Bret Hart and Kelly Kelly Signing Report (10/20/2024)

Scott Hall and Kevin Nash are in Buffalo, NY for Nickel City Con this weekend.



Also appearing at the con were wrestling guests I didn’t have a need for: Eric Bischoff and Demolition. This particular signing was different considering that it would take me out of Canada, but this time, I had a tag team partner in josecalderon (Ryan). Together we would venture into Buffalo for this convention.

The autograph times for Hall and Nash were slated to be 11:30am-12:30 and 3:00pm-4:45. We get to the venue past noon and check out the autograph line, which had about a dozen people. We were under the impression that we first needed to buy autograph tickets at a booth; however, the people at the booth told us that if we were paying in cash, we could just pay directly at the guest’s table. It was nearing 12:30, so I was afraid that if I were to join the line now, they would leave soon after. They needed to follow this schedule as they were scheduled for a panel. However, with Ryan’s advice, I joined the line (which turned out to be a great decision) while he greeted a friend. There is still about ten more people in front of me, meanwhile two others join the line. The line then gets cut and no more people are allowed in. As I’m waiting in line, thoughts are going through my head: “After I get these signed, where can I put these safely to dry?”. I had 9 figures in total to get signed and Hall and Nash are sitting right next to each other, so I was not looking forward to juggling everything in fear of smudging the autographs. Anyways, when it is my turn to go up to the table, I tell the handler that I preordered 2 autographs for each wrestler but needed 8 more Hall autographs and 7 more Nash autographs. The handler then takes my money but says that he’ll let the two guys after me go first considering that I have so many stuff. Remember, that these two are the last guys to be able to meet the wrestlers before they have to leave. This would help me greatly. The two guys meet Hall and Nash, meanwhile Ryan joins me in line. We explain to the handler that we are together and that Ryan needed a Hall autograph. The handler was cool about letting Ryan getting Hall despite the wrestlers having to leave. I also tell the handler that I have all of my pages marked and everything is ready to go.

Finally, it is now my turn to meet them. Hall is up first. I shake his hand and tell him it is nice to meet him. I take out my items strategically so as to minimize the number of marker switches. The first thing I do is have Hall sign the items I wanted in regular sharpie – my encyclopedia and a magazine.





As he signs, I tell him: “I was supposed to meet you at the Niagara Falls Comic Con, but they cancelled on you guys!”. He says: “yeah, they were unorganized!”. I tell him that we came from Toronto to meet him and he asks my how long the drive was, to which I say it was two hours which isn’t too bad. I then have Hall sign the only item I needed in blue paint: the Flashback elite.



Then, I have him sign the items I needed in white paint: the WM Elite, the Jakks Raw Draft figure, and the Battle Pack with Nash. As he signs the figures, he makes a joke with something along the lines of: “see.. WWE made something for everybody. You’ve got this [the Jakks Raw Draft figure] budget-friendly action figure with an awkward body and no chest hair”. I reply: “and then you have the elite that has all the chest hair!”.



I then have him sign the E51 figure in red. The flash from the camera washes the signature out, but it looks good in person. And lastly, the Defining Moments figure in yellow.



I thank Hall, then start working on Nash who is still conversing with the guy before me. Despite that, he begins signing my stuff, which I was cool with. Having met him a few times before, I didn’t have much to say to him anyway. But first, I was able to shake his hand and tell him that it is nice to see him again, to which he says “you too, buddy”. I first have him sign the items I needed in white paint: The Jakks NWO figure, the HOF elite, and the Battle Pack with Hall pictured above.



Then, I have him sign the Fan Central Basic in red.



Lastly, I have him sign all of his entries in the encyclopedia (including Kliq and NWO pictured above), as well as the magazine pictured above.



At this point, the Hall and Nash were ready to leave for their panels and was just gathering their stuff. Remember when I said that joining the line would be a great decision? Well, since I was last (not including Ryan) I was able to leave all of my stuff of their table to rest and dry for some time. It would have been so hectic to juggle everything had there still been a line. The handler was cool with it, even commenting on my efficiency by saying: “thanks a lot for making it so easy. A lot of people don’t!”. Here’s a picture of the stuff laid out on their table before they are about to leave.




Hall and Nash leave for their panel, while we wait to ensure that my autographs are dry before putting them back in my bag. Once I put them back in the bag, we go to the panel room and listen to the discussion. I don’t remember too much from what they said, but they told random stories:
- Eric Bischoff talked about the fact that Sting was supposed to be the third member of the NWO, rather than Hogan.
- Scott Hall talked about never winning the world title. He said that he didn’t mind that as he was never a mark for himself. He saw the whole locker room as a team and if Sting, for example, would be the top guy, he would be okay with it. Even if he isn’t at the top, if the top guy makes the company successful, then he is still a winner.
- Eric Bischoff talked about currently living in the middle of nowhere. Recently, his dog went outside of the house, but when the dog didn’t come back, he got worried. Turns out the dog was chasing a mountain lion.
- Kevin Nash, I believe, spoke about one of Owen Hart’s ribs. Hart left a bag of baby powder in a hotel room and called the guests staying at that room saying that “he left his cocaine there”. Shortly after, cops arrive at the hotel room, sending the guests in a frenzy to get rid of what they thought was cocaine.
- They also addressed AEW and how WWE superstars are refusing WWE's offers. They talked about how back in the day, how much money one made would never be talked about.



After the panel, we wandered around the vendors looking for any wrestling merch, with no luck. Soon after, it is time for our photo-ops: Ryan was doing a Nash and Hall duo, whereas I just got a photo with Hall. As always with these professional photo-ops, it is a quick hello, take a photo, and leave.



That ends my meet and greet for today! Hall and Nash were really cool to meet.

This was a report I never would have expected to write. The Deadman was at the Niagara Falls Comic Con this afternoon. He was originally supposed to be appearing on the Saturday of the convention, but because of his amazing 5-star instant classic match at Super Showdown with Goldberg, his appearance was moved to Sunday.



Along with The Undertaker, the convention hosted their annual Legends of Wrestling reunion featuring Road Warrior Animal, The Killer Bees, Sgt. Slaughter, and Paul Orndorff. Of those names, I only needed the latter two. In addition to that, an indy promotion from New York, Southern Tier Wrestling, brought the Nasty Boys in as their vendor guests. My game plan was to get to the con early and wait, wait, wait, wait, and get Undertaker out of the way first, and get the rest of my wants after. With the price I paid for Undertaker, I wanted to take no risks and wanted to ensure that I would get a good spot in line. The con was to open at 10am, while ‘Taker was slated to start signing at noon; however, I get at the convention centre at 7:45 in order to get a good spot in line. I was about 15th in line, and just after 9, volunteers started looking for Undertaker ticketholders to be put in a separate line. Undertaker ticketholders were let in early at 9:30 and we were taken to an area in the lobby/hall area of the convention centre, which is where Undertaker will be signing. They had him in a separate section away from all the other celebrities and his table would be curtained such that no one could see his table. The wait continues. Not too long after, a volunteer comes to everyone in line and scans/distribute autograph tickets.

At 12:10, Taker finally comes out and starts signing. Those with the speed pass met ‘Taker first as that pass allows fans to bypass the line. Once that line went through, the general line would go through. Blair , was part of that first line and once he met ‘Taker, he came to me and told me that only their own markers are allowed to be used and you would not be allowed to use your own. It was a choice of regular black sharpie or purple paint marker. Finally, at 12:30, it is my turn. I had a sticky note that had my name on it in order to get personalized, but as expected, the handlers remove it because they are not allowing personalizations. I had ‘Taker sign my DM in the purple paint he had. There was a very limited amount of time you could spend with him so I simply said “an honor to meet you, sir. Thank you for everything you’ve done.”, and he replies: ‘thank you for saying so”, and we shake hands.



After that, I then go over to the Undertaker photo-op line, which is already growing. ‘Taker was slated to do photo-ops at 1, but it seemed like he didn’t start right at 1. It was already almost 2 when I got my photo and there was still a massive line up for photos. (Note that ‘Taker was only supposed to be there from noon to 2pm, so I guess he did some over time). Before you took your photo with him, the volunteers would scream: “you only have seven seconds to do the picture. It will be quick; no conversations, no handshakes”. Anyway, when it is my turn, I go up to him, he asks: “how’s it goin’?”, I say “doing well, sir, yourself?”, he says: “good!”, and the photo gets taken. I then join the line to pick-up the print.. and then join the line to order a digital copy. It was about 2:15 by the time I was done with Undertaker stuff. I then jet over to where Sgt. Slaughter and Paul Orndorff would be signing. Turns out that Sgt. Slaughter was done for the day, so I had missed out on him.

Paul Orndorff, however, was still there and had a line of a few people. When I met Orndorff, it was a simple “hello” and “nice to meet you” greet. He also thanked me for coming. I first had him sign his two entries in the encyclopedia.



Then, I had him sign his Mattel Legends figure, which he smudged with his left hand. He was very apologetic when it came to smudge and tried to fix it. He did his best to fix it and asked: “is that okay?”. I told him that it is perfectly fine and not to worry about it. I ended up cleaning up the smudges myself before writing this report. After he signed the figure, we posed for a photo, which he stood up for. I found him to be a physically delicate man, but he was very friendly.



Lastly, I went over to the Southern Tier Wrestling booth to see the Nasty Boys. Turns out, it would only be one half of the Nasty Boys. I expected this because I didn’t see any fan photos with Jerry Sags. It would only be Brian Knobbs. He asked me about Undertaker and how it was meeting him. He then showed me a picture of himself with ‘Taker from that afternoon. He says that they haven’t seen each other in a long time and got to catch up. I then tell him about meeting him in Hamilton, which he appeared to remember. Lastly, I ask him “how do you like Canada?”, to which he replies that he loves it here. Really nice guy.



Lots of bumps in the road, but hey I got to meet The Undertaker. Surprisingly, meeting The Undertaker wasn’t the most eventful thing to happen this week. I also graduated university. Meeting Undertaker was the icing on the cake. Next week’s report features another Legends of Wrestling convention featuring Bret Hart, Arn Anderson, Tully Blanchard, among others, so look out for that one!

Awesome. I'd love to meet Undertaker some day. I'm glad he was doing well. I was afraid he might have suffered a neck injury during the match with Goldberg.
