I highly doubt either of them would have went to TNA Why? It was the logical path after Vince threw them to the 'C' show. My gut just says they wouldn't have.

Good topic,
I say Benoit may have been retired or at least had a shot and undertakers streak; same with Eddie.

I would be inclined to believe Batista as he has absolutely nothing to gain or lose by saying Orton was going to win. WWE gets good publicity and the "feel good story" by saying Eddie was going to win. It adds to the drama/tragedy story about Eddie giving it a "feel good" ending that he over came everything in the end. Orton's problems never started until 2006. He had some minor heat on him from mid carders to jobbers in the locker room but nothing that was going to get him fired. This. Steph was simply trying to make fans happy. Eddie was working with Batista because Batista was dealing with some nagging injuries and Eddie was a safe worker. If anything Orton looked to be the one they were building to take the title from Batista until his personal problems caught up with him. Steph is one of the least credible people to believe in the wrestling industry. It has been said by multiple former writers that following WM20 she was saying that Eddie and Benoit wouldn't last as champs because they didn't have the "look" of a world champion. I am not sure about Eddie for the look. I am pretty sure Eddie's problem was the pressure of being Champion. IIRC the reason JBL even got the title was because Eddie was begging for them to take it off of him.

Honestly, when I saw this thread, I thought Benoit would be on a Jericho/RVD schedule and Eddie would have retired. I think Chavo would have been taken more seriously had Eddie not died. Perhaps you forget that Chavo Guerrero had just become Kerwin White about a week before Eddie died.

They were going to be put there so they could build talent. I don't think Benoit had a problem with that after being World Champion on the A show to US Champion on the B show inside of a year, especially since he was going to get an ECW World Title run there.

But in all seriousness, I'm pretty sure Eddie would've said something eventually. He wouldn't let his nephew do stupid stuff like that for long.

Simply put, if Eddie didn't pass away Benoit's depression wouldn't have gotten the best of him. I think Eddie for some reason kept Benoit grounded. When Eddie Guerrero passed away, Chris Benoit felt he lost a brother. After reading the chapter Chris Jericho had about Benoit in his second book, it paints a much clearer picture as to what happened. Benoit's depression started after Guerrero's death. Eddie usually kept Benoit grounded mentally and emotionally. After his death, Benoit wasn't the same. Its sad reading the last time he saw Brnoit alive was at Eddie's funeral. Jericho later notes that Benoit wasn't there emotionally. With all things considered, Benoit and Guerrero not only became friend's but their relationship was more of a brother-brother deal.

Steph was the one who apparently didn't think Benoit and Eddie had the look of a world champ....whatever that means. I've never understood this supposed "look" one must have to be a world champ. As long as the fans are into the guy I believe that most stars could be a believable world champ.

I wish Benoit didn't kill himself or his family. I would rather he have died of a heart attack and let Nancy take his son.

I would have liked to see the feud between Chris Benoit and CM Punk over the ECW Championship. I'm sure those two could of put on a bunch of decent matches. It's a shame that it never happened.
Plus, I'm sure Eddie Guerrero would have had a few more short title reigns before he probably just dropped to a part-time schedule sort of like what Y2J and RVD have now.
