Absolutely loved Bischoff as GM. This was one of those moments when you could really say, anything can happen, never say never. Have not had that sort of feeling for a very long time.

I still don't understand to why he went with WWE. He wouldn't have done it before Lucrative deal and a nice schedule man. It allowed Eric to remain a good earner and pursue other interests.

WWE in 2002 was in freefall. Vince and the queen of the brain-trust couldn't understand why their ratings/buyrates were slipping and slipping. Cue Vince hotshotting nWo, Bischoff, Steiner etc etc. I always felt that had the Invasion storyline been ran right? its conclusion should have been at WM18.....as Vince celebrates the next night on Raw the nWo come out to beat the crap outta him and Easy E sprays nWo on his back. But since the Alliance(ugh) were eviscerated by August that was never gonna happen. For real? I had no idea 2002 WWE was freefalling.

I love this sorta stuff, it doesn't happen enough, if at all these days. I wish maybe it'd been a case where he just walked past instead of stopping and standing, but then again theres a risk there that people wouldn't have recognized him. Watching all the old 97 Raws, Im seeing they did this every single break; "Oh my God, whats that, whats happening?!! Stay tuned!" comes out of JRs mouth every 15 minutes haha.
So good though; damn I wish we got real surprises today

I'd bet money that the creative team thought quite a bit about that segment, whether to introduce him there backstage or have Mr McMahon do it. Either way, I would have rather it remained a surprise and skipped the segment all together.

Buyrates and TV ratings continued in a steady decline from late 2001......hell ratings started to decline before Summerslam 2001 when the fan base seen the Invasion was gonna be a one sided slaughter. Flair, nWo, HBK, Steiner, Goldberg etc etc etc were all brought back/in to help stop the rot. But it was too little too late. The incredible botch of the Invasion and its aftermath were felt for years. Vince blew a story that could have ran for years(and kept getting refreshed)in 6 months because he and his idiot "flotation like device" of a daughter lost their marbles in a crazy ego trip.

Ratings. Vince was hoping the regular viewer of RAW would see Bischoff, be so shocked that he'd tell his friend during the commercials to tune in, etc.
