours. Mattel does pull some stock back for conventions and to replace defects, but all-in-all these were successful sellouts. Their first vehicle venture was the Wind Raider at a $45 pricepoint last December (of all months) and it sold out in 3 days! Great news right? Wrong. Toyguru - the toyline's brand manager said that Mattel considers that "okay" and really not worth the return on investment for the unique one-time tooling for the vehicle. 3 days was just "okay"?!! Anyways, like I've said in the past - He-Man fans only have the toyline to collect while there's only a small percentage of the WWE Universe that collects the WWE toys. Put them on a website like Mattycollector where you need a credit card, and you need to be available 12PM EST ~ you'll NEVER get all the kids that make up their 95% target market to buy these toys. I wouldn't be surprised if after DDP they call it quits - but Toyfair is around the corner (Feb-12 I think) so we might possibly see a Bundy proto.

Nope. Mattel has never said that. Its just more of a collectors logic. They could be still selling really well we don't know. Its impossible anything sells out in a day. Video Games do not sell out in a day, clothing items do not sell out in a day, nothing does really. There is always tons of stock somewhere to be sold. So its all based on whether enough people are buying them to make Mattel think it is worth it or not. I know my boyfriend has bought like 4 of each legend exclusive out already, plus is buying older ones he missed and trying to get doubles of them for customs. Its hard though cause there so expensive. We can only shop online and no one gives you a break there so it kind of makes us not want to buy as many. Imagine how many other people feel that way to. The online market is really killing Mattel's line with these prices.

I really expect this to be a trial run. They're going to go through and get "numbers" on how well the series sells online and then next year adjust their production to those sale numbers. Mattel is still new at Wrestling figures unlike all their comic lines. After 2013 if their line is clogging their warehouse, THEN I expect them to cancel it.

The online market is really killing Mattel's line with these prices. Here's a direct quote from Scott (Toyguru), He-Man Brand Manager: "The Windraider actually only performed "okay" for us and therefore we have no plans for more vehicles in the near future. There is just too much tooling involved that is a one time use." "No, the Windraider only performed "okay" which makes it doubtful we would tackle another vehicle in the near future. Maybe in a movie year if the line goes wider." That was a 3 day sellout <-- i.e. they sold all the units they had to offer. Are you telling me the Rockers who are still available after 2 months and Andre the biggest frikken attraction in wrestling is still available after 1 week and Mattel doesn't view this as a failure? Tell it to the Voltron and Ghostbuster fans.

Video Games do not sell out in a day, clothing items do not sell out in a day, nothing does really. No, seriously. Masters of the Universe figures sell out in MINUTES sometimes. I swear. You would have to log in at noon and fight to get your order in before figures sold out. It was frustrating. That's why they went to a subscription to help collectors not have to log in each month and fight to get toys. Check out this site: www.motuclassics.com/ and look at 2011 or 2010 and look at the sell out times on each figure. Some are several days, some are a few minutes.

Fisto, Sorceress, Fearless Photog and Shadow Weaver are all scheduled to be released on Feb-15 on mattycollector.com - for those of you not familiar with the brand, those are some heavy hitters - Fisto looks amazing, Sorceress is major canon, Fearless Photog never got produced in the last 25 years and Shadow Weaver is a cult favourite.
Log on at 12PM EST on Feb-15 and see what happens.

You and me both! But don't forget the Beast Man and Stratos re-releases on that day too! Beast Man is a huge fan favourite figure. All I want is Fisto and I'm preparing for a huge server crash.

They really aren't doing themselves any favors by selling these for MORE than their retail counterparts, plus shipping. They have some pretty terrible choices coming out based on what actually sold at retail. Yes, we're going to suffer, but they very much did this to themselves. Andre and the Rockers (not to be confused with Barbie and the Rockers) would have sold far better at retail. They should have released them far earlier in the line, though. Even so, its all for naught anyway. Mattel basically outsmarted themselves. Now they are stuck with guaranteed slow sellers (Tully, Arn, DDP) at a higher than fair price point, PLUS SHIPPING. I know some may be excited, but they are choosing these guys over guys like Brutus the Barber Beefcake and Earthquake, which is absurd. Its ridiculous to blame us for not buying figures that wouldn't have sold well at retail for more money, but that's what they choose to do, and that's why we will lose Legends. Nevertheless, I still expect to eventually see guys like Hogan.

They will at least finish the line up for this year. Because most likely they have a contractual obligation with the mattycollector part of the company to finish this year up. Mattel Design team did say that they would next year would depend on the overall sells of this year.

I knew this line was done 2 weeks after The Rockers came out. As stated above by the MOTUC fans, if it doesn't sell-out in the first day, Matty considers it a failure. As a former fan of JLU (which also flopped on MattyCollector), I am way to familial with the signs...and I anticipate the end of DC Universe on MattyCollector this year too.

I have a feeling what is hurting the DCUC sub is what is also going to hurt the WWE exclusives. There are retail versions of both the DCUC and Legends figures. Unless the DC All Stars line and the Flashbacks figures go away collectors are always going to hold out hope for characters like Andre and Poison Ivy at retail. And do you really think if Hogan signs with Mattel they wouldn't put Andre in the same Elite set as Hogan?
