Well, the Smith/Allmendinger/Dillon trio for the #51 will have to find new plans after the Brickyard. Phoenix Racing owner James Finch has no plans to enter any races after that. He said he wants to leave racing altogether, after a now-combined 776 starts between Nationwide and Sprint Cup. Lack of a long-term sponsor was cited as the main reason, plus Finch's age - he's 62 - and he wants to do something else with his time now. He also doesn't want to sink every penny he has into the team, as he's been footing the bill personally, with the lack of sponsorship on the #51. In other news, Jeff Gordon will make his 700th career start. That's 700 consecutive starts too, mind you. Could there be a new Iron Man in NASCAR? Ricky Rudd is the holder of that title with 788 consecutive starts. After the 2013 season, Jeff will be about a season and a half away from the record. I hope he gets it. Always liked Jeff. First real favorite driver and I'll always be a fan. James Finch said he wouldn't race this season. Until he stops saying he's going to leave and actually leaves.. it's just words. He also found small blocks of sponsorship, something he said he needed to do, to run this year. And then when you got a kid like Austin Dillon finding every sponsor on the car for a race like he did at Texas, but then he doesn't run more than two races...it won't help you.

We heard the same needing sponsorship to run more races when Kurt was driving in 2012, too. Like I said... Finch will make these comments time and time again and nobody will believe it until it actually happens.

Keselowski and Logano points penalties and fines upheld, the suspensions were reduced from 6 points paying races plus the All-Star Race [totaling 7 races altogether] to just 2 points paying races plus the All-Star Race, for a total of 3 races. The seven suspended crew members between the #2 & #22 will be eligible to return when the Sprint Cup Series rolls into Dover.
Kenseth appeal to be heard tomorrow.

I am hopeful that means that all of Ratcliff's suspended races will be overturned then, either in the first or final appeal. At this point.. skip the first one and go straight to Middlebrooke.

I know Stewart chose 14 because of Foyt but not sure if he or Stewart (or Harvick) have any ties to #4. Kevin Harvick ran the number 4 car in Nationwide a couple of times, and Tony ran the number 4 car for KHI in Nationwide a couple of times also, so it fits.

JGR Penalties Amended: - Points Penalty Reduced To Driver/Owner Standings to 12 (down from 50) - Jason Ratcliff suspension reduced to one race, but his monetary fine remains intact for the original amount. - Joe Gibbs license as an owner of the #20 team was rescinded allowing him to run for owners championship with the 20 team. - Toyota's Manufacture Points penalty was INCREASEd from five to seven points.
Matt is now fourth in points standing and his win from Kansas DOES all the victory to apply toward wild-card eligibility. -----
100% the right call by the appeal board.

Something I just noticed, why doesnt Kurt Busch and Furniture Row Motorsports have any of the contingency sponsors? You would think that a low budge team would need/want this and wouldnt want to just be driving around with a blank car.

I am really not sure, they didn't go to Pole Award set-up because they don't run the sticker.

I know the Pole Award has been disputed at times, like where Petty cars refuse to use any Alcoholic sponsorship and I believe it was Rusty back in the early 90s refused to put the decal on his car because it was a Bud Decal on a Miller Genuine Draft car.....Not sure why Kurt/FRMS dont run it or other decals though. Makes the car look like a test car.

Well Kyle got away with putting Kasey in the wall...tired of him. They showed a clear image of Kasey leaving the pits, he didnt have any damage to his rear. It was just Kasey over driving and the positioning of Kyle taking the air off the car. You cant blame Kyle for any of that really.

Meh. It looked like there was a puff of smoke off the left rear when it happened. In any case, I'm glad Kyle fell like a stone. And another Top Ten for Jr. tonight. He's got a very consistent car this year.

Guess Matt Kenseth will be the same way Kyle Busch was in 2008; given the best equipment.

He was winning the most races, leading the most laps, top fives, top tens, etc. for Gibbs. It's shaping to be a similar situation with Matt at this point.

It's shaping to be a similar situation with Matt at this point. I think it just comes down to Kyle is/was a better driver then Hamlin & Logano. Hamlin is a 50/50 driver, you never know what you're going to get week in and week out. Logano, i still think sucks. He's never been more then like 15th in points at the end of the season. Im not a fan of Kyle's by any means but I would have easily taken him out of the three drivers the past few years. Now that Kennseth is there, JGR has 2 legit drivers that can compete. Just imagine if Kenseth would have been the one that moved to Hendricks and the 88 instead of Jr.....Hendricks might not ever lose a race.

Lee Dodson, a crew member for MWR's #15 team, has been terminated - effective immediately. Dodson, along with a crew member of another team were both indefinitely suspended for violating NASCAR's Substance Abuse Policy. MWR has a zero tolerance policy on that matter and Lee was immediately terminated by MWR.
Some teams were at my home track, testing today. Nos. 10, 14, 39, 1, 42, and 13 in the NSCS, and the NNS saw the Nos. 3, 33, 2, 12, and 22 testing the Monster Mile. All those teams will return on May 15 to test again, and Penske's NNS teams will stick around for an additional day of testing on the 16th.
