www.bbc.com/news/entertainment-arts-32733873That's a good chunk of supporting characters right there including much more prominent ones such as Flanders, Skinner, and Mr. Burns. I've supported the show for a long, long time now, but I think this might be a sign that the show should finally come to a close. I don't know how they'll get by without one of the original voice actors for all of those characters.

I think they need to end it now. It's sad but it's just never going to be what it was.

That's a huge shake up....unless they have a master impersonator voice actor, theres no real way to continue his characters....this is like a commercial aircraft losing one if it's wings....if Dan Castelenetta leaves at some point then the show truly is over....there can be no other Homer.

Eh, he'll be back. There's too much money to be made. What else is he going to do?

If they can replace him to the point that he would hear it and be shocked into thinking they had somehow found a way to use his own voice, I'm alright with it.
I can't and won't ever be able to say The Simpsons should end without feeling like I am shooting a beloved dog that is simply 'old' in the head for no reason. Some things just need to die on their own.

They said they're going to recast the roles.... we'll see, I think I'll be able to tell the difference.... but, I'll give them a chance...
I really see both sides of it.... he probably wants more than he's worth.... and they probably don't want to pay him whatever royalties he thinks he's entitled to..... so I guess it's best if they just part ways.

He doesn't want to leave, it sounds like the new contract he was offered prohibited him from being involved with other work.

Only characters that he does that were featured as part of a main plot this last season were Flanders and Mr.Burns. Most of his characters haven't been used regularly. While it sucks that they'll be recast, I'm sure either Castellaneta or Billy west could do a good job.

I think they need to end it now. It's sad but it's just never going to be what it was. It's really bittersweet. On one hand the Simpsons has been such an iconic show, but on the other hand we have to wonder..... how far will the show sink into failure? I'll admit it's been years since I last watched new episodes. But the episodes I do remember are fantastic.

I own Seasons 1-12 and anything after that (apart from the movie) doesn't interest me. I just think they need to call it quits. I think perhaps they could do a send off movie, hopefully getting Shearer to take part and then everyone could move onto new projects.

I feel like I stopped watching the Simpsons 20 years ago, but it was probably only 10.

If they do recast Mr Burns and Flanders, you know there's going to be a ton of in-jokes about it, lol.

I went through a silly phase of hating modern Simpsons because it wasn't as good as it was from S1-S8. Those middle Seasons from around 9 to 16 definitely declined (still not bad though), but the quality actually significantly picked up again after that, and has been of a much higher standard than those 9-16 Seasons ever since. Give it a chance, you'll be glad you did.

I recommend starting with Season 18, I kept catching episodes from S18 on TV a few years ago and thinking "these episodes are pretty damn good". I hadn't watched any new stuff for years at that point.

I've never understood the idea that anything past season 12 is bad. I can admit there are some admittedly not-so-great episodes amongst that time frame, too, and this is easily not only my all-time favorite show but basically the only thing I watch in my old age aside from movies and wrestling. Some people just look back fondly at it because they grew up with it, as much as I hate to use the word 'nostalgia.'
I'm in no way trying to call anyone out, either. Just saying Simpsons has been such a constant, even with some junk here and there, that I don't see how anyone wouldn't be thrilled that there will always be so much of it available to us.
