Sting’s character has been dead to me since he joined the wolfpack. Nash & Savage screwed him out of the world title at spring stampede & he joins up with them a month later like nothing happened.

Yep. A lot of things happening at this time didn't make sense. Two of the most misused people on the roster at this time were Sting and Bret Hart. I know people at the time liked it because they liked the NWO Wolfpac and Sting, but looking back on it, it makes no sense for him to join them.

I’m still trying to wrap my mind around DDP dropping the title clean to Sting, only to win it back in the main event of the same show.
Crazy Flair was great though.

I would say "I'm on a WCW kick" but honestly I watch more NWA/World Championship Wrestling than anything else as far as older shows.
Sifting through 1996 and 1997 for the Sting story. Such fantastic storytelling and buildup that had an absolute crape payoff. Then the obviously mishandling of Sting in 98.. easily one of the biggest misses in wrestling history.
But dammit I miss WCW

Ive been going back and bingeing Nitro. Started at 1997 and am now close to years end in 1999. As I stated in another thread the biggest issue with WCW was lack of direction. Im positive by hearing multiple stories that some of the issue was Hogan coming in and deciding he could basically be world champ whenever he wanted, im sure that screwed up a storyline more than once. But yeah the multiple face/heel turns guys feuding and the becoming best friends over nothing a week later.
Savage/Nash/Sting was a good callout Nash coming to Goldbergs aid in 1999 against DDP when they just fought a month prior at Spring Stampede was weird Hogan and Flair teaming in mid 1999 after their bloody feud at the years start was weird
Yeah Sting's downfall was pretty much that of a lack of vision for direction. Once the teasing of Sting vs. Hogan for over a year was done at Starrcade, they had no idea what to do with Sting and basically were biding time to get the title back on Hogan.

Sting's downfall sadly wasn't even the Starrcade match/win over Hogan.
It was that in the summer of 1997 they had Lex Luger defeat Hogan clean in the ring on Nitro for the WCW World Title. Even though Lex held it for 6 days, he already accomplished something that Sting wanted to do and that they were building up for.

That was a mistake but it would soon have been forgotten about had Sting been booked correctly in December. Although as Stings article above reveals? There was far more to this whole scenario than any of us knew.
