really makes no sense, I'm not a huge g.i. joe fan but pushing back a movie almost a year just over a month before it's release is boneheaded. my guess is they get major negative feedback and just release it like scheduled

I'm ok with this...
...because Paramount bumped "Ted" up from July 13 to June 29!

This was one of the four movies I was looking forward to this summer (Dark Knight Rises, Expendables 2, and MIB 3 being the others) and I have to wait until next spring to see it just because it apparently needs to be in 3D, which I feel is just a fad anyway, I don't see anything special about it, I don't get it.

I was really looking forward to seeing this the tv spots and trailers were starting to get me pumped. The only good thing out of this is we get TED a month early.

Since they didn't film this movie to be in 3D......the 3D effects are going to be painfully corny, have nothing to do with the actual story, and be blatantly obvious that they are just trying to make something 3D for the sake of making it 3D.

Well, action movies tend to sell more 3D tickets than non. So they want the extra ticket revenue from that. Also, with Battleship flopping, they don't want to risk it this summer, and want to release it next March where there is much less competition and it is less likely to flop and get lost in an Avengers/Batman sandwich.

This has to be unprecedented at some level... they paid all of the money to put the commercial before the Super Bowl, they have billboards all over major cities, etc.... and FIVE WEEKS before it came out they decided they wanted to do 3D? Unbelievable.

That is crazy... I was at Wrestlemania and saw the trailor for GI Joe so I am not too sure why they are pushing it back so far.

After yesterday's big announcement, I look at why 3D doesn't matter for most blockbuster films. wp.me/P2aIde-jd

I was actually looking forward to this movie, very disappointed. Too big of a delay for just a 3D conversion, pathetic.

Me too Pero. I hated the first one, but really liked what they'd showed so far of the movie.

There is no need for any other action films to be released in 2012. Go and see The Raid, if you want some REAL action.

SPOILER!!!!!
Per The Hollywood Reporter , the high-octane sequel to 2009's G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra starring Channing Tatum, Dwayne Johnson and Bruce Willis is being given more time so helmer Jon Chu can convert it to 3-D.
The trade quotes insiders close to Retaliation as saying the studio worried it might not be able to recoup its investment—50 percent of the financing for the flick (MGM and Skydance Productions contributed the other half). And if G.I. Joe ends up kicking butt in three dimensions, Paramount will increase its chances for a better return since it can rely on higher ticket prices thanks to the premium foisted on moviegoers for 3-D. The studio would not comment on how much it has already spent on marketing costs. Likewise, Hasbro has been rolling out tons of new toys based on the film and will now sit on shelves for months without a movie to tie into.
On the other hand, given the lackluster $30 million opening last weekend of Universal's Battleship—like Joe, another tentpole based on a Hasbro line—some were concerned the rough start could rub off on Retaliation, especially since Disney and Marvel's The Avengers has been crushing everything in sight.
With Paramount vacating that weekend, Deadline reports that Universal has now decided to push up Seth MacFarlane 's feature-directing debut Ted. The much buzzed-about R-rated romp about a foul-mouthed teddy bear starring Mark Wahlberg and Mila Kunis was originally supposed to come out July 13, but will now unspool on June 29 to capitalize on G.I. Joe 's absence and get the jump on the Fourth of July weekend.
Retaliation 's postponement is just the latest in a string of problems plaguing the production.
A source tells E! News that Tatum, who plays Captain Duke Hauser, did not want to be attached to the follow-up and only agreed to do it if the filmmakers promised to kill him off in the movie as well as reduce the size of his role. That may explain why the studio turned to action mainstays The Rock and Willis as insurance.
If the delayed release is a bad sign, Channing may have made a smart move.

I seriously cannot believe they're actually going through with this. I thought maybe it was just a rumor or something, but these numbskulls are seriously pulling a movie that has been plugged for months, has a whole line of action figures out and was literally just weeks away from hitting theaters, and all because of that ing 3D garbage. It all just seemed so absurd to be true, but it is, they're actually going through with this and delaying it's release. ing retards.

Chu all but confirmed in an interview that what you see in the trailer and expect about Duke isnt correct and there is a surprise twist.
