I'm just tired of this whole race thing, why can't we just be people? So am I. But the fact is, as with anything, acting like it doesn't exist does nothing. Now it ain't the 60's out there but I'm not gonna sit and act like since everyone can vote and drink from the same water fountain that everyone's on a level playing field. I wish it weren't a "thing" either, but it is and always will be. And for the record, I'm referring to racism in all forms, against all ethnicities. I hate America's general mentality towards Arabs and Hispanic people too. I know but I am so tired of it. I had no idea that it was still so ugly and alive when I was a kid, just goes to show it's taught not something you're born with.

Well I probably could have been more clear. I mean in a recreational or casual setting under any circumstances. I agree with the examples you gave. What I don't agree with is the "you guys say it all the time, why can't we?". Like, are you really that dense as to why it's not a term one should go around saying? Is it a double standard? Absoultely. But it doesn't change the fact that it'll never be okay for a white person to just blurt it out. I'm just tired of this whole race thing, why can't we just be people? Well, that's where the N word comes into play. There is no way to get around the race thing. Using it in a casual tone is insult to a culture, it's ancestors, and the history of many nations. As long as there are those who remember feel the sting of oppression in the word, it will be hurtful whether you mean it as such or not. Furthermore, if you're ignoring the history of the word, why use it at all? To ignore the history of the word, you ignore it's meaning, and it simply becomes a filler word. At that point, why not just say, "What's up, pineapple?" In my experience, those who don't understand this concept have never felt bigotry towards themselves. I don't mean things like, "You're a nerd;" I'm talking about racial or sexual prejudice, something that you can't control. And, while, yes, you could argue that you can't help being a nerd if that's who you are, but it's different. There aren't millions of cases of people being murdered for being a nerd. Now, for those saying, "I'm not racist; I didn't have slaves," that's irrelevant. The fact that it happened in the past does not change that it is still a problem today. As for those who believe that just because blacks have gained the right to vote in the 60s think that means equality, I'd remind you that the murder of James Byrd, Jr. is happened within many of our lifetimes. Not only that, but even in so-called modern "mixing pot" societies like New York, there are still ridiculously high instances of racial profiling. I'm lucky in the sense that I don't look Jewish, but I've still had to deal with my fair share of racism and bigotry. Trust me, even the slightest things, such as "I got Jewed," still sting, even though the bites have been devenomized.

I don't want you to think my opinion of you has changed at all, @monoxide23; I just don't think you really understand things first hand. Most white Americans think that the fight against racism is a sure fire win, but if you ask the majority of minorities, they'd tell you different. Also, for the record, the N word: . Now, a Jewish slur; Kike. ed up.

Hollister. I went to the Mall yesterday. It's 15 degrees and snowing heavily yet the kids in that store are wearing shorts and flip flops. I just wanted them to go F them selves.

- People who stand in the way of those who are in a hurry on escalators.-People who walk on the wrong side of the sidewalk and then refuse to move to the side when you're walking toward them. -Cars that go to turn when you're clearly crossing the road. -People who casually drive their bikes on the road...Just use the sidewalk. You're slowing traffic down. -Women who appear somehow greatly offended when you hold the door open for them or are kind to them in some capacity. -People who speak loudly on their cellphones on the bus. Do you really think we want to hear your conversation or that the person on the other side is deaf? I'm sure there are many others since I'm generally irritated by everything. • People who think that since they're in a hurry it should somehow mean something to me.

If you truly want to get by it's as simple as saying Excuse me. I wouldnt mind moving aside to let you by. Just dont think that people care that you poorly managed your time. It's like when you're driving and someone tailgates you. If you tailgate me all you will get is me going slower.

Target in the Clearview Mall in Metairie, Louisiana is like that. Escalator and elevator, but no stairs. That didn't take any thinking on my part, so I'm sure I could come up with more examples. That being said, I still agree with you. When I'm on an escalator, I'm holding onto both railings for better balance. I'll gladly move to let someone by if they want, but I'm not going to risk my safety in the off chance someone is going to be impatient and mute. (I have bad knees that fail on me sometimes; I'm not a crazy person that wears a helmet out to avoid falling pinecones.)

It's fire code that dictates they need to have stairs. Like you Ben, sometimes I like holding on to both sides of the rails. I dont mind letting someone pass by.

It does for elevators, but I've honestly never seen the stairs. Plus, as Mitch Hedberg said, when an escalator breaks down, they should put up a sign that says, "Escalator temporarily stairs. Sorry for the convenience." Also, ZTJ lives in Canada, so the fire code laws might be different.
