Again, I thank all of you for your input. I'm not worried too much about my spending. So far I've only bought figures if I could afford them. I'm on the road most of the day for work so I have the luxury of checking many different store locations. My gas is paid for and usually I have the time to stop. Reading all of your responses made me realize the problem is all of the stores in this small state have been empty since I started collecting. Most of the figures I have bought you would consider shelf warmers. So as soon as they stock the damn shelves again I can grab what I want and start filling in the holes. Eventually I know I will venture online and purchase allot of the older or harder to find figures. For the time being I would like to find what's easily available in stores before I start paying markup and shipping.

Make sure bills come first. You cant put your collection on the walls or shelves if there arent any.

Its easy to get sucked in, but its equally as easy to use common sense. I've had my big spending sprees and, conversely, times where I kept a pretty tight grip on my wallet. As time goes on, and your collection gets bigger, you'll find it easier to be picky. Simply because there wont as much you'll need. I mean there will probably be stuff you want, but you'll figure out what things you feel like you HAVE to have more than others. Just sit back and enjoy the hobby. I think you have the right formula now, just start off getting the stuff that's easily attainable at retail. It will definitely form a great platform to build your collection on. And,as I said, enjoy the fun that goes with it.

1. Bills first. 2. Find out when stores restock. It will cut down your amount of trips significantly. 3. If you gotta have them all, Pre-Order by the case. You will pay a little more than retail, but you save all that in gas and stress. Sell the ones you don't want on eBay (or trade here for the ones you missed!)

My method is to ask my wife if it's okay if I buy something, then pout when she says no. This, exactly. LOL! Maaaan, you guys are doing it all wrooong... It's easier to ask for forgiveness than it is to ask for permission.

Some guys just need to go into their wives purses and reclaim a little something! If wifey really loves 'em like she says she does... she'll get over it!

I spend around a $1000 a year I guess. But I buy almost all my figures from Ringside, and therefore I pay a mark up, but it's worth it to me. I hate driving around wasting my evenings and weekends hunting for figures. When a figure I want goes up for preorder I get it even if it's $30 before shipping, because I want to be sure I have it, and my time is worth more to me than my extra cash.
Also, I'm not a "completist." For example, when Elite 28 was posted just last week, I ordered Demolition Crush because that's the Demolition I remember best and Bray Wyatt because he looks like a unique figure. And that's it.
I only need iconic attires. I got one John Cena in jean shorts and another in camo shorts because he looks cool, but those are probably the only Cenas I'll ever get. It can get really expensive if you feel like you must get EVERY version of a certain character. Just decide now what kind of collection you want and stick to it unless you have a lot of disposable income.

With me I check the stores for more of the exclusive figures the store carrys, Like the TRU BAF packs, but i don't get all of them i get the one i want for my collection, Other then that i pre-order the new figures, then kick myself when they finally are in the store at a better price. Or if its a figure that i thought was a little too much price wize online, i get them at the store. But usually i just walk in look and see if they have anything new, if they do i wait till i have the money and hope they still have one. But i keep my collection current with current looks and attire, so what i do is i take the out-dated figure and sell them at this toy and collectable store near me (its called Big Lou's in Culver City, CA) But it is a monkey thats hard to get off your back, i have over 200 figures in my collection, but it's stuff i collected over the years. and a 75% i bought with my money, the rest were gifts. and i did the math once and i spent over $3,500 dollars on figures over the past 8 years. and there were times where I didn't eat because i spent that money on figures So when i see a figure i really want, but don't have the funds to get it, i say to myself what is more important, getting a figure or buying gas and food, I choose gas and food, because you need to eat and need gas to travel for work. So next time your at a store but you don't want to buy but you find a figure you really want, just think to yourself what is more important. Buying figures or buying and/or your family food.

I to just got back into the game after taking about 2-3 years off. In the past two weeks I have probably spent around $300-$500 ordering from EBay, Amazon and RSC just trying to catch up on the figures I want. Like many have said the thrill of the hunt has really taken a hold of me. Once I get "caught up" it will probably be easier to find a 'healthy' limit as to what I should be spending on a regular basis. The only thing that has helped me not spend more is now with the Mattel figs I'm only buying guys I liked as a kid growing up or who I currently enjoying watching compared to trying to buy every guy on the roster like I did when collecting Jakks.

Whatever you can afford. Some of your figures might spike in value so consider it a investment.

You should hold yourself to a limit, say n number of figure per week. You don't want this to get out of control because figures are really expensive and not as important as a lot of other things. Something I do, is you can use your change to buy figures with. That's another option.

Depends on the person, I tend to have 1 big spending spree every couple months, that works for me.
