I thought this would be an interesting thread, what characters from TV Shows do you think died too soon and why? So obviously there may be spoilers in this thread.
Lost - Boone: There are other characters that I think died way too soon (Charlie, Eko, Ana and Shannon spring to mind) but his just seemed pointless. It was supposed to fuel the heat between Jack and Lock, but that only literally lasted about 20 minutes in one episode. He was one of the most interesting characters at the start of the show, and I felt lost generally went downhill after his death. I guess that's what you get when you write a show episode by episode without long term plans for all the characters like they did with Lost. It also meant that Shannon was doomed as her entire character was just a sub-plot for Boone in the first place.
Desperate Housewives - Rex: Yeah I watched this show (lol). He was probably the most prominent male cast member on the first season, and after he died Bree ended up in some of the worst storylines in the entire show.
Californication - Lew Ashby: He and Hank had really great on screen chemistry, I would have liked to have seen him for more than just the Second Season.
There are probably some that I'm forgetting. What are some of yours?

Tasha Yar:Star Trek TNG
it obviously worked out well for Worf but man did this shock me when TNG started airing here in 1990 when I was ten.
John Winchester in Supernatural
I thought Johns character had a lot more to offer popping up here & there.

I can only really think of Prue from Charmed but the reason she was killed was because Shannon wasn't getting along with Alyssa..

Dexter Spoiler:
Officer Doakes. I wish they would have saved that storyline for later seasons. His interactions with Dexter were pure gold, and I would have liked to seen more than we got.

Ned Stark. They killed the best character in the entire series in the first season imo. Sean Bean was incredible in that role too. Easily one of my favorite tv characters of all time.
I'd agree with Doakes as well. That had a time table though because Doakes had Dexter figured out so quickly. The only way to keep him around was put him behind bars or kill him.
Kate from White Collar is another one for me.

**SPOILERS** Tony Blundetto from Sopranos Any Steve Buscemi character that dies, dies too soon. Hes just awesome. Richie Aprille and Adriana were always two characters that died too soon from the Sopranos. On a separate note, what about actors from tv shows that died too soon? One that hit me the hardest was Bill Bixby from the Incredible Hulk series. He just seemed like the nicest guy ever and i loved that show.

I'll also throw in Khal Drogo from Game of Thrones. I mean all things considered, Khaleesi probably needed to be on her own to progress her character, but I think Jason Momoa is awesome.

Dale from the Walking Dead. He lived a lot longer in the comics and was my favorite character on the show

Also Dale, Shane and Andrea in The Walking Dead. Only good character left is Glenn. If he dies, I'M OUT.

I was surprised Danny Glover and Maria Bello ended up dying in Touch halfway through their respective seasons.
His loss didn't hurt the Covert Affairs too much in retrospect, but I was very surprised they blew up Jai (Sendil Ramamurthy).
Still kinda bothers me they killed off Cotton Hill.

Agreed, they kill off too many great characters on this show. Khal Drogo was also a great character on the show that died to soon. If anyone doesn't know what happens at the end of season 3 prepare to be disappointed again! Also have to mention Andea in The Walking Dead, that one caught me by surprise.

While we're naming off Walking Dead characters, I'd say Merle died too soon. They had a lot of potential with him being forced to live side by side with the prison group, but he sat around and did nothing until the episode he died in.

Charlie in Lost... sure, it was a few seasons in, but he was one of the best characters on the show.
And Marissa in The OC... still bitter about that one haha

Mr. Eko from LOST. I've watched all the seasons at least 4 times now and I still don't understand why they killed off a character with such potential and a good backstory at that. Plus he wasn't in the church at the end. I also agree with the Boone statement I would have loved to see his character play out some more. Towards his death his character really seemed brainwash and like a emotionless goon Locke had been using. Seems like he was turning into a dark character and could've became something much much more. For Charlie I think his death was fine. He was one of the best characters for the most memorable seasons. I think to most fans hes already immortalized as one of the best characters on the show. And just as a little fanboy thing for LOST also Mikhail (The Russian with an eyepatch from the others) To me his character was such a badass I would of loved learning his backstory more and seeing more than just 2-3 episodes before he went all grenade kamikaze on Charlie.
