definetly man tragedy struck him but he was still slated to be one of the greats guys like ric flair recognize this in every wwe dvd im 23 and i think its a bit sad that young people dont take the time to learn the history of pro wrestling anymore they would appreciate more guys like Magnum T.A
but i understand its about money and mattel cant throw something in the market without knowing they will at least get the money back

Absolutely, hopefully RSC carries him and the "What?" Austin as exclusives. Those figures look too good to be scrapped.

Well according to the Poll that's more than 100 sold...
From a figure stand point it's Fantastic!
I don't see why RSC don't try to get more exclusives per year. With the Legends gone they could be a great outlet for them. Roddy Piper, M$M, JYD and Doink would all sell. I beleive Magnum would also.

I remember seeing a picture of a mattel prototype Magnum TA. it looked AMAZING. I would love to own it, but cant see it happening since Flashbacks will be mostly guys from the 90's, with the rare late 80's wrestler.

I feel like smiting all the children who say they dont know who he is. For me, it's not really that they don't "know" who he is, but that they're completely unwilling to find out, generally speaking. Seems to be a larger overall problem with the younger generation. I remember when I was a young NFL fan and watching the Hall of Fame stuff not knowing who most of the inductees were. I didn't change the channel because of it. I listened and learned. Next time I was in the public/school library, I checked out books that dealt with NFL history and read about how great they were. I got a great education on the NFL and the NBA that way, and it helped me appreciate what they did in order for the game to be what it currently is. Same thing with wrestling, but now it seems the youngsters don't care about what came before for the most part. Pretty sad, really, as there's some great footage available for free out there.

I was alive and did watch wrestling during this era. I grew up in Pennsylvania, the heart of WWF country. To me, most wrestlers from the NWA always came off as a tad boring. Magnum TA was no exception.
Since we are referring to a legends line, before I made Magnum TA, I would make famous WWF/E legends that were skipped by Jakks: WWF Champions like Pedro Morales, Stan Stasiak, and Antonio Inoki; mainstays like Tony Garea and Pat Patterson; all-time legends like Haystacks Calhoun and Bobo Brazil. All of these wrestlers had careers that were much longer and much more significant than that of Magnum TA. The sad reality is, none of them will ever see the light of day as a figure. There is simply not enough of a fan base for them today. Their time has passed.
For those of you who so desperately want a Magnum Terry Allen figure, I offer you this:
Having done a bit of research on the net, I believe that the production cost of a single figure is about $25000 - $30000. From what we have seen, Mattel already has a prototype of Magnum, so let's assume a cost of $25000 for a run of 500 figures. Assuming Mattel's profit is figured in already, your cost per figure is $50. If the figure is a Matty exclusive, add in shipping. That makes each figure $58.70. Get 500 people together who would would pay $58.70, in advance, for a Magnum TA figure and approach Mattel with your $25000. I'm sure they would consider having the figure produced for you.
Feel free to play with the math, but these are probably low-ball numbers.

I got heated when people said doink was more deserving over Magnum Again, it isn't about deserving. It's about selling. A clown will at least get a second glance from a kid. This guy looks like he lost his shirt in a bar fight. No real appeal to the vast majority of buyers of the WWE product. And that includes a lot of legends collectors. Was Magnum more important, more talented, etc than Doink. I don't know, we'll just say for argument sake that he was. But he's got nothing to offer.
And I'm sorry, but why would people want to have to research someone just to feel justified in buying his figure? Either you're a completist and you will buy him anyway or you'll pass on him because he predates most of us, and he wrestled for a company before it hit its peak. Maybe if the guy could've managed some wrestlers well into the Monday Night Wars era then he'd have more recognition, but he pretty much dropped off the face of the wrestling earth after the mid-80s.
Again, I'm sorry to say this, but to quote The Replacements, Magnum TA isn't a has been, he's a never was. It may have been the injury that kept him out, but he was kept out. Just like an old high school football player we all thought was soooo special and "would've gone pro if he didn't tear up his knee" or "do drugs." We love the idea of a guy who COULD have been a super star. This , mattels a business, unless they release him as a B.A.F or a mail away as a courtesy to the older generation of fans then they are just going to lose lots of money on this one. I hope they find a way to get this figure to you guys but It seems like a very bad idea to put him in flashbacks or even on mattycollector which would be the final nail in that coffin and pretty much gaurantee them never taking a chance on M.C ever again guys getting upset that the younger fans wont take the time to watch older magnum t.a matches and immortalize the man like you already have, relax, i for one and many here have watched lots of wrestling before my prime but personally magnum t.a never interested me. thats like trying to tell kids now that they should quit loving john cena and start watching buddy rogers and dick the bruiser and immortalize them because thats when wrestling was best. you sound like old farts lol. come on... for real? magnum unfortunatly just never made it, you can post all the 'younger generation fans need to' posts but it will never change a thing. Take it for what it is. Magnum T.A is very unknown in todays wrestling market, he might be very deserving but would probably be the most unrecognizable figure to todays market. its a shot in the dark and you may get lucky and get him but you may not. just keep it simple and dont blame the younger generation for magnum t.a's lack of popularity. he could have been a manager or something, instead he dropped off tv all together before he could get famous

WOW 6 pages of Magnum T. A. debate and el Bandalero didn't chime in yet?!
Y'know I have to be honest and say that Magnum isn't my most favourite wrestler of all-time. But I appreciated his place in history and it's a travesty that none of these toy companies have immortalized him in miniature plastic yet.
My beef with all those Bills that work at Mattel is that they spent production dollars to get a painted-proto of this guy, hired a photographer to take product-shots of this guy, used an in-house graphics designer to photoshop the figure on packaging artwork - then just dropped him completely. It's like the GobbeldyGooker - invest so much time and money in a one-off, but unlike the Gooker, the crowd isn't split 50/50 I think it's safe to conclude that more people want Magnum than not (at least on these boards).
Mattel doesn't care about this part, but the figure itself is great for customs - the vest can be re-used for Sid, the whole body for a Scott Hall, the normal-sized cowboy boots for an endless amount of Texan wrestlers. Simply put the Magnum T. A. figure is a boon of possibilities like that Terry Funk buck figure was.
C'mon RSC I believe in you guys - please ask Mattel to release the Magnum T. A. as an exclusive - you guys did it for sling-arm Punk, youv'e got 100+ instant orders for Magnum T. A. already....

Legends 7 was supposed to be released until retailers didn't want anymore since they sold so poorly in stores. Like the Bills said, they are working on wrestlers and lines constantly so they had everything to go until they canceled the line.

Same thing with wrestling, but now it seems the youngsters don't care about what came before for the most part. Pretty sad, really, as there's some great footage available for free out there. You can't expect modern era fans to care about the guy. Especially, since he has no influence on the history of WWE. I'm not sure why you both would think otherwise. It's one thing to not be curious about guys like Hogan, Macho Man, Piper and Dibiase, but TA was an NWA guy that never transcended his territory because he tragically never got the chance. Dusty, Steamboat, Road Warriors, Flair, all crossed over and were immortalized. Additionally, a lot of older wrestling doesn't resinate with younger fans at all. The styles are completely different, and the business has evolved. I love Ric Flair, but I'd take 15 minutes of Austin Aries over an hour of Flair, any day of the week. I love the Chi Town Rumble match against Steamboat, one of my favorites, but I'd bet you a sh*t ton of money you would be hard pressed to find a room full of 2000 generation fans who could actually get through the match. Older fans are in the minority, at almost 28 years old, I'm starting to feel like a part of that group. The late 70's and the 80's are now a thing of the past, and it's now the 90's that are getting the "historic" attention, and more so the mid to late 90's. Which I could argue and believe is for good reason. I'm with you, I love going back and watching older stuff and seeing what made a guy highly regarded, but we have come a long way since tape trading days. Even now, when footage is more accessible than ever, the younger fans just don't have the interest. It's not their fault imo, and all we can do is reinforce to them that they are truly missing out. With all that being said, I still think the demand for Magnum is seriously marginal. Does he deserve one? Anyone who has ever seen him wrestle probably isn't going to dispute that, but that's not business. It's not that we don't want you to get the TA figure, it's that we don't want it to take up the space for a figure that is more widely wanted. If it was limited to 500 pieces on Ringside, great, but that isn't going to happen I don't think.

I think they mentioned more stuff going on Matty in the future. Magnum would be a great candidate for Mattycollector seeing how he was the 6th vote. Too bad they couldnt just put him in Elizabeths place but apparently DDP and Bundy did so bad that they "literally werent allowed to continue the program" (Any Wrestling fan who knew the current situation with wrestlingfigs could have called that one btw mattel) But whats stopping them from putting him on the site later as a one time offering of a single Legends fig? or maybe on mattelshop? ya also if he were a flashback he wouldnt peg warm at .5 per case because all the scalpers would buy him in store and online. i would argue that they should do what they did with nash. make some cases have red trunks and other cases have black trunks. i bet he would never pegwarm except on ebay

It's not that we don't want you to get the TA figure, it's that we don't want it to take up the space for a figure that is more widely wanted. Exactly this point. In a perfect world all our figure dreams would come true, but we are all jockeying for position now that our legends slots are so precious. As for the guy who compared Magnum to watching the NFL Hall of Fame, the only problem there is that Magnum isn't a hall of famer and never will be! When they talk about "the only wrestler to never wrestler in the WWE," they're talking about Sting, not Magnum, even though he didn't either. The reason this guy will get 6 or more pages of discussion is because guys either want him or they don't want him bumping out someone else. Even with all the bad gimmick choices Mattel has made of guys I otherwise loved (Slaughter, etc), I'd still take the field over Magnum TA any day and twice on Sundays. Like I said, he not a has been, he's a never was.

Simply put the Magnum T. A. figure is a boon of possibilities like that Terry Funk buck figure was. And that line of reasoning sold so many Terry Funks. I mean he flew off the shelves because he was such great custom fodder. Mattel would be crazy stupid not to do that again with Magnum TA.

I don't think we're advocating for him to be a Flashback - at least I'm not.
When Flashbacks first came out I'm sure I was all over him being a Flashback because the Legends line was dieing.
Right now it makes the most sense to make him an RSC Exclusive. And that's all I'm asking for. You guys got your masked Punk, and if SCSA is considered the modern-era guy that Tom eluded to as the next Exclusive, you got that too. But out of 3 slots a year, surely RSC can request Magnum T. A. for one of them. At a limited run of 500 you've got over 100 sales already just from posters on this board - what about the casual web surfer to your site?

You've got a 100 people to answer a hypothetical question that simply asked "would you buy Magnum TA?". Some people even said they'd buy multiples for customs and loose/MOC collections. But what happens when the price is announced? If RSC and Mattel go through the production cost for a limited run figure the cost to the consumer will be ASTRONOMICAL! Exclusives already cost a lot before you pay shipping. A figure with a 500 count run better sell out, and so far we're only 1/5 the way there. Would these same 100+ people who might be thinking $16.99 at retail buy him if he's $38.00 after shipping? You seem to think so. I doubt Mattel or RSC agrees.

But look at the popularity of CM Punk and Stone Cold Steve Austin vs the popularity of Magnum TA, in 2011/2012. Additionally, at 500 pieces for Ringside, I would guess that you would be paying $50 or higher a piece for that figure. I think Ringside said the exclusives were ordered in the low thousands, like 2-3,000. Maybe I'm wrong about that but I thought that is what they said awhile back. So if that is the case, then you have to look at who will pay more than $35 shipped, which is roughly the price of an exclusive now. Ringside has to believe they can make money off it. If 100 people want one, and they order 2000, they are going to end up selling them off at half price to even move the majority of the inventory. Lets say you can get 500 people to buy Magnum, what about the other 1500 or so figures. Again, this all comes down to order minimums and wholesale and retail cost, but you can't expect demand in the thousands for something that is wanted in the hundreds. And I would also have to question how many fans outside of this community really want that figure, given this is the devoted, more old school, collecting community. Little Jimmy's mom isn't grabbing a Magnum TA for him on Christmas.
