I had sometimes wondered why WCW didnt just call Nashs faction the "Wolfpac" and eliminate the nWo part altogether? it certainly would have made Sting and Luger joining more palatable. Marketing. They wouldn't have sold as many t-shirts. Thats probably what it comes down to. They just threw NWO on everything. Hey, Japanese wrestlers no one really knows or cares about!! NWO Japan...... Lets throw Scott Norton in there too.

here's how i would have booked my "wolfpac" and the death of the original nWo:
after the second hogan/sting PPV match where sting beat hogan, hogan becomes obsessed with the WCW title rather than taking over WCW. with rude being in the nWo at the time, he grows angry over hogan losing site of this goal. nash, hall, hennig, and waltman follow rude in wanting to take over WCW. this leads to both factions fueding up to war games where wolfpac wins, and nWo hollywood is disbanded forever. we get the sting/DDP/goldberg triple threat at starrcade, with goldberg winning. on the next nitro, sting challenges goldberg to a rematch, which ends in a no contest due to wolfpac interference, as they destroy goldberg and sting and DDP trying to make a save. rude goes on to cut a promo, saying on how the wolfpac is here to take over WCW and declares sting public enemy #1.
thats what i got so far, let me know if this sounds any good hahaha

Sting vs. Goldberg would have been the perfect response to Taker and Austin's highway to hell angle in the summertime.
Also Bret vs. Hogan

I've always said that in 1998, WCW should have built up all year to a showdown at Starcade between Sting, Bret, and Goldberg. All three of them should have been pushed to the moon and led to a big final showdown. Sting should have remain champion all year, while Goldberg and Bret were also pushed hard.
At the same time, the nWo should have been broken up, and the big Hogan/Nash match could have gone down at Starcade as well. After losing to Sting the year before, Hogan would have come up short in matches with Bret and Goldberg, which would have led to Nash blaming Hogan for dropping the ball. The nWo officially breaks up sometime during the summer of 98, and Hogan disapears, thinking he doesn't have it anymore. He would then return sometime during the Fall to challenge Nash to a match at Starcade.

Sting and Bret should have beaten everyone all year making the two of them look incredibly strong going into a main event at Starrcade for Stings title. the nWo should still have split but Nashs face faction should not have been nWo-simply Wolfpac.also Hall should have been with Nash. Goldberg should have spent the year sawing through everyone then won the Battle Royale at WW3 to face the winner of Bret/Sting. in 99 they could have then started to build Steiner into WHC material to challenge any of the above 3. and of course Sting Should NEVER have joined nWo.......even it was the Wolfpac.

Sting/Bret works too at Starcade 1998, but I always thought Goldberg in the mix as well would have made an entertaining as hell triple threat. I would have had Goldberg go over, and going into 1999 Bret and Sting could have started a singles feud while Goldberg could have spent the early part of the year defeanding against those two as well as Hogan and Nash until guys like Steiner and DDP were ready to challenge him.
Steiner and DDP would have been the two guys I would have built up to eventually face off with Goldberg during the second half of 1999. Guys like Booker T, Benoit, Jericho, and Raven would have also been feuding for the US Title while waiting to get their pushes to the main event later that year or into early 2000. Starcade 1999 would have built to a huge showdown with Goldberg defending against Scott Steiner. Goldberg would have won, but it would have been a close contest with Steiner pushing Goldberg more than any other opponent had. Sometime in 2000, I would have given the big win over Goldberg to either Steiner, Booker T, Jericho, or Chris Benoit. All four of those guys could have helped to carry the company as top guys and it was crazy WCW never gave them a proper main event push. 2001 could have been led by Goldberg, Booker T, and Benoit as the top faces while Steiner and Jericho could have been the top heels. That plus the veteran presence of guys like Hogan, Nash, Flair, Sting, Bret, etc... would have kept WCW good and going for years IMO.

On this day: Sting wins back the Championship that he was stripped of over a month earlier when he defeats Hulk Hogan to become the Undisputed WCW World Heavyweight Champion at SuperBrawl VIII.

It seems like Sting's amazing buildup coincided with the rise in popularity of WCW and his eventual fall in being booked horribly coincided with the fall of WCW. A shame indeed.

Stings treatment in 98 is mystifying.he was hotter than Austin in late 97......and by March he was looking at the lights for Savage.I laid out his PPV run in the OP.....its shocking to read.

I reread my posts in this thread and still think it should have been Sting vs. Goldberg for the title at Starrcade 98. They could have built that up as the two biggest babyfaces for the title. The unstoppable Goldberg vs the one guy that Goldberg never beat, the franchise of WCW, Sting. Watching their Nitro match from September, man, the crowd was ELECTRIC. Can you imagine if Sting had been kept strong during 98 and they actually built to that match instead of giving it away? Could have been an all time classic. I think they had a match in 99 as well and the crowd was still electric for them.

LOL @ The tazer incident. Goldberg flopping around on the mat while Kevin Nash pins him still makes me laugh. I always thought that was Goldbergs way of saying you to the higher up and kicking out real fast. But nah, he just sucks. Can't believe it took me this long to read this, op. Great read and good points. WCW sucked so bad.

Wow, first off I'd like to welcome myself back on the boards. It's been ages. I personaly agree with the terrible booking in this scheme. However, I didn't have as big a problem with the Superbrawl rematch.
