Im currently watching the Raw before Wrestlemania 17 on the network and when Vince goes over WCW stars and if the crowd is interested in seeing them, Bagwell got a huge pop, perhaps even bigger than when McMahon mentioned Hogan's name. I didn't really watch WCW at the time, but was Bagwell really that over with the crowd? Going back through the PPV's I never saw the attraction in the pop that he got on Raw. Maybe someone could help me out with that?

I think that all of us fans thought that if Buff Bagwell went to WWE, that he would be a star since WCW failed to push him in that direction.
I never understood why Buff never had a WCW TV Title reign at least.

I loved him in WCW. He had a great look, a douchey frat boy demeanor and I loved the Blockbuster. I liked his entrance music a lot too. No complaints about Buff in WCW but he was horrendous in his Raw appearance.
I'm not sure on the pop but Buff was definitely over in WCW, albeit mostly as a heel, and I think there was definitely some novelty with mid level talent making the jump to WWF at that time and getting a shot to rise to the top. As we saw with Jericho, Eddie, Benoit, etc and Buff kind of fit that role. He could have been a great tag team guy in WWE imo had he not had such a quick exit. He was priceless with Scott Steiner and for the majority of his NWO stuff.

Buff had his best matches when he was Marcus Alexander.

I still can't believe they were so quick to let Buff go, regardless of him getting his mother to call in sick for him.

I believe it was Lance Storm that said his attitude stank to high hell too.....he was being a real prick ALL the time. pity he didn't stick around......he could have been another name for Vince to feed the "ego grinder" with.

I can't imagine it being that bad. He and Booker were the only 2 major WCW stars that agreed to an immediate buy out so he must have been keen to work for the WWE. I've always dug Buff. Solid worker, great look, oozing Charisma. I would have loved to have seen what they did with him in the following years.

Sorry AF,I've no reason to discredit Storm here I know Bagwell has his fans but heaps of folks say he was never gonna get anywhere with his attitude. Hell even TNA wouldn't give him a regular gig......also man DDP was a bigger name than Buff. He agreed to the immediate buy out too.

Yeah I always forget about DDP agreeing to a buy out so quickly, because he didn't debut immediately. Ugh, what could have been in that angle. I guess it's just one of those things where the stars didn't align for it to all pan out as it should have.

Could have worked with what he had AF......so many guys weren't used or petty gripes stopped them from being used etc etc etc. Basically Vince & Stephanie's egos were so bloated they couldn't even let a rival faction(which they owned) look good in a storyline scenario that they totally controlled.......it boggles the mind. The Invaders should have been dominant until Survivor Series when Vince & co got a win back.....thereby saving their skins and the tide slowly turns. The Angle finishes @ WM18 "The most important WM of ALL time". When Vince celebrates his victory the next night on Raw he is attacked by Bisch and the nWo. Hogan, Hall, Nash, Giant & Waltman. The $$ they flushed is surreal.......The chances they missed. Invasion 2001 was the night Jericho should have "made it"......he should have turned on Team WWF and became the top guy in The Alliance(ugh). Austin turning so we could have Austin vs Rock part 20 was just rubbish. Plus if he had used the guys properly who knows what kinda stars he would've built?

Buff Bagwell would've been a great fit in Attitude Era WWF. People had been saying this for years leading up to 2001.
This is a big reason why he was chosen to be in the first WWF sanctioned WCW match on Raw against Booker T which SUCKED.
We all know the story from there.

There are a million and one ways they could have booked it to make it better than what they had. They had at least a handfull of top WCW guys that could have carried a realistic looking threat. I'm always most flabbergasted that DDP was used as a punching bag, when he should have been leading WCW. DDP vs. The Rock would have been such a dream match.

the misuse of ddp is indeed staggering, to the degree that it's a bit heart breaking how big of a boat they missed with him. i'd like to slap whoever thought up that ridiculous stalker angle.
bagwell though? i never saw anything in him, thought he was really annoying, and took away from the overall product. i remember bischoff saying he wouldn't vouch for him to return to wwe because of his pill habit. and what was with the hats? like really, what was the point? whole thing was dumb and he's lucky he got spoiled with his nwo run.

It's important to remember that Buff Bagwell had also never been in WWF before at that point (same goes for DDP).
Because of this, it was a VERY big deal to see them in a WWF ring.
More so than guys like Hogan, Nash, Hall, etc. who had already been in WWF. This is also why it was such a big deal when Goldberg and Rey Mysterio came in later.

Buff had his best matches when he was Marcus Alexander. THIS! I always thought he was a bell end once he went the "Buff" angle. NEVER liked him. Cat in the Hat's hat was stupid, even if it was what was big in the late 90's.

The crowd lost interest in him when he was jobbed out every week for months against Undertaker. He recovered somewhat with his motivational gimmick. We never saw what could have been with Buff because he was gone so fast.
