Although not as good as the original I still enjoyed it. Drax and Yondu ran away with the movie.

Just saw the GOTG 2 and all I can say is.... I'm a 39 year old grown man, and yet theses films continue to make me cry like a b*tch. They are just so well written and so well acted, you just can't help but to love these characters. I had no idea you hadn't seen it yet man, I hope I didn't spoil anything with that last comment.. If I did, I apologize.. I totally thought you had seen it before then.

Maybe I was seeing things but did anyone else notice during the credits when they showing the main cast in those circles Jeff Goldlum's Grandmaster showed up. I don't recall seeing him anywhere in the film or post credit scenes.

I absolutely LOVED Guardians 2. My god that was wonderful. It 100% lived up to the first in my opinion. It didn't surpass the first but that shouldn't surprise anyone.
The only thing that really bothered me was that I felt like the soundtrack was no where near as iconic as the first's was.
Also, going in I watched almost no trailers or anything for this at all. If I recall correctly I watched The very first trailer or teaser released and that was it. I was ready for this movie the second the first ended so I didn't need or want to see anything. That being said I was a little ticked to see that Sly Stallone was in the movie before it even began. I saw his name in the opening credits and was like aw man that s cool but it would have been a better surprise.
Still I absolutely loved that movie so much. Can't wait to see it again.
I gotta see it in IMAX this time thought. Real D3D was no where near as good as Guardians 1 was in IMAX.

If Marvel ever gets the Fantastic Four back for the MCU, I hope they cast Patrick Wilson as Mr Fantastic. Just wanted to put that out there.

Karl Urban as Dredd was just so unique in that he kept the character pure to the comics and kept the f*ckin helmet on for the entire movie. We will likely never see it again in terms of actor commitment. Agreed. I will always applaud Urban and Hugo Weaving for their commitment to their roles.

I loved GotG volume 2.. I had a midnight screening I went to on Thursday and I am not exaggerating when I say that I had a smile on my face the entire 2 hours and 17 minutes.
It wasn't as good as Volume 1, but I mean what a giant task that would have been anyway.. There were moments where I thought it was going to be better than the first.. It did alot of things better than the first.. But at the end of it all I didn't feel it was as good.. Close though.
I can't wait to see it again.. Hopefully in the next couple days.

Second viewing of Guardians 2 tonight. Bumps from a 7.5 to a 7 for me. Still a solid movie, but definitely in the bottom half of the MCU. Lots of problems this time for me. This is the first case where I really finally feel the fanboying in the reviews. It isn't a bad movie, but not even close to a great one

This is the first case where I really finally feel the fanboying in the reviews. It isn't a bad movie, but not even close to a great one I've only seen it once, and even though I'm really excited for my 2nd viewing (more so than I was for Civil War) I'm having a hard time wanting to rank it above Civil War on my MCU ranking list.. GotG Volume 2 would probably come in at #8 for me.. As of right now. But I'm seeing both sides of the spectrum in regards to your comment about reviews.. I'm seeing alot of blind praise for it, but I'm seeing more unnecessary hate for it than usual.. The biggest problem I'm seeing is ALOT of people went into this expecting a film BETTER than Guardians of the Galaxy volume 1.. And that was a giant mistake on EVERYONE that had that in mind.. GotG 1 was a legitimately special type of lightning in a bottle film.. And yet every negative comment I've seen has been comparison to the first film. James Gunn and Marvel were never going to be able to recreate that.

A lot of the hate GOTG2 is getting is A typical for the Marvel movies. Lots of reviewers dying to see it fail.....and they are choking on their own rage because they know this is Disney's 2nd billion $$ movie of the year. On it being better than the first? No it wasn't. The first one was easily better for me but I agree with Word™ here....anyone expecting this to be better than the first just doesn't pay attention. 1st movie was lightning in a bottle. But saying that GOTG2 was absolutely brilliant for me and will do better financially than the 1st movie....no doubt. On where to rank it? It doesn't crack the top 5 MCU entries for me. But plenty of MCU entries I adore don't do that either.....

I loved Vol 2. I go to a movie to enjoy myself, and this movie had me fully invested throughout the whole thing.

The only thing that really bothered me was that I felt like the soundtrack was no where near as iconic as the first's was. I agree for the most part, but the use of Fleetwood Mac (the trailer theme) twice and Cat Stevens (finale song) in the movie was on point. God, that ending was beautiful. I very much preferred the third act of Vol. 2 over the first one's. At certain points, Ego was disturbing. "Trash panda" and Yondu and Rocket trying to get Groot to fetch the fin still make me giggle thinking about it. Also: "YOU KILLED MY MOTHER AND CRUSHED MY WALKMAN!"

My favorite parts were...
Groot's opening dance.
Yondu & Rocket's escape from the Ravagers. I love how they casually walked out while Yondu kept whistling.
How the very second Ego said he gave Peter's mom the tumor, Peter opened fire. He didn't need an explanation. It wouldn't have matter.
And.... "I'm Mary Poppins, Y'all!"

While the first movie had the better soundtrack, Vol. 2 had by far the better antagonist. Ronin always came off as a henchman for Thanos, even after going against him. He never seemed like a legit threat.
The antagonist in Vol. 2 came off as a far more dangerous villain. It was also nice that he wasn't constantly referred to as "a pawn of Thanos".

Thought Guardians was enjoyable. Had some stuff I didn't like, like quite a bit of forced comedy and Ego was a better idea in theory than in execution imo. Still a fun film. The soundtrack and film alike were just inferior to the first in pretty much every way. I thought Ronin was a merciless killing machine that would eat your children in order to accomplish his goals. Ego was like The Dude, but turned out to be a merciless child killer? I love Kurt Russell, but I wasn't a huge fan of the character. I do like how they explained the living planet in physical form. However, I don't think his motivation was entirely clear. It was worth it to get the rampage reaction from Peter though when he found out Ego killed his mother. You don't get to say people shouldn't have expected it to be better than the first. T2 was better than Terminator, Aliens better than Alien, Empire better than ANH, Road Warrior better than Mad Max, Superman II better than Superman, Spider-man 2 is better than Spider-man (Raimi), Winter Soldier over First Avenger, Dark Knight over Begins, Hellboy 2 over Hellboy, and I also think Batman Returns is better than Batman 89. So let's not operate under the false pretense that it's the audience's fault for having high expectations for this movie. It wasn't as good as the first. It's really that simple. A good, enjoyable film, but not something that I think will end up being timeless like the original. I spent $45 at the movies yesterday. So while I have no problem with just being entertained, I much prefer being excited, thrilled, moved, by a film when I leave the theater. That wasn't Guardians 2. I nearly forgot I had seen it by the time I went to bed yesterday. We've already established that the MCU can be better than GV2. I just think this idea that Guardians 2 couldn't have been better than the first is absolutely silly. I thought the Force Awakens was a great movie, but I fully expect the Last Jedi to be better. But if it's not, I'm going to blame myself? No, I'm not. Just like I don't blame myself for not being as entertained by GV2 as I was GV1. Maybe I was seeing things but did anyone else notice during the credits when they showing the main cast in those circles Jeff Goldlum's Grandmaster showed up. I don't recall seeing him anywhere in the film or post credit scenes. Thought I saw this as well. Right hand side. Can't remember between which end credit scene it was but that's what I thought I saw as well.

The only parts I didn't care for were...
The David Hasselhoff cameo. I understood why Ego did it, but wasn't a fan of it. How would Ego know what The Hoff looks like? How would he know Peter pretended that was his dad?
And Star-Lord turning into PAC-Man. Again, I get it, but it was a bit much for me.
