Dan Severn...now that was one bad ass mofo. When that music hit and he walked to the ring with that cold stare. Awesome. I wish he had been better in the ring because he had "the look". Plus, he killed D'Lo Brown that one time on Raw. Now that you've mentioned it, imagine if he stayed in the WWF for about two more years. I could imagine a match with Dan Severn and Kurt Angle. Better yet, Severn vs. Chris Benoit.

I always felt Shamrock left at totally the wrong time......they needed strong & proven faces to oppose the Regime and Angle, Benoit & Tazz were just showing up.
Man he could've had great bouts with them.

Burnout with the schedule and his direction(Ryan Shamrock storyline). Prichard & others told him he really should stay because things were getting back on track and they were just adjusting to Russo leaving & the addition of SD! but he still left. They were short of credible top guys in late 99/00 and Shamrock could have been a thorne in the side of the Regime with Rock & Foley. Especially since The Radicalz got added to the regime......Shamrock vs benoit, Guerrero or Saturn would have been great. Ditto for stuff with Angle or even Taz.

On the whole "they shoulda stayed" roof, why wasn't there a Severn/Shamrock PPV match? All we got was a blow-off on Raw and Shamrock in Owen's corner from Summerslam '98.

I thought Doc was pretty over heading into WWF? I have no recollection of anything big with him via WWF prior to BFA. No matches, no vignettes. I watched all the shows but Shotgun and never saw him on TV until BFA. What I remember is all of a sudden he appeared as a contestant in the tournament. I remember him from NWA/WCW and UWF back in the 80s and early 90s. He had a WWF trading card that came out in late 1998 (everyone seemed to be in this set-even Papi Chulo who wasn't a TV main stay). The card pictured him in his red/white singlet that Jakks half-assed and I never saw him in this outfit, ever, on WWF TV. His Jakks was on shelves, in bulk, for months. I may be one of the few to have bought one but I'm sure the reason for it not selling well is because no one knew who he was. He was in BFA for a few matches and that's it. For a guy that was JR's boy, JR must've had no say in the matter because I don't remember anything but the BFA matches. Could be wrong.

But I seem to remember there being some buzz over him heading to WWF, because of his tenure in WCW/NWA. So he hadn't done that much before the BFA, then Bart knocks him out and he's gone. I pretty much just remember him standing next to JR when JR had his own commentary table before the BFA, as like I said, the BFA was created when he arrived to get him over. Yup. (Insert Ken Shamrock or Dan Severn here) Vs. Chris Jericho Vs. Kurt Angle Vs. Chris Benoit Pretty much all I remember of Severn was his sweaty shirt.

The second greatest moustache in the history of our sport... Bart Gunn had a pretty good moustache. There should be a moustache appreciation thread.

For me it was a highlight of watching RAW every week at that time. I recall after mania Butterbean saying something like "I don't know if it was the best punch I ever landed, but it was probably the loudest." I'm not sure anyone in the tourney would have beaten/done much better with Esch. (haha, though you couldn't do much worse than Bart). He was a much better professional fighter than novice fans game him credit for, do to his shape and all that. Who, if anyone, in the tourney do you guys think would've beaten or made a better fight for the Bean?

Had Severn or Shamrock faced him, they probably would have been smart enough to grapple him instead of trying to fight or KO him. Which i believe Bart thought he could do even if it were an mma style shoot. But if either Severn,Shamrock were in, or Williams would have won, i highly doubt Butterbean would have been at Mania 15 anyway. But yeah i dont think any of the other BFA competitors would have fared much better with Esch if they would have faced him.

I had seen Butterbean fight a few times prior to WM, and I knew that was going to be a fiasco for WWE. Butterbean was difficult to hurt and his punching power was legendary. He had been putting guys on the canvas for years, and those were other trained boxers. When he hit Bart Gunn, I wondered if Bart might spend the night in the hospital. He fought Sean O' Haire a few years later in a MMA match. It's not great quality, but it doesn't need to be given the length of time.
