I thought this will make an interesting topic as wrestling figures have came a long way, they weren't always the in scale, accurate, articulate pieces of excitement we have now.
What was your first ever wrestling (any brand) figure you ever got and what made you want to buy a wrestling toy?
Mine was the WCW/nWo Smash and Slam Wrestlers: Hollywood Hogan!
I was 8 at the time and I would always see these wrestling figures that looked cool, but I wouldn't buy them because I didn't exactly follow wrestling. Then one day after schoomenu mom and I go to K-Mart and she tells me I can choose any toy I want. I was looking at the Marvel and DC toys, then I come across the wredtling section where they had the cool looking WCW figures that moved when you swieazed their legs and I just couldn't resist. I wanted to get the coolest looking one of the bunch, which happened to be Hollywood Hogan (I had absolutely no idea who he was but he just looked "cool").
Later that night I rented a WCW VHS (WCW World War 3 1998) because I wanted to see what the fuss was about. I watched it with my mom and grandfather, who used to watch some sort of wrestling back in the 70s. I remember everytime a wrestler that was on the back of my figure carding came on the screen, I would act all pro like I was watching him my whole life lol. However the VHS had Hogan on the cover and I was upset that he wasn't in the event:(.
Anyways so I open up the Hogan figure the next morning and try to hide it from my dad who did not like me buying toys. But he catches me and when he saw it I was like "oh crap". He starts laughing and telling me how he used to watch Hulk Hogan in the 80s and how he ripped his shirt everytime he came to the ring.
Anyways that's how I got into wrestling, if it wasn't for the figure I might have never liked wrestling!
Ps: the week after I rented another video which had Hogan and could you imagine the shock on my face when he took of the bandanna and was bald! Lol but I didn't care I thought that made him more awesome lol.
Anyways I would love to know what was your first ever wrestling figure and why you got it?
It doesn't have to be as long as mine lol.
