What does anything the Yankees have done in the past have to do with their chances this year? The roster is not the same. You don't just waltz in and put on the uniform and become some kind of clutch machine. It's actually usually the opposite. People with success elsewhere usually come to the Yankees and put up HORRIBLE numbers. So I'm not really seeing your logic. Nothing the Yankees have done in the past even remotely has anything to do with this 2013 Roster or anybody on this team. The only players on this team with any legit Postseason/World Series experience are Pettitte, Rivera, Jeter, and CC Sabathia. Chamberlain, Hughes, Gardner, Robertson, Cervelli, and Teixeira were all on the 2009 team but did ZERO in the Playoffs. And as we've now learned, A-Rod was all roided up in 2009, so that wasn't legit. I don't see how anything from the past is going to help the Yankees this year. Different roster, everybody is older, injuries are clearly going to be a factor, and eventually Pettitte and Jeter are going to hit the point where they can't play anymore. Mo might never hit that noticeable decline since this is his last year, but everybody else on the team is just getting older and declining. I didn't pick the Yankees to win the WS. I picked them to win the division. They win the division it's a good year. It's been 20 years since the Yankees finished below .500 which they'd almost certainly have to do to finish last. They'll be fine. They have the ability to win at the end of the day. Sorry, I don't see it. Except for Andy Pettitte, Derek Jeter, Mariano Rivera, and arguably CC Sabathia and Robinson Cano.....who else on the Yankees 2013 Roster is a proven winner with a track record of success? You really don't have anything to support your argument. You just keep saying "They are the Yankees and the Yankees will always be fine". Well, Roger Clemens, Tino Martinez, Jorge Posada, David Cone, El Duque, Bernie Williams, and Paul O'Niell don't play here anymore, and Derek Jeter is going to be 39, Any Pettitte is going to be 41, and Mariano Rivera is 43. The "Yankees will always be fine" is coming to an end....they don't have the organizational depth to continue to win the Division year after year after year after year anymore, and if Hal isn't willing to spend big money to bring in Free Agents, the Yankees aren't going to be able to have a roster with enough talent to make the Playoffs.

Soooo like, for real here.......what exactly is your message board gimmick? I'm seriously confused as to why you come on here and constantly act like the Yankees are some kind of juggernaut and that every player on the roster is the best player at each specific position when it's CLEARLY known and acknowledged by EVERY Yankee fan and sports media outlet that the team is in massive trouble and almost every player is going through a period of age and decline....
So what's the deal? Because, I can't think of any logical reasoning why somebody would come on and pretty much suggesting that an entire WBC roster of almost all Yankees would have won the WBC for Team USA?
You really think Travis Hafner, Boone Logan, Phil Hughes, Joba Chamberlain, Kevin Youkilis, Bret Gardner and Derek Jeter are the BEST American born players at their respective positions?
And as much as I like Sabathia and love Pettitte, I can name probably 15 other American born SP's I'd rather have on my team from an age and talent standpoint.
I'm just really confused.....it's gotta be sarcasm. Nobody can actually think that the Yankees are that good. Hell, I'm the craziest and most ridiculous Yankee fan you'll ever find and even I look at the 2013 roster and think they suck.

Was right about the Orioles and Nationals getting to the playoffs last year, not its time for some more crazy predictions. Gonna go out here and predict a terrible start for the Astros, they heat up mid to late season then blow it down the end and finish 2nd or 3rd while the Angels finish last

If the American players on the Yankees had participated in the 2009 WBC, they wouldve won the WBC and World Series in the same year. They get paid $20 million/yr playing for the most famous MLB team in the world and cant even give service to their country for 3 weeks every 4 years?

When is the last time the Yankees actually went out in an offseason and traded for, or signed to a free agent contract, the best or one of the best players?
I'll answer that question for you....the off season after the 2008 season when they signed CC Sabathia, Mark Teixeira, and A.J. Burnett.
The Yankees as an organization have turned into a JOKE. When The Boss was alive, sometimes he would go out and sign an ace pitcher or a slugger just to show that he could and keep those players from landing elsewhere. When the Yankees didn't have any holes in the roster or needs, The Boss would still go out and get players as a screw you to the other teams. For years, anytime there was a big player hitting the market everyone just assumed that the Yankees would be in play, and they probably went out and signed a lot of guys to way too much money simply to spite other teams (Carl Pavano, Gary Sheffield, Jaret Wright, just to name a few).
Now, when there is a huge free agent on the market, the Yankees are the LAST team anybody would expect to sign anybody. Once George died, Hal closed the pocketbook and the Yankees are no longer willing to give players long term, big money deals.
Hank and Hal are running the team like a business and their entire purpose is to make money, NOT win Championships.
So I don't know where you are getting the idea that the Yankees are all about bringing in the best possible players....unless you're stuck in 2002-2009. Take a look at 2010-2013 and tell me what "best player at his specific position" that the Yankees have acquired?
I've seen the Yankees sign ex-top players to low risk minor league deals/1-year deals and catch lighting in a bottle a few times (Chavez, Ibanez, and Jones) and Russell Martin was a good player for us on his low money 2 year deal we gave him before the 2011 season)..... but for the last 3 years the Yankees have been more about taking cheap low risk chances, rather than spending the money on a guaranteed top of the line player.

I really need to agree with this. The Yankees aren't the same team that uses their money the way only they can anymore. All I hear is how much trouble the Yankees are in. The Orioles are the future of the division, the Blue Jays are starting to heat up, and whenever they want, the Red Sox or Rays can create another race. It seems like the Yankees are just behind every other team in the AL East. And as a lifelong Bombers fan, that disappoints me.

Andy just like I said these wrist strains always turn into tears....Mark Teixeira has a partially torn tendon sheath in his wrist. Probably looking at season ending surgery.
Man, somebody get Mark Teixeira some extra strength tampons. He's been such a p*ssy ever since he became a Yankee. Derek Jeter played with a cracked ankle until it shattered on the field....Mark Teixeira needs to grow a pair.
Still waiting for the Yankees to wake up and admit they need Justin Morneau to play 1b for them to have any chance at anything this season.....

It's not as cut-and-dry as season ending surgery. The type of injury he has is the best case scenario for a wrist. As long as he doesn't come back and try to play too early he shouldn't need any kind of surgery. That being said, he probably won't be back until at least June now. They need somebody who can hit a freakin home run on this team. There is going to be ZERO "fear" and Cano's production is probably going to suffer.

I don't get how some reports say out till June and some say out for the year. There's a big ing difference between out for year and out till June

Derek Jeter scratched from today's Spring Training game due to stiffness/pain in his surgically repaired ankle. This seriously brings into question his ability to play in consecutive games and probably means he's not going to be playing shortstop on Opening Day. Perhaps he could be the DH, but I don't see him playing 100 games at short this year if the ankle keeps acting up.
Yankees lineup just got WEAKER. Opening day lineup now looks like (not in the right order, but by position)
C- Francisco Cervelli (sucks) 1B - Juan Rivera (sucks) 2B - Robinson Cano SS - Eduardo Nunez (sucks) 3B - Kevin Youkilis LF - Brennan Boesch (mediocre) RF - Ichiro (not powerful) CF - Bret Gardner (not powerful) DH - Derek Jeter (unless on DL)
Where is the power going to come from other than Cano and maybe if Youkilis really has a resurgence?

You don't need power to score runs. Just 'cuz that's how the Yankees scored runs last year doesn't mean that's how they'll do it this year. You're pushing the panic button before the season starts.

Ichiro and Hiroki Kuroda cost Japan the WBC Championship by not participating. Ichiro wouldve gotten on base while the batters behind him drive him in and Kuroda wouldve shut down Puerto Rico in the semi-final game

Congrats to the Dominican Republic on winning the WBC. It was amazing that they won even without guys like Albert Pujols, Jose Bautista, Ivan Nova, Adrian Beltre, etc. Robinson Cano has a chance of winning the WBC MVP and World Series MVP in the same year.

Can see Cano as the regular season MVP, but unless MLB does an NIT type tournament, I dont see the Yankees being in the postseason

The only way Robinson Cano is playing a Playoff game this year is if he's traded at the deadline.

I can still see the Yankees going to the playoffs. I don't see them winning the WS though. That's a pretty illogical statement if you think about it. Every team in the Playoffs has the same chance of winning. The HOTTEST team wins the World Series, not the BEST team. Hot and cold streaks apply in the Playoffs. If the Yankees were to make it to the Playoffs, they would have just as much chance of winning the World Series as any of the other teams. So I don't see how you can logically say you see the Yankees overcoming their weaknesses over a 162 game campaign, but then don't see them being able to do it for another 11 Postseason wins (12 if they are a Wild Card team).
