. Maybe as an exclusive it'd be profitable, but not in the regular Elite line. I never really understand this comment if it's released into mass retail than Mattel has already made their profits. They make no extra money from the retailer's sales. And even if he was a pegwarmer I'm sure it wouldn't kill the line because come the holiday season they'd move just like every other pegwarmer. PJ is hitting the nail right on the head so often in this thread. I seriously can't believe people think 1 figure, in limited release at retail, would actually kill or harm a line. Seriously, you're paranoid over absolutely nothing if you truly believe that. Just about every toy line will have a shelf warmer that some people love, and some people avoid. There is absolutely no way that Magnum as a FB, at .5 per case (and then phased out via revisions) would do ANY harm to the line. Mattel would have to skip the revisions, and stores would have to somehow get well over 10 cases each for this figure to be a true problem. It's pretty obvious that the bigger issue with people who don't want Magnum at retail is that they simply don't want to have to wait any longer for someone they do want. It has little to do with them "wanting whats best" for the line. With the downfall of Legends, people are shaking in their boots, waiting for Mattel to randomly say that FB has to go too. I can understand and appreciate that. But it's silly to act like people are totally nuts or selfish for wanting a figure that already "exists" to finally be squeezed into the line in a manner that isn't as risky as some make it out to be.

But I would gladly buy him if it meant I'd get a piece of Heenan, Bearer, Jimmy Hart, Mr. Fugi, Howard Finkle, 80s WWF ref, MEAN GENE etc while also getting something my personal collection longs for. Dear MDT, It only took 10 pages, but even the most cynical of collectors among us would be willing to purchase a Magnum T. A. if marketed the right way. chalk one more up for the good guys! Reasonable people CAN succumb to reason. I would spend 30 or even 40 dollars of my own money to buy Magnum TA if it meant I was also getting one of the 80s managers or announcers I loved, especially if the whole packaged deal got me some long-overdue repaints. Hell, I'd pay 150 bucks just for red LOD, Paul Bearer, and Magnum TA, but only if Magnum TA is necessary to have Bearer (or Heenan, Finkle, etc.) But you have to include Magnum in a set for people who could want him and the build-a-figure. A very good Heenan or Bearer is pretty essential to most legends collectors (right?). I think Heenan would KILL in a poll, btw. Some remember him as a manager, others an announcer. And Bearer with old school Undertaker is like peanut butter and jelly, to use that tired metaphor one more time. You tell me the only way I get these guys is to buy Magnum TA, then I'm buying Magnum TA. As much as I'd like to say "never," that just isn't true. I still think 100s of gimmicks could sell better, but his figure certainly does look like a white trash mullet man with cowboy boots, but the terrific thing is, so did Magnum TA. So it's a work of art. (Just not my kind of art.) But you twist my arm, and even I'll buy him.

At the end of the day, what Mattel needs to do is figure out how to get everybody what they want at the same time. A BAF series with Magnum, some iconic repaints, and a dynamic manager gives everybody something, and makes everyone who is serious about their legends collection buy into it. It's a fair trade for you to buy mine and me buy yours if that's how we can all get what we want.

I am interested to see what MDT has to say about this topic as it has obviously garnered a lot of attention. Please release this figure Mattel and I'd love to read a response from the MDT. Thanks in advance!

Can't believe I didn't see this thread before. Glad I did now. My collection still needs more Magnum. I'll take 2. Maybe 3.

please Mattel the need is still there - Magnum TA is tooled, release him! I honestly don't understand why Mattel wouldn't release something if all the front end work and tooling is already done. It seems like it would make more sense to go ahead and release it than to scrap it all together. It's not like we are asking to whip up a entirely new guy out of thin air. Hell, put it out in a plain white box with "collectors limited edition" in black letters if it helps save on packaging expenses and increases profit. I know this is a long shot too, but if Mattel or WWE have rights to the NWA united states belt and it was included with Magnum I'm sure it would sell just for the belt collectors out there.

its not like its special tooling that they are scrapping.
Its just the head on a Terry Funk figure.....w/ Akeem boots...and hacksaw legs.
I've reached out to tons of ppl about doing a custom.
The demand just isn't there. When push came to shove, Bandalero is the only one that put his money where his mouth is.

The pic Mattel showed is a great looking figure, for the Legends line. Unfortunately, that line did not do well at retail. I liked watching Magnum compete, but I wouldn't shell out $20 for him. There are so many more recognizable people that I would like to see Mattel do first.

I'd buy a Magnum. The guy was way over back in the day. I'd like to see a Magnum, a Masked Superstar, a Mr Wrestling and Mr Wrestling II. Among many others. Love the old school stuff I grew up watching.
