Surprised they didn't go into this with more detail in the newest Macho Man documentary. Maybe Vince wants him in the Hall of Fame so badly he doesn't want to say anything that will bring up bad feelings and cause Lanny Poffo (The Poffo Family) to turn down the Hall of Fame offer? Perhaps....Vince is now in such dire need to ensure WM is special that this may indeed be the case.....

Jericho's latest podcast is with Lanny Poffo talking about Randy, about 40 minutes in, pretty good so far. Post the high points of it man will ya? Sure, not that much new info, some fun stuff though. He walks us through how he decided to let Macho go in the HOF, since he's now the older brother, he realized Randy made a poor decision about the whole family going in, and decided to override it because Randy deserved it, the fans want it so much, and it's not like he could win an argument with Vince McMahon about anything. Took him 3 days to convince his mother. lol Emphasized that Randy's stance on the whole family going in was a reaction to hearing the whole Von Erich family was going in and some of them like Chris weren't even wrestlers. Thinks the ones that killed themselves were bums to do it with their mother still alive. Emphasis on how insulted he and his mother were about no one calling on behalf of WWE when Angelo and Randy died, his mother wanted them to make that right, talks about them sending a lot of flowers with a producer when he sat down to do interviews with them recently. Said my mother is old, Jewish, pissed off and wanted an explanation. lol Also really emphasizes that 1987 legends battle royale he couldn't get Angelo in as a pivotal moment in Randy's relationship with WWF. Lanny said Randy didn't blame Vince for that, but Strongbow and Patterson. Strongbow booked himself in the match though and got his arm broken by I think Lou Thesz trying to pull him out from outside the ring, came back to the locker room complaining about it. (Strongbow's gut got in the way of pulling him over and his arm broke) Randy told him it wasn't Lou Thesz who broke your arm, it was you being a fat piece of s*** and a disgrace to the business. So the point is Randy stopped being polite and started saying whatever he wanted from then on. Lanny openly talks about Randy being way too resentful about life in general and not letting things go, the Von Erich and battle royale things being examples. Says he thinks Hulk Hogan is the perfect guy to induct Savage, and despite everything I have to agree, says he has a verb and a pronoun for anyone that disagrees, and will be receiving on behalf of Randy. Talks about Leaping Lanny and The Genius, reads us some poems of course. Says he has no bitterness towards Hogan, loves the man and is still grateful for the time he got to main event with him along with Mr Perfect. He's self deprecating the whole time, seems very aware he didn't have a HOF career and everything he got was from being Randy's brother. Tells us his father paid for Gorgeous George's funeral when George was a penniless alcoholic, little bit more insight into Savage's fascination with Gorgeous George. Oh, funny story of Randy arguing with Angelo about air conditioning in the car in I think the ICW days. Randy wants it because sweating gives him a rash, Angelo says they didn't used to need it when he was young and they managed. Randy asks, "Did you have windshields?" Angelo says yes, Randy responds, "What's the matter, no balls?" Don't think I heard any mention of Elizabeth going in with him.

One thing Lanny said that captured Savage's attention to detail was that Randy kept track of which cities had seen which outfits to make sure he cycled through them so each city got their money's worth.

It was the Slim Jim deal. Savage left as a surprise, forcing Lawler into the commentary spot. But Vince would have forgiven that. At the time, WWE was in hard times, but they kept the Slim Jim deal. However, after a short period, the Slim Jim people wanted Savage not the terrible people WWE were giving them. So they cut ties with WWF when it was at a financial low, costing them tons of sponsorship money, all of which went to WCW with Savage. That's why Vince hated Savagfe, because losing that deal hurt WWE when they needed that money most.
It was petty on Vince's part, as Savage couldn't really be blamed for it. Slim Jim stayed with WWF for a bit, but left because they liked Savage as their spokesman.
And of course, Vince wants everyone to apologize to him and such, and Randy never did that because he was the Macho Man and didn't need Vince or his HOF.
End of story.

It was definitely the Slim Jim deal, we've talked about this several times before. Actually a few weeks back they talked briefly about it on Jericho's podcast with Bischoff and Pritchard. Pritchard started getting upset when they brought up Slim Jim so they quickly moved past that (there was a short argument where Bischoff says SJ was a Macho Man contract and Pritchard yells that it was a WWF contract). That Slim Jim contract was a huge deal, WWF was having to cut so many costs and nearly went under. That wound cut deep.

^That would address the situation as if Vince being resentful about Slim Jim was the only obstacle when we know he's willing to bury the hatchet with anyone to do business. Randy Savage was extremely resentful and Lanny says so quite often in the interview with Jericho. it's not all on Vince it would seem to me. It's hard to blame anyone for their character really, but if we do, a lot of this is on Randy I think, he already had a problem with the company in 1987, let alone the 2000s! Jericho and Lanny talk about that being the flipside of a guy being such a detail freak in so many regards, not being able to let go of a lot, being obsessive about things was the name of the game with the Macho Man. Besides, nothing seems to ever be just one factor in life, nothings happening in a vacuum etc, always a combo of things.

Concerning Hogan, he still claims to have made amends with Savage shortly before his death, yet was still ripping on him in interviews after the supposed amends took place.
I don't buy that the incident at the hospital went down the way Hogan says it did. If it did, you wouldn't call that person a crazy lunatic and bury them a few days later on a televised interview.

I don't buy that the incident at the hospital went down the way Hogan says it did. If it did, you wouldn't call that person a crazy lunatic and bury them a few days later on a televised interview. I thought that was a good point Warrior made in his karma video, he said he thought Hogan was probably hiding at the doctor's and Randy went in and said hi like a man. I don't know what happened there, everyone knows Hogan lies quite a bit, I don't know when that Schiavello interview was filmed vs when Hogan is claiming that happened, he certainly wasn't speaking all too fondly about Savage in it. Randy was definitely on record as not being too fond of Hogan and I never heard otherwise from him, but we did hear he had found happiness with his wife and changed quite a bit so I guess it's possible. But in any case Hogan has always said Andre was his biggest match but that Savage was his best feud and moneymaker and since the Mega Powers program was such a high point in WWF history, it makes Hogan qualified, so we'll get to see if Hulk can muster something decent at the HOF or not. I'm not sure how long Hogan will speak, maybe we'll get an hour of surreal poem telling with Lanny sweating and apologizing for all the tangents. If we're extra lucky we'll get him dressed in cap and gown throwing out frisbees, would the crowd even remember this man?
