an ipad? those are expensive, so yes that's stealing. someone paid good money for that ipad and would probably want it back, if it was actually left behind. i don't know anyone stupid enough to forget an entire ipad, but still. it sucks the guy was fired, but you can't just take things like that because you noticed them laying there.

Sure it's stealing if he made no attempt whatsoever to get the items back to the owner. He should have reported the items he found to the bus company management and they should then keep them in a lost property container for a month or two and see if anyone calls to enquire about them. Then if nobody comes forward in a couple of months, then give them to the person who found them. I'm not sure how it works in the states but I believe the Police here in the UK operate in a similar way with lost property, there's a certain period where the owner has chance to reclaim them, but if nobody comes forward then they go to the person who found them. Sums up exactly what I was about to say pretty nicely.

I consider this stealing, since he didn't try to ask if the items were not forgotten in the bus or try to report the things he found in the bus. Also, the fact that putting the stuff in his bag, then taking it to his truck justifies that stealing story. These are my thoughts.

If they were TRYING to get him to steal the stuff then HECK NO it's not stealing. They should not let him keep the stuff but FIRE him? Let me embrace my inner Madea here , HELL NO!
