Bad news/good news. Overeem is out of the Dos Santos fight due to an undisclosed injury. The rumoured replacement...? - It is still unclear whether the UFC will ask Junior dos Santos to fight a new opponent at UFC 160 now that Alistair Overeem is injured, but one thing is for certain: if Twitter is any kind of guide, the fans' unanimous choice to fight dos Santos in a little over two months is one man:
Mark Hunt.
"If I get the call for the fight, I'm there, of course," Hunt told MMAFighting.com Wednesday night, "and the fans are crazy for it, so it's good."
Hunt, who just knocked out Stefan Struve on Saturday at UFC on FUEL TV 8, didn't know about Overeem's injury, however, when he was asked about whether he would be interested in fighting the former UFC heavyweight champion in a little over two months, he didn't hesitate.
"Sounds like a pretty good idea to me," Hunt said in his typical casual way. "I'm not injured. I'm always down for a battle.
"I was born down. You know this."
Hunt (9-7) has won his last four fights in a row.

I think Junior would wreck Mark Hunt. I'm not saying it wouldn't be a good fight, I just believe Junior would pummel Hunt. JDS is unquestionably quicker and is in much better shape than Hunt. I believe he could also have a strength advantage too. Unless Hunt catches Junior early I don't think he would win this fight.

JDS vs. Overeem is gonna be pushed back till Summer. Good. This gives Mark Hunt a chance to fight someone else because I don't think he's ready for Junior yet. I'd like to see him fight Big Country first. I think that one would be a war!!

Regardless of what anyone thinks of his MMA record, everyone HAS to give props to Mark Hunt for stepping up and improving this late in his career. Its crazy, and he deserves a ton of credit. He goes out there to fight always!

I wouldn't blame him if he did either, even though I'd like to still see him fight JDS.

Am I alone in thinking that Hunt looked dissapointed after his fight with Struve, he might be fixing up a couple things he didn't like about his performance

Dana White tweeted not long ago: "Mark Hunt and I just got off the phone and had a GREAT conversation!".
Hmmm...

Dos Santos also stated on Instagram that an opponent can also get injured in the summer so that he's training for a fight in May

- All's well that ends well for Mark Hunt.
A day after UFC president Dana White said Hunt turned down a fight against Junior dos Santos at UFC 160, "The Super Samoan" got the fight he wanted following a phone conversation with White Thursday night.
As a result, Hunt will now meet dos Santos on May 25 in Las Vegas. White confirmed the news with MMAFighting.com Saturday morning.
When contacted by MMAFighting.com, an ecstatic Hunt called the opportunity "my title shot." Hunt, who denied ever directly turning down the opportunity, was pleased with the outcome of the call, as was White. They would not discuss exactly what they spoke about.
An opening presented itself for Hunt after Alistair Overeem pulled out of the fight due to a quadriceps injury. Immediately after the Overeem news broke, Hunt told MMAFighting.com that he was willing and ready to fight dos Santos later this year.
No word just yet who Overeem will now face next or when he will return to action. Sources close to "The Reem" said he was shooting for a July return to the Octagon.
Hunt (9-7) enters the bout riding a four-fight winning streak following his knockout of Stefan Struve last Saturday night, while dos Santos (15-2) is coming off a heavyweight title loss to Cain Velasquez in December.
UFC 160, headlined by Cain Velasquez vs. Antonio Silva 2, will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Hunt vs. dos Santos will serve as the co-main event.

Hunt has only ever been KO'ed by one man -- middleweight Melvin Manhoef. Not saying its IMPOSSIBLE that JDS could win by KO, I'm just saying it'd be huge.

If JDS is working his cardio like I think he's doing after the Cain fight, then Hunt could be in some trouble stamina wise. If not, I see no reason why he couldn't hand in there with Junior the same way Nelson did.

Bittersweet for me, I like me some Mark Hunt and really want to see him continue to succeed, but Junior Dos Santos is my favourite fighter. And after the mauling JDS received in his last fight, I'll be pulling for him to have a strong showing and eventually get his title back.
Should be great though.

If not, I see no reason why he couldn't hand in there with Junior the same way Nelson did. He hasn't got bad cardio, he got rocked badly, and almost finished multiple time that alone tires a man with the best cardio. Plus he was against a grinding wrestler like Velasquez. Been hearing people question his cardio constantly after that fight, he'll be fine in that area.
