I was there. The fans were smacking him in the head and pushed him MULTIPLE times. Punk turned around and said over and over again he will retaliate if someone hits him again. So he did. It was in self defense.

This video you can see it clearly. You can see a fan touch Punk, but Punk strikes the wrong person!
The guy who Punk didn't do anything in this video the only person who I can see touching Punk is the guy in the V neck.

Was there tonight. Wasn't on TV, but the guy slapped Punk in the back of the head.

that, and punk for that. Theres a barricade for a reason. CM Punk is the first person to know that you respect the guardrail, that draws the line between performer and spectator. I know, I witnessed him beg a fan to jump the rail so he can "legally beat the out of you". When he, As a HEEL WWE Champion, jumps the rail while in the closing segment of the show (therefor, the most emotionally invested segment) and does so without pre-planning security to be his aid, then he has no right to retaliate to fans touching him. Whats good for the goose is good for the gander. However, should he have been aggressively touched by a fan (I dont consider a "push" to be aggressive. Punk is guilty of that as well, to get to that spot in the crowd), then he has the right to defend himself. Although retaliating on the wrong fan is just as wrong and Punk deserves punishment. My verdict: Punk is guilty. There was a camera on Punk the entire time, so if WWE wants to, they can defend punk and find the point of contact that justified retaliation. But that aside, Punk being a guy with a Very short fuse, had no business putting himself in a position where he was primed up to be provoked. Punk wasn't the least professional in that bit. He's a performer as well - What the hell do you think is going to happen when you tell a fan Not to do something when you came into their side of town? Let me set up the way it should have been handled, with another true story: The same show I described above, also featured Randy Orton. He was Heel and when he came by, a couple people slapped him on the back. Im talking almost a chop/5-star. Not just normal pats on the back. Orton leaned over to the security, and said something along the lines of "You better get control of these fans". THAT is how you handle fans who dont know their spot. Just because the fans are wrong, doesnt mean someone in Punk's situation is Right.

i hope this doesnt get into a lawsuit type situation.
Punk's my favorite but I feel for the fan especially if he wasn't the one smacking Punk.

I think that Punk was in the right here. If the fan was slapping him in the back of the head and almost pushing him down the stairs then the fans deserve to get jacked in the mouth. Not too mention Punk has fought fans in the indies before. He's got a temper.

Heres the clearest vid of the altercation. The fan behind that fan pushes him into Punk twice. On the second occasion Punk took action. He shouldn't have done it but its was really a misconception.

At first I was like "oh crapthat's the wrong guy," but then you see the most recent video and the guy behind Punk clearly pushed him twice, and the third time was just a bump...though that third time I think the guy was pushed by someone behind him. Punk obviously shouldn't retaliate but he was clearly defending himself so he didn't fall down the stairs.

EDIT I just re watched it and you can see the guy behind the one that got punched was the one pushing CM Punk

It looks like the guy that got hit is getting bump from behind and that caused him to bump into Punk. I'd be real pissed if I was that guy.

The fan hit him twice, doesn't matter if it was an accident or not, it was a retaliation, not to mention he hit him off the steps and had been hit multiple times by other fans and told them to stop.

Let's just established that the fan who got hit is Laker fan (as he's wearing a Lakers shirt). From that last video posted, it seems like Laker fan was pushed into Punk after Punk has already been roughed up by a couple of other fans. Laker fan clearly approaches Punk because it appears he wants to be on TV. HOWEVER, behind Laker fan comes another fan in a white shirt. You can see that the fan in white is the one who is flipping the bird behind Punk's back and ultimately it is he who slaps him in the head. Laker fan just happened to be between the two and Laker fan also happened to have been shoved into him.
