Hey everyone, I just joined the forum & recently started collecting figures again. My wife bought me basic Daniel Bryan & Brock Lesnar figures for Chrismas as a joke I guess. She struck out with Lesnar cause I really don't care for him but she knew I love Bryan. That's all it took to get me collecting cause I always find myself browsing the toy isles and wrestling with the idea. As a kid I only got figures for Christmas & Birthdays, etc.But now that I'm grown with my own money & means of transportation, I am finding myself getting addicted really fast! Its only been a month since I decided to begin collecting and I have around 25 basic figures & a ring. I cant decided if I want to collect Elite figures cause I don't care for the accessories or the way the midnsection looks. Enough rambling. Bottom line is im finding myself hitting anywhere from 3-7 stores a day to hunt & check if they re-stock. With the amount of money I've speant so fast I'm wondering what is considered healthy? How often do you guys check stores & how many figures do you usually buy on a regular basis? I would appreciate any tips that may help me pace myself. I just feel like I might miss a figure I'm looking for. The day before I started collecting again K-Mart had just loaded all the shelves with the newest figures. I went back the very next day and it was mostly gone with the acception of a few shelf warmers. Help me, im getting out of controll lol.

Put yourself on a budget. Only spend what you deem necessary. You don't want to go out of control and buy everything you see (as much as you'd like to). Just buy the ones you like, and make sure your bills are paid before anything.
When I started I got sucked into the thrill of the hunt and checked stores almost daily. Now I only really search if I know that there's something out there that I really like, and I feel like I *need* to hunt for it.

Buy whatever you want as long as you can afford it. And don't sacrifice the kid's milk and eggs for the latest Macho Man elite figure.

I just leave my debit card in my wallet, close my eyes, and pretend I'm in my happy place.
In all seriousness, I know how you feel. I was the same. I just opened up to reality and realized there are more important things to utilize your money with than your hobby.

Thanks guys..Appreciate the advice. I was wondering if most figures seem to eventually show up in stores or are certain ones in each series harder to find? Also do you find most stores wait untill the shelves are empty to re-stock or do they donit weekly/monthly or something. Any patterns you've picked up on. Thsnks.

I agree. You should set a budget. I used to go hunting every 1 or 2 weeks when I first started collecting. Although the first Mattels I bought were purchased online. I like to know the lineups for the upcoming series. For example, I know the Wrestlemania Elites & Elite 27 are coming out soon, so I might only get the elites from series 26 that I really want knowing I'm going to spend more money on series 27.

Set a budget. And remember, you can't eat action figures.

I'm on a pretty tight budget for new figures myself, so I stick to buying only the ones I really like.
As far as finding some in stores... Yes, most definitely some figures will be way harder to find in stores than others. Lost of reasons for that. Your location, store policies and practices, popularity of the figure, number of figures in each case, etc... I can sometimes be a crapshoot to be honest. In my particular area, I can't ever seem to find divas figures or real popular legends, but I see John Cena, Sheamus, and The Miz figures everywhere (note: I collect elites almost exclusively, so I really pay attention to those most).
Re-stocking really depends on the store itself. Just for example, there's two Walmarts in my area. One will restock pretty regularly. The other only seem to do so twice a year (I may be exaggerating that a bit, but they really don't do it very often at all). I also seem to live in an area that gets series late. Just started to see Elite 25s show up in mid-January. If you have a go to store that you buy at, it doesn't hurt to ask someone who works there when they typically get shipments and how often they restock certain sections.

I think if you just started, you may want to play a bit of catchup. But after that you could slow down a bit.

My method is to ask my wife if it's okay if I buy something, then pout when she says no.

First time figures are hard to find. For example, Fandango & Big E's figures are their 1st ones so will be difficult to get.

Great comments. Thanks again guys. I guess im not that bad cause my wife hasn't got upset yet. I've been pretty good at only buying figures if I can afford it. I just felt like I was hitting stores too often. At this point I think I have got everything I can out of my local stores and other than a few figures my next step is to get some older ones online. I really want the basic Warriors, Macho Mans, etc. It was hard for me to find Fandango but I just got one this week. Trying to track down a Langston. I'm also trying to cut back on my other addictions such as coffe, etc so I can buy more figures. Happy hunting and thanks for being so helpfull.

The beginning of the hobby is the most fun, but also the most dangerous. Catching up on all the older stuff is a thrill. But as long as your bills are paid and your family is taken care of.

Like most people have mentioned a budget is key. As you said, you're grown with your own money and means of transportation, which means if you have the money and means, and it makes you happy, go for it.
All the driving around you're doing is part of the fun and excitement of the hunt. Eventually, you will have picked up what you wanted, and you'll back off for a while until the next series hits and you're on the hunt again for the figures you want.
As long as you're not breaking the bank and putting the hobby before your family or your needs you should be fine.

I think if you just started, you may want to play a bit of catchup. But after that you could slow down a bit. What everyone else said, plus this. When you first start collecting, there is a ton to collect. After a while, you amass all that is available, then you go online to fill in the holes, which takes longer. After a while, you are caught up. Then you wait for the next set to be released. Luckily for you, Mattel has some pretty poor distribution, so, eventually, your collecting will taper off, big time. In the meantime, try not to spend yourself into the poor house and you should be good to go. Welcome to the world of wrestling figure collecting.

I'm loving it. And im honestly suprised how welcoming/friendly the figure community is. You guys are great. Most of my friends could care less about this stuff at my age. My best friend is the nephew of WWE ref Tim White. He can get tickets/access to just about anything but has no interest in wrestling anymore. It kills me.

Correct spelling, lol! Ummm... For me, I like to keep ahead of retail and pre-order Elites by the case. This ensures that I'm not out constantly looking for them at retail. I usually skip basics, even though some look awesome. The basics I usually get are reserved for divas and rarer figures. I'm a sucker for sales and try to reserve money for good ones like B1G1 50% off, but I have a town with 3 K-Marts near me and 3 TRU I can go to as well. I really live in a sweet spot. That said, I hate wasting time look because most the older figures end up at second hand shops and good deals are hard to come by. Because this is a hobby, I try buy lots of used when I can to get what I need then sell the rest. It keeps the money flowing where I don't have to dip into personal fund often.
The money you spend it not the only issue, it's the time you spend with your hobby. I'm in college now, I sell on eBay, work a real job, run/workout, and I have 2 kids. It's paramount that I have this as a vise. I enjoy my hobby, but I do not let it control me. One of the things I've learned is "Time Management." If you spend too much time on this then you are saying this is more important than another aspect of your live. Everything is a balance, but if you are asking this question... I'm sure you already know the answer my friend. Ultimately, we can't tell you how to collect, just offer some advice. Good luck!
