What are some cases that a favorite of yours changed for the worse? So much so that you almost stopped being a fan? I have a few...
Randy Savage: Most here know I loved Randy Savage. But I hated Macho King. I just wasn't enjoying the Savage/Sherri pairing at all. IMO those were some dark days in his career. Took some time for me to recover.
Sting: I idolized Sting. The Surfer blonde hair & the screaming promos got me hooked. Then came Crow Sting. As bad as that was, Wolfpac Sting was ever worse. Lost my love for Sting and never really gained it back.
Brutus Beefcake: Anything Brutus did in wCw. All of it was awful and I stop caring for him completely. He went from one of my favorites in WWE, to never feeling the same about him again. They ruined him IMO.

Not so much a gimmick but...
WCW raped Bret Hart and left him in a dirty dumpster with his dress torn and only one high heel shoe on.

Definitely Brutus Beefcake when he went to WCW. I was a diehard fan of the Beefer for his WWE run in the 80s and early 90s. I can't lie or deny it, as much as he sucked as a wrestler, I thought he was the coolest guy.
Barry Windham as The Stalker. That one made me stop being a BARRY fan. I was such a huge fan of his, especially his WCW run in late 92 when he turned heel and into summer of 93. But The Stalker killed that for me.
RVD joining the WWE in 2001. I know he had to do it, but I never enjoyed him the same again as I did during his ECW run - especially from summer of 1998 - 2001 when ECW closed. But I never became an RVD guy again once he entered the WWE.

The Undertaker's ABA gimmick. I hated it back in 2000 because after watching him as the deadman for all them years it just didn't feel right seeing him ply a living human with a gimmick that ripped off the DOA. I was so glad the ABA only lasted 3 years and then the TRUE Undertake came back.
The One Billy Gunn. I'm a huge Billy Gunn fan and removing his assman gimmick ruined him. He went from having a character that was over to a generic wrestler with no features.
Comedy Mankind. Mankind is my favourite face of Foley and I loved his tortured soul character from 96/98 but then he gets turned into a comedy character. He was basically Mick Foley in a mask and I admit he benefited more with the comedy character and had title runs along with the crowd being behind him but at the same time I preferred his tortured soul character better.

That was the ultimate destruction of him IMO. They took someone great like DDP and turned him into a mid card comedy character. He should've keep his WCW music and had an upper card role like Booker T.
The short hair didn't help him either.

I liked ABA Undertaker in 2000 and part of 2001. Then after Invasion he became really tedious to watch, cut his long hair and I lost a lot of love for him. It wasn't until 2006 I became a fan of his again. Anyway, my picks: The 'hugging' Stone Cold - if that counts. So stupid. Hurricane Helms to Gregory Helms. Booker T to 'Booker' then GI Bro. Amazing booking whoever thought of that... Might have to think of more later, my mind's blank!

Golga. ing Golga. They had a guy who feuded with Hogan in the hottest feud of the year at one time, and they put him in a mask, a south park t shirt and called him ing Golga, man. Billy (and Chuck). Billy and ing Chuck.

Cody Rhodes' grotesque gimmick. I wasn't too keen on Dashing, but hated Grotesque. Fortunately he hasn't been given any of that crap since.

Dvon Dudley changing to brother dvon. Godfather changes to goodfather.
Wwe's version of Goldberg, he was just not the same.
Y2j jericho changing into suit wearing Jericho and then boring( talks slow like a robot jericho) He should have always stayed as fun y2j jericho.
