. You don't get to say people shouldn't have expected it to be better than the first. T2 was better than Terminator, Aliens better than Alien, Empire better than ANH, Road Warrior better than Mad Max, Superman II better than Superman, Spider-man 2 is better than Spider-man (Raimi), Winter Soldier over First Avenger, Dark Knight over Begins, Hellboy 2 over Hellboy, and I also think Batman Returns is better than Batman 89. So let's not operate under the false pretense that it's the audience's fault for having high expectations for this movie. It wasn't as good as the first. It's really that simple. A good, enjoyable film, but not something that I think will end up being timeless like the original. .
Maybe I was seeing things but did anyone else notice during the credits when they showing the main cast in those circles Jeff Goldlum's Grandmaster showed up. I don't recall seeing him anywhere in the film or post credit scenes. Nobody I can see really operating under a false pretence here. I only stated my opinion man.....and while I'm here? That list is your opinion man.....but for me Begins was better than TDK Spider Man better than Spider man 2 Hellboy better than Hellboy 2 Batman certainly better than Batman Returns. All by LARGE margins......LARGE.

Small SM:HC clip from MTV last night....
I will say one thing, they really got his movements down. Love how he closes the window with his foot.

Okay,
Thoughts:
LOVED Guardians Vol 2.... having it not be bogged down by "MCU" stuff only helped it. Perfect balance of character moments and action. I genuinely LOVED it, and of course... I cried.
I think the Wham Bam Shang a Lang sequence officially takes the cake from Star Trek Beyond for "best space battle set to awesome music".

Just got back from seeing Guardians Vol. 2. Loved it. Not quite as good as the first but that had the "surprise this is a great movie" factor which gave this one high expectations. It dragged just a little in the middle but overall it lived up to expectations. Being a child of the 70s/80s I really love the pop culture references and the music. One surprise cameo in particular had me almost falling out of my seat.

Vol. 2 was fantastic. Marvel hit it out of the park with this one. Everything Drax did made me laugh out loud. The only minor gripe would be TOO many jokes done by not so major characters. But it's all good. I'm going to see it again this weekend and have me some drinks while me and the GF do.

I actually hate comparisons between Alien and Aliens. Alien is a Hitchcockian suspense thriller and Aliens is a balls to the wall action flick. They're both really good for what they are but comparing them is a classic case of comparing apples and oranges IMHO.

While this is the Marvel thread, since it was brought up I'll say I HATE Batman Returns. Like, I consider it the worst theatrical Batman film ever made I hate it. I legitimately prefer Forever, and while Batman and Robin is technically worse, it has the "so bad it's good" thing going for it

I wasn't making that point to split hairs with people over what sequels they like over originals. My point was that on multiple occasions, I've found sequels to be better than very good, even great, first releases in a series. Thus having the expectation for a great sequel and having those expectations met is entirely attainable. So Guardians doesn't get a pass just because the first was excellence. Which was my issue with people who claimed I, or anyone else, shouldn't have expected it to be better than the first.

I saw Guardians 2 yesterday and loved it. Some parts were a little too cheesy but the rest made up for it. Now I really want a classic Guardians 3000 movie. I'd like to see the Infinity Watch in the 3rd too.

BTW - you missed possibly the greatest example of a sequel far surpassing the original: Star Trek II: the Wrath of Khan >>>>>>>>>>>>> Star Trek: the Motion Picture. I mean, the first Star Trek movie was so bad it almost killed the movie franchise before it got started. But enough... getting way off topic now. Guardians 2 was great. Really enjoyed it. Drax was awesome. Dave Bautista is a better wrestler turned actor than the Rock. May see it again in the theaters and will definitely add it to my Marvel blu-ray collection.

The only parts I didn't care for were...
The David Hasselhoff cameo. I understood why Ego did it, but wasn't a fan of it. How would Ego know what The Hoff looks like? How would he know Peter pretended that was his dad?
And Star-Lord turning into PAC-Man. Again, I get it, but it was a bit much for me.
Ego should have looked like Hasselhoff in the picture that Peter carried instead of modern day Hoff. [\spoiler]

Also, I finally listened to Awesome Mix Volume 2 tonight during my workout.. Not nearly as bad as everyone is claiming it to be.. It has a couple songs that under no circumstance am I a fan of.. It's definitely not as rock solid as Volume 1.. But it's still pretty good.. Definitely a solid mix.
Glad I listened to it before my second viewing this week.

I'm all about "Southern Nights" while Rocket was scurrying around on all fours doing his business with the Ravagers. What a joyous scene. Same with the silliness during the warp jumps!

After going over everything, I have GV2 sitting at #11 on MCU list.
