I thought he was pretty bad when he debuted against Angle. I even said to my brother "this guy's never going to get anywhere" lol.
However, the guy improved leaps and bounds, and is now consistently the best performer the WWE has to offer. He's an all time great.

I've said this before: After year of watching Hogan kicking out of every finisher, not selling any finisher, and then winning matches with five moves. I don't bat an eye at Cena. He's not nearly as bad as people make him out to be. The kids who hate Cena never saw Hogan (or Austin) wrestle. Or they've forgotten them, and assume that babyface comebacks and babyfaces being booked stronger than heels is a new thing.

Ugh...
For the hundredth time, the Cena hate has little-to-nothing to do with his wrestling ability.
It's the fact that he's been doing the EXACT SAME SH*T for ten years. TEN!
Hogan's run wasn't 10 years without a character change. Either was Austin's, Rock's, Bret Hart's, Shawn Michaels', Diesel, Doink the Clown, Eugene or Jonathan Coachman's.
Anybody who was worth a sh*t had a character change at some point during their career. Cena hasn't for over a decade.
Ricky Steamboat would be the only remote exception here but he wasn't a main event headlining worker for the period of time Cena has been.
It's beyond stale and ridiculous.

Triple H?? same gimmick "The Game, The Cerebral Assain, etc." since what, 1999?

I wouldn't so much call them flaws as a product of bad booking and dependence.
I usually zone out of Cena promos, unless he's really "on" with the right opponent. When he is, he can do great stuff on the mic. I always look forward to his big matches, though, because the guy can go.
Most of the time I can turn the other way to the ridiculous things they do for him, occasionally it just genuinely perplexes and bothers me. Most recently, the Bray Wyatt feud. Most of it comes down to the fact that he's been doing the same tired schtick for ten years. He hasn't even added a wrinkle. That's a long time to stay committed to any character who hasn't shown a bit of a growth.

Well to be fair... it really was. Hulk-a-Mania was born in the AWA around 82. Joined WWE in 83. Kept the red n' yellow when he joined wCw in 94. All the way till the debut of the nWo in 96. So that's at least a 14 year run without much change.

Not to mention, the fans started booing Hogan too and they saw him half as much. You eat the same sh*t sandwich for lunch for a decade and eventually you're going to want bologna, tuna, ham, ing anything other than sh*t sandwich.

I hated Hogan long before hating on Hogan was a thing. You do have a good point with exposure though. I do think Cena can be stale at times. I was just pointing out Hogan hadn't change in a very long time either.

It doesn't matter how long you consider Hogan's "run" to be.
That's not the big point. It could've been 5 years, 6 years, whatever. The point is that there was a time where the crowd were sick of the same old sh*t and started turning on Hogan. They have been doing this to Cena for years.
The difference? Hogan changed. Cena hasn't.
If you still get excited for predictability then that's fine for you. I became a wrestling fan because I like unpredictibility in my product.
When Cena's music hits, I know exactly what I'm going to get each and every time.
Music hits, holds up towel to sell me, shows wristbands to sell me, shows off new color t-shirt to sell me, runs to ring, slides under bottom rope, shows hat to sell me, cuts promo where he says (fill in the blank city) is a hot crowd tonight, laughs, jokes, smiles, jokes, laughs, smiles, smirks, jokes, laughs, smirks, I'm gonna kick your ass, these people run the show and not you *points to crowd*, it's all about these people here in (fill in the blank city), laughs, smirks, etc.
And that's all off the top of my head.

Given I stopped watching wrestling for several years, I found that Cena really started to bore me when he killed the Nexus angle and refused to "serve" Barrett despite being obligated to do so. And I've noticed since then that he often ends up derailing any up and coming talent he comes into contact with with the notable exceptions of Bryan and Punk. The Wyatt angle earlier this year was especially egregious and ultimately pointless. Same ol' Cena shtick no matter how much they try to make us believe it'll be a different story.

I don't understand the argument that dull babyface no-sell comebacks aren't crapsimply because it's been the done thing forever.

Back in 2011 when the Rock Returned and even then I was a Huge Miz Fan(Still am) and When Rocky made that promo i realized that, that multi-colored wearing Steroid sharter(yeas he has sharted his pants in the ring) was so overrated.

Cena was likeable up until SummerSlam 2005 when he went up against Jericho, after that that is when the hatred for Cena started to grow so immensely

I hated Cena back in 04 but he slowly started to impress me in 07. His in ring can be good and fun to watch at times but his character is as stale as f*ck imo. His mic work can also be good at times but it's usually the same old crap.

There is so much I want to say.....specifically about the absolute nonsense of comparing Cena to Hogan & particularly Austin but I wont. It annoys me too much.

The first time I was exposed to his annoying sense of humor. The hokey and cheesy poopy jokes really get under my skin sometimes. Anytime a cringeworthy sentence spews from his mouth, I shed a single tear.

They have been doing this to Cena for years. The difference? Hogan changed. Cena hasn't. They've been doing it to Cena for how many years? Make up your mind. Cena has only been on top in the WWE for ten years. If people hating him was about "TEN YEARS STRONG" then it would have just started. It started in his first year as champion. Pretending it's because of his longevity is nonsense. The difference between Hogan and Cena is that not as many people were desperately into the negative, "I hate WWE now but still watch it for years anyway" culture during Hogan's (or Austin's) run.

I hated his guts after watching three of his matches and seeing 1 of his promos for the 1st time. I started watching again in 2010 after 9 years away.
I went to see a live show and when he pulled out the comeback with the pump handle slam and 5 knuckle shuffle. Half the crowd (including me) sighed (it was actually quite funny to see). One fan shouted "this same crapagain". I suppose doing so many matches you have to have matches that seem simalar but they haven't changed much yeah upon year.
The thing that gets me most is his WWE personality...... It's so fake, manufactured, dis-honest rubbish. If he has a real personality he doesn't show a ounce of it on TV.
Some may say the same of Hogan but he had the guts to show some of his real colours to the fans.....(Black and White)

I'm only 18, so keep my age in mind, I stopped watching Raw forever, I only watched wrestling for Jeff Hardy in 2009 before he left. Then when he left, I was like, "Well, John Cena and Batista and Orton are gonna be champion 25/8" and I didn't find them entertaining (Not a you can't wrestle standpoint, just, I'm sick of them being the ONLY champions.)
Then I started watching around the time of NXT season 1, and I started really seeing how bad Cena was. I'd watch Daniel Bryan have a 5 star match on SiFi at like 10 at night or whatever, then I'd turn on Raw and see John Cena have a god awful boring match with someone crappy like R-Truth or something and I was like, "What the hell?! Why is he the top guy?!"
