After playing online for some time but only getting up to level 9 with bugger all money and constantly being on the lookout for other people playing who literally just want to kill me for the sake of me having the audacity to even go online, I'm wondering is $500,000 worth it?
I'm not the biggest advocate of online gaming, but as I love the GTA series and went all out for this game I gave it a shot - but I am massively underwhelmed and I'm not sure if that's because of how I play or naively believing that people playing nearby won't actually decide to kill me just for funsies.

R* just posted on their fb page asking if people want to have their own pets in GTA: Online. It's funny because I was just thinking about this earlier and then I come across this. I really hope they make it happen.

You could try playing with passive mode on. But I agree about people just killing for the fun of it. It was the same way in Red Dead.

You don't have to join other people's session either. You can not only create your own free roam session, but make it invite only as well.

I've never been randomly killed by someone in a session yet, the only people who've killed me for shits and giggles so far have been my friends. (It's not like I ran them over during a mission or anything.)

Anytime I even drive anywhere near another player they always try to gun me down. I killed someone the other day 16 times in a row because they just wouldn't give up trying to kill me.

Yeah I don't think I've ever had a problem with other players (besides friends haha). I normally keep one eye on the map anyway for a few things which now include where other people are so if I'm robbing something then I wanna be away from others. I also do friend only sessions, if I really wanna just wander round on my own it's great for that and if friends are online then it's still fun as I usually just avoid others anyway.

I understand fellas, and appreciate the feedback, but at the moment every single time I've been online someone's killed me and when I do Passive Mode, it sucks as I can't pull out a gun to rob a store or something like that.
I'm trying to get the best experience out of this and sadly because I don't have any online friends (and if I do, they're not online when I play) so I'm getting used to playing golf by myself, or getting beaten in every race I compete in, that's why I go in a session with other people. Maybe I should try that method, se if that helps.
I'm only at level 9 and have bugger all money like I mentioned. I experienced similar dramas with people killing me on Red Dead Redemption, so I'm an easy target I guess.
Thanks guys

It's a little unnerving constantly having to look out for other "blips" on the map, and it's frustrating when you get caught up in someone's (or several someone's) random mayhem, but it also adds to the excitement when going about my business or trying to beat others to crate drops, bounties, etc.

If it wasnt for the mayhem online it would be pointless. If you want peace, play single player.

There's a difference in "being gunned down" as you worded it, and then being spawn killed 6 times in a row as I was tonight. Luckily when I played last before tonight, I banked all my money so no one was able to rob me, but still. There's playing the game, and then there's purposely going out of your way to ruin someone else's experience because you wanna be a dick.

Go into passive mode or like, ya know, a private lobby that way you are safe in free roam but can still do activities with people.

It's all part of multiplayer, everyone has their own way of playing. Personally, I'm more of a 'I won't shoot you if you won't shoot me' player but if someone does shoot me then I'm going to keep going after that person.

There have been a couple of times where I've killed other gamers just for getting too close to me wihout knowing their intentions. On the other hand, somehow I was gunned down while shopping at Ammunation. Still don't understand that one. Sometimes it's fun, like on Saturday I was targeted by a couple of guys working as a team. Had a fun back-and-forth for about 20 minutes or so. Also had a maddening half hour where a different couple of guys were relentless in hunting me down as soon as a I respawned. Eventually I respawned in an area I was really familiar with so I was able to stay out the way when the car came through and sticky-bombed it. Sadly I was still too close when I detonated it, but we respawned with enough distance between us that I was able to get away from them for good. Still need to get revenge on a crew member of mine for jumping out of my car on the way to a mission. Left me to fend for myself, then killed me afterwards to cash in on a bounty. Hard to blame him too much, as it was $9,000, but I don't think I'd do that to someone on my crew.

My friend had a bounty on him last night so he decided to park his chopper on a really tall building so I landed my chopper on the maze bank and sniped him in the chest and he fell off to his death. It was hilarious and I collected the bounty. Shame he didn't find it funny at all.

Also got gunned down the first time I left my apartment. No idea how long the guy was standing out there waiting for someone to come out, but that seemed to be an unusually dickish move, so I immediately hunted him down when I respawned.

I tend to get guys waiting outside my garage when I spawn.
Honestly, lately I just load up an invite only session and load missions from there. But for some reason death matches are still missions...

The worst are the guys that as soon as you get done playing the mission with them and you all spawn, they try to kill you. I had one guy try that, but I was in passive mode. So, I got my car and ran him down and then kept backing over him until he died.
