So, Ben Affleck is set to star as Batman in the Man of Steel sequel, Warner Bros. has announced today.
No other news currently as this is still developing so more will come out over the next few days but it is official.
UPDATE 8/25/13:
"Sources say that Affleck has been signed for multiple movies, should sequels continue to proliferate. The talks were so secretive that many Warners execs and most WME agents remained unaware of their existence," claims The Hollywood Reporter. Talks with Affleck began earlier this year when director Zack Snyder checked Affleck's interest. Early talks circled around story and character.
THR says Affleck will shoot David Fincher's Gone Girl this September through February before segueing to shoot Man of Steel 2/Superman vs. Batman from February through August 2014. The superhero pic will reportedly lens in Toronto.
Affleck is expected to be doing pre-production work on his next directorial effort -- the Prohibition gangland film Live By Night, which he'll shoot next fall -- while simultaneously filming his Batman role.
The Man of Steel sequel opens July 17, 2015.

How can they choose someone that played another comic character already? Seems like a bad choice to me.

Love this choice. I'm absolutely fine with it.

Was Chris Evans not just in THE summer blockbuster of last year? To that point, has Jon Favreau NOT played two bumbling sidekicks, since we're invoking Daredevil to begin with?

I'm pretty good with it. Affleck's an incredibly capable actor, he looks the part, and he's definitely got respect for the source material.

I must have offended you somehow with my post..You take this forum thing serious, huh? Youre stating other movies and other actors.. This is about Batman and Afleck, not any of the stuff you mentioned so I dont see how any of it is relevant at all. Oh and btw, bad choice

I feel like invoking Ray Stevens here, too, since Volstagg the Voluminous was portrayed to perfection, and Ray Stevens isn't even voluminous to begin with. I also never got the inkling that Volstagg was going start rage killing retaliation for his family's deaths. That's what we call range, and I'll go out on an unpopular limb and say that Affleck has got more than Bale has. I must have offended you somehow with my post..You take this forum thing serious, huh? Oh and btw, bad choice Your reasoning for Affleck being a bad choice is that he already played a comic book character - thereby lending a ton of credence to the examples I gave. I didn't sway the subject - you laid it in place with your poor rationale.

Ben Affleck is a truly incredible director.
As an actor, however, he is about as charming and charismatic as a sponge. He cannot lead a film. The only role I've ever slightly enjoyed of his was in Hollywoodland where coincidentally he played George Reeves aka Superman. He is also far too big a name, people won't see Bruce Wayne, they'll see Ben Affleck.
I am also surprised they went for a guy who is past his prime and in his forties when they're pushing for a franchise. Maybe this is a big giant hollywood curve ball or something. Maybe he's directing/producing instead?

Better than Gosling would have been. I'm ok with this, he is a good actor.

LOL, this reminds me of 2007 when everyone was flipping a tit of Heath Ledger getting cast as Joker and how he would never do the role justice and will never be as good as Jack Nicholson. Its a weird cast choice but hes a decent actor. I say shut up and wait.
