I work at Whole Foods Market as a Cashier/bagger. There are times some people come through my line and really annoy me. Here are some examples.
Talking on the phone. Cant you wait till I'm done with you? Having no idea there are 4 lanes in Express. Do I have to come up to you and yell in your face that I'm here to help you because you were to busy daydreaming in line?
People who start silly conversations. When I ask if you found everything ok and they say no, I don't want to hear what you didn't find. You should've asked somebody else.
"Don't work too hard"...
Any other things you guys can't stand?

My last, and only actually, job mainly involved being on the register so I can see where you're coming from. I didn't really mind when people started stupid little conversations because honestly the job would be boring as hell if you were mindlessly standing there ringing things up for an entire shift.

I'm a cashier and while I've only been one for five weeks I've established three types of people I hate: 1. Old people who feel they have some sort of self entitlement, or that they're always right. I understad that the customer is always right but you aren't going to get this Blu-Ray player for $13 because you're positive that it's marked down. No, I can't double bag a bag full of cotton balls because that's a ing waste but I'll do it anyway...no ma'am I bagged the chemicals and food correctly but you mixed them up while you were ing with the bags. 2. The people who want to put back more than five things, or show up with a cart full of crapand think "Well I don't know if I can pay for all of this so I'm gonna have you scan them slowly and then I'll decide what I want," and then they leave the cart full of items behind. 3. Parents who can't control their children. I understand being a parent is hard but if a kid is running behind the counter to my register and is making a mess of impulse buy items, I'm gonna be frustrated. I never show emotions other than being appreciative...but damn get a hold on your kids.

During my brief time working in retail, only one thing really bugged me. Every time the store was out of something people would grab me in the middle of a task (I worked in the back unloading freight, so I was rarely out on the floor) and then ask if I can go look in the back to see if we have any more. We don't hide stuff from people, as soon as it comes in we put it out. Even when I told them as much, these people would think I'm deliberately lying to them.

I've been working for Food Lion for a year now as a Cashier/Office Assistant(like Shift Manager type deal of the Front End) and I know exactly how you feel. The first of the month is def. the worst part of the month to work, obvious reasons. I know exactly how you feel when they say ''don't work to hard''. What the heck am I supposed to say? I'm usually just like ''I'll try not to.'' Then you get the one's who know how much money they have on their card, and when their bill is like $150 and they have $100 their look ''ohhh, I gotta put some back''. Seriously? You know how much money you have! And when you work express and someone with a cart load pulls in. I'm just like ''I have to take 12 items or less.'' and then get dirty looks. Hello? Read the dang sign! And then cigarettes. Ask for them first. Simple as that. Half way through the order ''I need a pack of this and 3 packs of this.'' Come back. ''Oh I need 100's''. You need 100's? Then say it!
But even though it's a pain in my rear I love my job and wouldn't trade it for the world!

I just recently started working the exact same job as you, and I used to do that, thinking that they didn't put everything out that they got in. But you're right, whatever we get in, we spend the rest of the week putting out every single bit that we can fit on the shelves.

Most people who are fluent in automobiles perform routine maintenance on their own vehicles. Those that are not visit automotive shops, carrying with them that same "customer is always right" mentality. My day to day is hell.

In my experience, the customer 85-95% of the time has NO IDEA what they are talking about.

I worked in retail as well for close to 10 years. I know there were times when something WAS in the back but for what ever reason a customer was told we didnt have that item. So I know that when a person asks..... Can I look? It is because they worked retail, they know how it is. AT THE O.P. If it bugs you so much that people did not find everything they were looking for then why ask? Back when I worked retail I disliked these customers. People who put a hand basket up on the conveyour belt. That is just a such a big level of lazyness on the part of the customer. I would always grab the hand basket and flip it upside down. Show some curtesy towards your cashier and place the items onto the belt and put the hand basket on the floor. Bums. We would get so many bums in my store, they would always rush the register 1 min before the cut off time for liquor. So if there was a line of customers and that person had to wait they lost the window of time allowed by law to buy liquor. And of course they would look at the cashier like it's there fault. When in fact the computer will not allow you to ring up liquor after said time. Also these people would leave a sandwhich in favor of that 40oz booze. Also I wont mention the exact people,color,race,ethnic group.......... but there were these people who would "shop" at my store. They were regulars, they always tried to pull something. Wether it was trying to use fotocopied coupons, using counterfit money, shoplifting, to just making a mess in the store. The women would wear these long ankle length skirts, denim skirts, and one day they caught one of them on camera putting meat in her skirt. The police came and eventually we found out they had sown pockets into the insides of the skirts to make it easier to steal I guess. Long story short, that group of people made me think that entire ethnic group is a bunch of theives and lairs. Also I hate rude people. I deal with rude people to this day, but when you work in retail you get rude people EVERYDAY. If you see a long line, and you see the cashier is doing there best to try and speed things up...... please....... remain calm, keep your cool. The cashier knows you want to get out quick, there is no need to give that cashier an attitude. Do I come to your job and smack the broom out of your hands? No, I dont, so please just dont take your frustrations out on that cashier.

When you can't find a price tag on an item or if it doesn't scan, I always hear "I guess I get it for free then!"
Customers who complain about the $10 minimum for credit card purchases. We have to do it, otherwise it costs us money. Do you really want to pay $1.98 for a slice of pizza & pay for it with your platinum card?
People who decide they no longer want an item in their cart and just put it on the nearest shelf. Why would you leave a box of frozen food in the bakery section? Is it too much trouble to bring it back?
When I worked at a gas station, the customers who thought it was my fault that the gas prices were rising. Complain all you want, I don't give a fat frog's @ss.
The ones who try to haggle with the set prices we have for pizza. This is a restaurant, not a flea market or garage sale.

Retail work is hard work. I did it for years. The worst part is not knowing when you are working from week to week. You could not make plans ever. The job itself was not as bad as not knowing your hours for next week until Saturday night when it was posted. I missed so many important family occasions it was horrible. Weddings, graduations etc.... but when you need the money to survive you do what needs to be done.

I was taking a job training at a local supermarket the other day and the thing that ticked me off was that I would scan the item and the some people would insist that wasn't the price. Like seriously it's on the computer. Another thing is people that treat you like crap, they have such high demands and think you don't have feelings or a life etc...

Honestly, they have every right to talk on there phone. They are the people that are paying you. If it wasn't for them shopping at that store you may not have a job. It's not like they are going to have a conversation with you anyway.

Whenever we have a big sale going on with a particular item going fast, I always seems to get a customer complaining when we run out of it, and when I tell them there's none left they act like it ruined their day and some even tell me they wont be shopping there again, like I care.

My apologies for the length... But I promise this will be a worthwhile read for you.
Let me start by saying this... I have been roaming the forums since 2005. I love collecting wrestling figures (they're the only figures I collect as I grew out of collecting any others) and come here as much as I can to keep up with the reports and daily wrestling and even non-wrestling chatter of my fellow wrestling fans.
With that said, I want to say something about Mattel, the issues, shipping, etc. To begin, I think what Mattel has done in 2 years is very impressive. A lot of us overlook this because I think we were spoiled by Jakks a little bit. Remember, they got first blood in legends, etc. so they had a lot more leeway because many of the products they made were things we had never seen before. In that sense, Mattel is at a disadvantage. On the flip side, there is an advantage of being able to build on Jakks mistakes. And there were an awful lot of them.
But really, if you take a step back and look at what they have done, much can be appreciated. Now don't get me wrong... They have Sin Cara'ed the holy hell out of some things (Snuka with pants? The underwhelming debut series of Legends, etc.)
I have been one of those people who have defended Mattel and RSC for rising costs, availability issues, etc. But now, my tune is changing. It was the announcement of Elite 16 that finally put me over the edge. Let me explain...
Starting with Mattel... These problems... Have persisted for a LONG TIME. My Wal-Mart currently has 7 Randy Ortons, a kid's belt, and not a whole lot else. At first, I found the explanation sufficient. But my problem is this... NOTHING has changed. It hasn't gotten any better. And we're just given a hopeless runaround. "It's what Wal-Mart wants." Why has Mattel done nothing to fix this? Clearly, there is a disparity in availability at retail and I see collectors left and right giving up their hobby because it's a lost cause. They give us Q & As, which I am thankful for, but they hardly tell us anything new. They even indirectly get feisty and annoyed about it. And sadly, people here tend to be okay with that. They think because Mattel has taken time out of their day to talk to us it's some kind of favor. I call BS. We pay them stupid amounts of money. They're not doing us any favors answering questions. We're doing them favors asking them.
If Wal-Mart really is intellectually- disabled enough to think that a rabbit offspring's worth of Ortons and Mysterios sell (which, according to figure reports and our OWN EYES is untrue), couldn't Mattel simply email an executive with a link to these forums and say "Hey, they don't want another Mysterio. They want a purple gloved Undertaker. They want Razor Ramon. Etc." The evidence is HERE. If those figures were listed for pre-order... They’d be gone in minutes, like Nash, etc. And that’s without pictures!!!! There is more I can say about Mattel... But I want to move on to RSC. I have a feeling this is going to get me banned... I hope some of you can see the light and take my side and not allow that to happen. But my membership is not important here. It's that you guys see this sick trend going on.
Picture this... You start a lemonade stand. Neighbors, etc love it. One day, you're short on lemonade and you charge $5.00 a cup instead of fifty cents. Yet, the people still come. In droves. You get new stock and replenish prices. But then someone in your team says, "Hey, $5.00 didn't slow them down... Why not take advantage." You raise the price ridiculously... But the people still come. Let's just say you have a deal with this lemonade company to get the rights to sell it for 6 months before it hits grocery stores so no one can get it elsewhere. Then, finally, when some people get upset about the prices, you get feisty and retort "Well, uh, we overnight our lemonade so we can get it to you faster and uh we sometimes have sales to knock off ten percent so you only pay $4.50.
Does this sound familiar? Here's the fact... RSC prices are OUTRAGEOUS. 29.99 opening price for Diesel? Nash? Plus a ten dollar shipping charge for one figure? That’s 40 plus dollars for A FIGURE. How can anyone in their right mind think that this is normal? The reason this happened has nothing to do with case issues, overnight shipping, blah blah. This is about the dollar. And RSC is squeezing it out like an anaconda. And sadly, we’re responsible. If someone even mentions it, they get told the same crap by... Wait for it, other members bleeding this money out. "Well, don't like it... Don't buy it." Let me start by saying that that is the worst logic imaginable. You're basically saying, accept the unjust and don't fight it. Just because I like wrestling figures, doesn’t mean I have be the victim of highway robbery to have any chance of getting one I want within the next year.
The moment Ringside noticed CM Punk's popularity, they spiked his price to 64.99. I understand supply and demand... But there is a point where things get so unethical it is disturbingly palpable. Nothing justifies these prices. And even worse, is the supply.
This is where Mattel comes back in. Diesel and Nash (sadly) sold out in minutes. Orton is still available. Yet, Orton was made in high supply and Nash was made at a piss-poor rate of 0.5/case. Are you kidding me!? I'm not buying this stupidity anymore. This is a deal between Mattel and RSC to make enormous amounts of money. Nothing more, nothing less. Either that, or an ungodly amount of inexcusable ignorance.
They're a business. I get it. They have to turn a profit. I'm not completely unreasonable. I'm not asking them to break even. That's ridiculous. But charging 49.99 for Yokozuna is too. The fact is... Flame me all you want, smite me, go off, defend RSC like I use to... The fact is, we're being taken advantage of. They know how bad we want Diesel, etc. They could have made a bunch and sold every one of them. But, making less (or claiming so), brings possibly 400% if not more profit a figure. They save money from manufacturing costs. Business wise... Ingenious. For us... financial and ethical rape.
Example... Mattel makes a figure for 5 dollars. Sells it for 10. They make 20 figures. Do the math.... 20 x 5 = 100$. 20 x 10 (selling price) = $200 revenue. Revenue - Budget = 100$. Decent... But how about making only 4 figures (costing 5 dollars apiece) and selling them for $35.00. That’s 80% less budget. It generates more interest in the line in general. And, it’s 20% more profit than the first scenario!!!!
I know what’s coming... “But RSC sets those prices... NOT Mattel!” Are people really buying that? There’s a reason Mattel struck this deal with RSC to begin with. This is a joint effort, fueled by their power and the consumer’s desperation, ignorance, and lack of choice.
BTW... The whole overnight BS. Why aren't we given the option to wait a few more days. I think it's all a scam personally. Mattel ships this stuff to them and the deal to do so is done way in advance.
Assuming this thread lasts, I imagine RingsideC2, Tom, and whoever else will come in here with some haughty response about how unreasonable we are and wanting more and more and how they're just doing "what's best for us." I don't buy it anymore. I imagine you have a thick book’s worth of lines and digs at my posts that you could sound off and have the people here who don’t know better agree with you... But can you tell me why Yokozuna is 50 dollars shipped? Oh... Mattel, can you tell me why you made the least of the figure that people wanted the most? Oh, it was Wal-Mart who wanted more unsellable Ortons? Can you talk to them? Nooooo. Apparently not.
And don’t even get me started on how they treat the internationals. I feel for you guys. Seriously. You should get your own exclusive line of Legends and taunt us with them. I’d be all for it after the crap you’ve dealt with. Please note... That taunting part is sarcasm. But really... You guys deserve legends and feasible shipping prices.
By the way, here is something no one pointed out yet... Ringside and WF have a MONETIZED Youtube channel. With thousands of subscribers and views reaching the millions, they are making quite a handsome buck for crappy content. Yes, figure "reviews" - Not reviews really, more-so gushing one minute sessions in which even the ugliest figure is praised with no constructive criticism or feedback to offer. With their number of subscribers and views, a person could make a nice living off Youtube alone. But are any of those savings being passed onto the customers? Not one cent. And sorry... a WFIGS coupon that saves a portion of a price that was inflated to begin with to give an illusion of a discount doesn't count.
Sadly, WFers themselves will turn on me as well. Most likely PJ. I love his figure pics and passion... But he would bat for Mattel if they charged $500 a figure it seems.
Anyways, say what you want... I've said my piece. If I'm still here, I'll be happy to maturely debate. But given the politics around here and the cohorts between Ringside and WF, that's a giant assumption.
Bottom Line... Despite the excuses and Ringside’s seemingly endless rhetoric about how figures costing almost as much as an xbox game is legitimate, there is no excuse for their prices... For Mattel, there is no excuse for stores to be littered for years now with figures that no one wants, yet keep getting made, and for the figures we do want being made at 1-0.5 a case. It is supply and demand... But it’s not a real “shortage” of materials or supply... It’s an engineered shortage to hype product interest and yield massive profit from a miniscule budget. Ingenious... But has gone too far.
BTW, let it be known... If I do get banned, I didn’t break any rules. I didn’t name-call. I didn’t flame. I didn’t talk sex or drugs. I discussed wrestling figures. That’s it. I really hope this board hasn’t become so strict that we can’t even maturely debate/discuss the subject it was founded upon anymore.

I committed part time work in the food service industry (somewhat similar IMO to what we're taking about here), and I'd love to air some gripes. Hopefully it's on topic enough. Yeah, I know, they're giving us business, keeping me employed. But I got feelings too, see? I contemplated not posting this, but whatever. -Ordering while on the cell phone (and being especially vague with order, getting annoyed when I interrupt their oh-so-important call just to make sure they get what they want). -Hearing how "they" do it. I don't care if they "make" their own pulled pork over at that other restaurant. They probably just add their own sauce and call it homemade. And if you love the way they do it there, go eat there and stop bitching about how ours isn't as good. -People who buy one sandwich and get offended when I don't automatically give them it in a bag. Such a waste. Two hands. One door. One sandwich. -Lottery. This gets its own section. Yeah our sub shop has a lottery thing. Anyone else in a grocery store/gas station know what I'm talking about? -Gambling obsessed people who have NO concept of the line. If someone ordered sandwiches, and I'm making them when I'm the only one there 3 minutes before the daytime numbers are cut off, too damn bad. I'm not putting down these people's food. A school library poster once said- 'a lack of planning on your part is not an emergency on mine'. -People who don't bother saying hello back when I greet them. "TWO POWERBALL!" doesn't seem like an acceptable answer when I ask "hey how ya doing?" I worked in the grocery store business for 15 years. Everyday this one guys would ask, "Working hard or hardly workin?". That got old really fast. Oh God. I cringe at that totally original and interesting statement. BTW, let it be known...
