So for the past few weeks I've been buying Ruthless Aggression, TTL and R3 figures to do headswaps with. Some work, some don't.
I can't help but notice one thing...Jakks put WAY more effort into their headsculpts. They even put the whites in the eyes. I really think it all comes down to paint apps and Mattel isn't even ccoming close with the amount of detail and paint they put in their faces.
Just look at the JBL Elite...then go on Google and search for 'Unleashed Havoc JBL'. It's a $3 Jakks figure with a headsculp MILES above Mattel's $20 joke.
What about HHH? Jakk's 2003 HHH scans are way better than a majority of his current Mattel ones.
I don't mean to throw Mattel under the bus but between there TERRIBLE paint apps and lackluster headscans, $20 per figure is becoming too much.

I think Jakks is junk compared to Mattel. Sure Mattel misses from time to time, but some of the figures really do look like minatures of the actual wrestler. RVD, Matt Hardy, Kofi, among others that come to mind look great. Jakks made figures way to often that didn't even resemble the wrestler one bit.

I will agree with some of that. For one i agree that Jakks did put a little bit more effort into some of the Head scans and also took more risks with them. They did do a good amount of screaming head scans which is something Mattel isnt really about or rarely does. But Jakks did rush some of the worst looking scans out too so its hard to say. i think overall Mattel catches more of a likeness on most guys than Jakks ever did.

Jakks had some really good work and Jakks had some really bad work. Same can be said for Mattel. However, it seemed the bad work outnumbered the good work by Jakks more times than not. Can't say that yet about Mattel.

I find these comments funny, because Jakks and Mattel used the same company (Gentle Giant Studios) and sometimes even the same sculpters for their figures. Like anything else some look better than others for both companies.

IMO, Mattel needs to work on their scans . To me jakks is still the best at catching the likeness of most superstars. (Scans ) I'll eventually make a small comparison chart.
Also want to add, Mattels paint options needs the most work though. Mustard hair color, jet black facial hair just doesn't look right.

MDT have mentioned that they have limit on the paint app for each series. So they skip the app on the lips and the white in the eyes ect for more detail on the attire.

Mattel needs to understand that better face apps bring a figure to LIFE. I'd rather less detailed attires for better painted faces that actually look like the wrestler. I mean what's their excuse with the HORRID JBL face scan / paint? It's like they didn't try.

With Jakks, you were basically buying a great head on a just-enough-to-be-passable body. Mattel's head scans aren't quite detailed, but Kane and Rey are different heights.

I do miss the painted lips, but I'd much rather have both sides of a figures' tights painted... Jakks and Mattel both have good and bad scans but I prefer the Mattel ones being a little more stylized to match the bodies. Jakks made no sense to have detailed scans and millions of strands of sculpted hair only to be placed on a body that looked like it was sculpted by a ten year old who doeant know what real muscles look like. If you're not familiar with the term "uncanny valley" the very simple explanation is that it occurs when something is too stylized to be realistic and too realistic to be stylized. Jakks scans are beginning to fall in that category. Also, there were plenty of Jakks figures where if the tights didn't have the person's name on them I wouldn't have known who they were.

Thing is, with Jakks all you did was pay for the face. The torso & scale were so out of whack that Evan Bourne was taller than Kane. Jakks may have added white speck to the eyes but they also left out 60% of the attire detail. And I'm sorry but I can live without the white eye dot if it means full detail on the rest of the figure.

But Jakks also didn't have the $20 paypoint that Mattel has on their Elites. I just feel like between sloppy paint apps and little to none on the face, we're paying for crap.

There are some Mattel haven't done well on like Sheamus's but yet Jakks made some awful ones but yet some I thought was excilent, its not Jakks or Mattel overall it's just one figure

Agreed, I'd much rather be missing the eye highlights and lips being painted in order to have wrestlers who are in scale with one another (no Paul Bearer the size of Taker and Kane) and have proportionate body sizes. Thankfully though, if we don't like a Mattel head, a Jakks version is just a swap away.

What figures don't have whites in their eyes? I've never noticed it on any of the hundred or so figures I own.
It's easy to make detailed faces when the heads are 3x too big for an already inflated body.

Jakks was alright, but the few superstars that overlap between both lines look better on the Mattel side. RVD, Cena, Mysterio, MVP, Morrison, Miz, the list goes on... And as mentioned, Mattel pays attention to the other aspects of the wrestler as in body types and scale. That makes a giant, I repeat, GIANT, difference with wrestling figures. I'll take a mistake here and there (Roman Reigns having the wrong eye color) over the rest of the figure/line being screwed up.
Jakks non attention to height scale made me stop collecting shortly before it was announced Mattel got the license. I was about to pull the trigger on a real scale ring when I realized Mysterio and Taker are THE SAME HEIGHT. I just stopped right there. I just started back with collecting and I was really, really impressed that Cena, Sin Cara, and Wade Barrett are all scaled appropriately.
Mattel just does an overall better job, IMO. Some scans I don't like, true, but Jakks had some really bad ones -- esp. in the Deluxe Aggression line. DA RVD still gives me nightmares.

My original message said nothing about scale. It's obvious that Mattel is leeps and bounds better as far as actually looking like a human body, etc.
This was purely about headsculps and I'm sick of paying $20 for an elite that doesn't look like the wrestler.
The fact that Mattel hasn't put out one Daniel Bryan that looks anything like him, it's mind blowing. Same with Ziggler, HHH, Punk, Rhodes, JBL, etc...

That's what I'm thinking, the whole scale deal is irrelevant, we get it jakks sucks when the subject is about scales, but their scans are incredible imo. Mattel has some great scans too but they can do so much better.
