Is it me or does anyone else feel like Orton is in a rut? I've never been a fan of him since evolution, the legend killer gimmick was awesome, the feud with Beniot then Triple H, great. Then I just couldnt get into his shtick. But lately I just dont see why they're paying him to be around, his re-hashed Sheamus feud was... tiresome... and his RKO sequence is beyond predictable. Lead up "hey look im a man-snake" / reversal / within the next 3 moves RKO outta no where. Orton's whole gimmick is based around a meme, plus he seems to have taken ownership of Cena's 5 moves of doom - Mid rope DDT Knee drop Powerslam Stomps RKO and sleepers .... and the thought of him being the 3rd member of Ambrose and Reigns triage sucks. Here's to hoping that the Wyatts taking him out was a way of writing him off screen for a while, as I read he's only part time now? can anyone confirm?

When he is motivated and has a purpose he is one of the best in the world but he just seems to be coasting along in auto pilot these days

For me Orton was only good in: -2004 -2005 -2006 -2009
Since 2009, Orton has been pretty stale and boring for me.

Never been a fan, but he can deliver great matches when he can be bothered.

Orton doesn't really care anymore, I think that's why he seems to be in a rut.
He has a part time schedule. Not as part time as Brock Lesnar, but there will be weeks where Orton won't be on TV. I don't think he will ever be WWE Champion again unless they are in a pinch and they know he can feel that role.
Plus he is like 35 years old now. He's been doing this since he was 21, he is probably just burnt out now too. I wouldn't be too shocked if he leaves soon for a few years like Jericho does every so often.

I like Orton pretty darn well. Which is funny because for years I didn't... Even though he can be bland and he seems content to put on solid matches, but not much else, I think he's one of the best workers and fairly under-appreciated.
It's the little things he does.. his movements are usually very crisp, he knows how to work a crowd (especially at house shows), his facial expressions..
The crowd overall has been pretty into him since becoming a face again; especially in the wake of the WM31 RKO spot.
I don't really blame him for the Shaemus feud.. the writers obviously just threw that together, and the crowd has almost no investment in him--worst choice of MiTB in years.

Yeah Orton is the man, but he has been in a rut for years; but tbh this shouldn't be surprising. Not all wrestlers stay active till they are old husks of themselves, I honestly hope Orton leaves soon. Not because I dont like him, frankly he's been a constant reason why I watch since 2003, but I just dont wanna see him waste away in a company that has nothing for him - plus it frees up a spot for a hungry youngster!

I think he became boring after 2009. His feud with Triple H had so much potential, and Orton was almost made to look like a legit badass, but it fizzled out very quickly. After that... he just plodded along.

He's been one of my favorites since 04 but agree some of his feuds are boring.

I was at RAW in Baltimore, & I was surprised at how much the crowd loved Orton.... because, for the life of me - I can't figure out why.
His best years/moments have always been as a heel... his face act isn't particularly exciting or electric, more slow & methodical.... while he's improved tremendously over the years with his promos, they are still not especially memorable...
I just don't get it.....

I'm not sure if you're new to watching wrestling but pretty much every top babyface -- and many of the lowercard ones too -- has had a "5 moves of doom." Hogan, Hart, Michaels, Austin, Cena, Punk, Bryan, Orton, Reigns, Ambrose etc etc. Even Zack Ryder. It's called a comeback sequence and has been a key part of wrestling for a very long time. They even put them in the videogames now.

I haven't enjoyed Orton since 05. It seems like he had more personality when he was younger. As mentioned, dude has to be burned out though.

In 2006 Orton was 'mah boi" I remember being at a Raw in Memphis that year, a few rows behind the commentary table, when he face King. Most of you know by now that Lawler is THE man in my eyes, needless to say when my current favorite beat my all time favorite, I was torn... However, if you go back to that Raw, if you knew where to find me, you'd see me posing along with Orton as he stands on the turnbuckle celebrating his win.
With that being said, there's something about Randy that cannot hold my attention these days. The last time I was interested in him was when he came back to set up his feud with Rollins.

^^^ This, like a million times over. I've said it for years. When Orton cares about what's going on and fully involves himself in whatever storyline he's got going, there's very, very few people who can even come close to being as good as he is. However, when he doesn't care and becomes unmotivated, it shows in his ring work and promos. Not that he's bad by any means when that happens. Just that he seems more "going through the motions" than "best in the world". Kinda understandable at this point. He's already done everything there is to do in WWE a couple times over. I'd imagine it gets to feel like any other job sometimes, where you just go to work, do what you do, and repeat the next day.

He can have some damn good matches but character wise he hasn't done anything since returning more or less. He'll come around again I'm sure though once he stops feuding with Sheamus.

Orton Vs Wyatt could revitalise him somewhat, same applies to Bray.
The last time Orton appeared to be in this much of a rut, he unexpectedly won MITB and within 2 months he was WWE Champion and "face of WWE", positioned as the top heel in the business for a 8 month long feud that ended at WrestleMania 30.
To quote an old cliche, "Never count him out". He's one of the purests and WWE know they can rely on him when need be.

I've been a fan since the Legend Killer gimmick and when Orton is on, very few are better. The man is a natural, his movements are crisp & smooth......but when unmotivated.....not so much. Overall though, he's a GOAT, IMO.

My thoughts on Randy Orton are he is the most fluid performer the WWE has. IMO, and from the outside looking in, if he had Cena's drive to be the top guy, I think he'd surpass Cena with ease.

I don't mind Orton but to me he's a natural heel. When he's the face, it's as if he just goes through the motions. Also I get bored quick with every feud he's in. It's fun for the first month but then it just becomes repetitive boring crap.

I'm a really big fan of Orton, always have been for the most part. I do think he mails it in at times, understandably so imo, but when he's on he can have an amazing match with anyone (except Cena). He still has the best finisher in WWE imo and it's not even close since Rollins stopped using the curb stomp.
You have to remember he is a prodigy. He was sky rocketed to the moon at 24. He was one of the absolute best acts on the show as the Legend Killer and he hadn't even broken out of his mid 20s at that point. People take Randy Orton for granted and then all of a sudden he'll tear the house down with someone. When a guy has chemistry with Orton they become capable of having some of the best matches of their career, Christian, Ziggler, Cody Rhodes, CM Punk, we've seen it time-after-time.
There just isn't anything left for Orton to do and he knows it, which is why I'm sure he wants the lighter work load. I think it'll help keep him mentally fresh, WWE from using him in worthless scenarios like against Sheamus, and keep the audience intrigued when he does in fact show up. World Titles, Royal Rumbles, MITBS, he's 35 and done pretty much everything WWE has to offer and because he's so dynamic as both a babyface and particularly as a cocky heel, he's completely weathered any kind of rejection from the audience the way that it's happened with Cena. Sure, people don't want to see him face Sheamus or Cena again, ever, but beyond that he makes fresh matchups really work, as evident by his performance/feud with Rollins.
I think Orton gets unnecessary heat from the internet for not turning the basic bullsh*t he has to do on Raw and Smackdown into an instant classic, and plus we've seen that from him thousands of times at this point. He's given us so many unbelievable matches and moments though, against Taker, with Evolution, against HHH, Foley, Benoit, and on-and-on. Guy is a legit legend already and if he was used on more of a Brock Lesnar type of schedule then I think he could actually get more over than we've ever seen before. Just my opinion, and I get the boring comments at times but he's also criminally under rated at times.
